Great interface, very smooth and easy, very fast and easy shipping. The notifications and feedback throughout were lovely. Would definitely consider ordering again from them but I will say I ordered an excellent item that in my eyes I do perceive as being good. Lot of visible marks and wear even from far away, so take the condition with a grain of salt.

My mouse arrived a day early, charged while I did other chores, paired rapidly and automatically with my old iMac, and worked perfectly. I don’t use this iMac often but when I do, I need my Magic Mouse and now I don’t have to change batteries. It looked barely used,

Apple Mouse Not Connecting – iFixit

Before undertaking any of the more time consuming solutions below, here are a few fundamentals to give a go.

  • Verify the mouse is on. If it has been moved recently, the switch on the bottom may have been toggled in transit.
  • Turn your mouse off using the switch on the bottom, wait a few moments and turn it back on again.
  • Restart the device you’re attempting to connect it to. This can clear out any pending tasks that may be preventing the connection.
  • Verify Bluetooth is on. The procedure for this will vary by device, but there will typically be a toggle switch in the device settings.
  • Open your Bluetooth settings. Forget the mouse and pair it again.
  • If you use the mouse with multiple devices, verify it is not connected to a different device in range.

Just because a device turns on, does not mean it has enough surplus power to establish a connection to another device.

  • If you have a first generation Magic Mouse, it is powered by two AA batteries. The battery door will pop out if you push the switch near the bottom of the door panel.
    • The batteries themselves may need replacing. Be sure to verify there is no corrosion or other debris which may be preventing the batteries from making good contact.
    • If corrosion is present, remove the batteries. You may want to use gloves for this to prevent skin irritation.
    • Use a cotton swab and white vinegar, to neutralize the corrosion and scrub the contacts clean. An old toothbrush can also be used for greater abrasive power.
    • Be sure everything is completely dry before installing new batteries.
  • If you have a second generation Magic Mouse, the battery is built in and rechargeable. Plug it into your Mac to give it a charge. This should also pair the device if it is not already connected to the Mac in use.
    • Apple strangely put the charge port on the bottom of the mouse so be aware that it cannot be used while charging takes place.
    • If the mouse has been in use for some time, the battery may need replacing.

The Apple Magic Mouse uses Bluetooth connectivity to avoid needing a USB dongle for wireless connectivity. Bluetooth in the mouse or its paired device may be harboring bunk settings.

  • If you did not already during the First Steps portion of the page, turn off your Bluetooth and then turn it back on again.
  • Forget the mouse in your Bluetooth settings and then pair it again by connecting it with a USB cable.
  • Reset your Bluetooth module. On most versions of macOS, pressing OPTION+SHIFT while selecting the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar will prompt an addition menu including a Debugging option. Within the Debugging menu will be a “reset the Bluetooth Module” option.
  • However, macOS Monterey has done away with this menu. In order to reset Bluetooth in Monterey you have two options.
    • Open the terminal app. Type sudo pkill bluetoothd and press enter. It will prompt for your user password. This does precisely what it sounds like. It kills the Bluetooth process and relaunches it.
    • Force your Mac to reconstruct the Bluetooth properties list. To do this Open Finder. In the menu bar select Go > Go To Folder. In the field that pops up enter /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and then press return. Drag the Bluetooth.plist file into the trash and restart your Mac. It will recreate a clean copy of this file during the reboot.

In addition to Bluetooth settings, the physical components responsible for connectivity could be faulty. This is more unusual, but not unheard of.

  • To isolate which end of the connection is problematic, try to use the mouse with a different device. The easiest way to do this is to connect it to another Mac with a USB cable to establish pairing.
  • Conversely, attempt to pair or connect a different Bluetooth device to the one your Apple Mouse won’t connect to.
  • If the mouse is unable to connect to other devices as well, more than likely the mouse is at fault. If this is the case, consider replacing the mouse. It would need a replacement board to fix the issue, which can be difficult to source.
  • If the device the mouse is paired to is unable to connect to other devices as well, that would require further device specific Bluetooth troubleshooting. Have a look at the list of Guides or pay a visit to the Answers forum for more information on the device in question.

Bluetooth functions in the same radio frequency band as some types of WiFi, older cordless phones, and other Bluetooth devices. Although it is exceptionally good at functioning despite this, other stronger or conflicting signals may be the cause of your woes.

  • Relocate to see if the change in locale makes a difference, especially if you are in close proximity to a microwave. Microwaves are notorious interference makers when in use.
  • If you’re also using peripherals connected via USB, or have lots of nearby power cables, the cables in use could have poor shielding. Disconnect any other hardware to see if your connectivity improves.
  • If you find a device which seems to be interfering, try replacing the cable with one of better quality.
  • As a last resort, using an RF choke on the problematic cable may help reduce the interference.
  • Replace Apple Mouse Batteries

Apple Wireless Magic Mouse

How to Fix Magic Mouse Not Working

Apple’s Magic Mouse is an ergonomic wireless mouse with a sleek profile. While this handy device makes scrolling and browsing websites a pleasure, some notable bugs can affect its smooth operation.

If your mouse is not working properly, look no further. Some of the problems discussed below may occur by accident, but it is not difficult to determine their causes. We will also look at mouse repair on Windows and Mac.

Magic Mouse does not work with Windows

The Magic Mouse is a wireless Bluetooth mouse, powered by batteries. The older model is powered by AA batteries, while the Magic Mouse 2 has a built-in battery that is charged via the Lightning port.

Although some problems may be related to low battery, this is not the main thing. the only possible problem.

Check batteries

Most electronic devices perform worse when the battery is low, and the Magic Mouse is not immune to these problems. A low battery usually results in a poor connection or even mouse lag. This type of delay manifests itself in the form of slow cursor movement or even sudden cursor freezes.

First you can try removing the AA batteries from the old Magic Mouse and inserting new ones. This should help restore optimal mouse performance. Connection problems may disappear.

Although you cannot easily remove the batteries from the Magic Mouse 2, you must connect the Lightning cable to the mouse and wait approximately five minutes. If this does not help, you should investigate other areas to try and fix the problem.

Reset Bluetooth connection

Bluetooth connection errors can sometimes be displayed, but a quick update should help. Here’s what to do.

  1. Locate the Bluetooth icon in the action center on the right side of the screen.
  2. Click on it to show the Bluetooth connection.
  3. Turn off Bluetooth and wait for about a minute.
  4. Turn Bluetooth back on and connect the Magic Mouse.
  5. Check if there are any problems.

If that doesn’t work, consider removing and re-adding the mouse.

Use a different mouse and look for the Bluetooth icon on the taskbar.

Right-click it and select “Show Bluetooth Devices”

  1. Locate the Magic Mouse and remove it.
  2. Pairing the mouse back to the computer.

Sometimes deleting old data is what you need to get your Magic Mouse working again.

Download Drivers

Magic Mouse cannot scroll up or down in Windows until you install the Boot Camp support software. This set of drivers will allow Apple devices to work on your Windows PC. Since the Magic Mouse is designed for Mac computers, this additional software is required.

  1. Download the Boot Camp support software here.
  2. Extract the ZIP file.
  3. Open the file and find “Drivers.”
  4. Go to Apple
  5. Open “AppleWirelessMouse64” and follow the instructions to install the driver.
  6. Restart Windows and check if you can now scroll with the Magic Mouse.

If that doesn’t work, download Brigadier.

  1. Download and install Brigadier.
  2. Type “Command Prompt” in the search bar and run it.
  3. Type “cd Desktop” into the console and execute it.
  4. Type or paste “foreman .exe -m MacBookPro16,3” at the command prompt.
  5. Press Enter and wait for the files to download.
  6. Open the Boot Camp folder and find $WinPEDriver$.
  7. Right click on “AppleWirelesMouse64” and select “Install”
  8. Continue installation process .
  9. Restart your computer.
  10. Check if the Magic Mouse is working.

Drivers required for Magic Mouse do not exist on a Windows PC. After you install any driver, your Magic Mouse should scroll properly.

Turn the mouse off and on again

The Magic Mouse switch is located on the underside. In some cases, disabling and re-enabling will solve the problem. After reconnecting the mouse to the computer, it should work as expected.

Magic Mouse not working on Mac

There are many problems that can occur with Mac Magic Mouse. Some fixes to help get your mouse back to working order are only available on Mac.

Troubleshooting Bluetooth connectivity

On Mac computers, you need to follow other steps to turn Bluetooth on and off again. The same goes for pairing the Magic Mouse after removing it.

Here’s how to reset Bluetooth settings on Mac.

  1. Open the Bluetooth menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Turn off Bluetooth.
  3. Please wait a moment before turning it on again.
  4. Allow Magic Mouse to reconnect to Mac.

If the mouse does not connect, you will have to click it in the “Devices” section of the Bluetooth menu.

You may want to unpair your Magic Mouse if it does not work properly. Here are the steps for Mac.

  1. Open the Apple menu and click System Preferences
  2. Select “Bluetooth”
  3. Remove the Magic Mouse.
  4. Turn off your Magic Mouse, then turn it back on after a while. .
  5. Connect your Magic Mouse to your Mac.
  6. Check if the problems are gone.
  7. Re-pairing the mouse sometimes works, but there are times when it doesn’t work.

    Charge or replace batteries

Same Battery issues can affect Magic Mouse on Mac. Please make sure you have enough power before using it.

    Switch switch

The Magic Mouse switch is at the bottom. Switching back and forth doesn’t always work, but you’d be surprised how often it does.

    Buttons misconfigured

Sometimes the Magic Mouse cannot right-click. Often this happens due to an error when setting it up. You will want to change it back.

    1. Open System Preferences and go to the “Mouse” section.
    2. Go to “Point & Click.”
    3. Make sure Secondary Click is enabled.
    4. Click the drop-down menu and select “Press on the right.”

Make sure you switch to the right button if the selection has somehow moved to the left. Some users find that the secondary click can be inverted.

    Bluetooth module reset

You may need to reset the Bluetooth module manually if the problems persist. . You can easily do this on versions of macOS older than Monterey, but newer Macs will require a different approach.

The old method looks like this:

    1. Hold Shift + Alt.
    2. Touch the Bluetooth icon on the screen.
    3. Press “Reset Bluetooth Module”

Here’s how to do it on newer Macs.

    1. Open the Spotlight search bar.
    2. Search for a terminal.
    3. Start Terminal.
    4. Type and execute ” sudo pkill bluetoothd” without extra characters or letters.
    5. Enter a password if required.
    6. Check if the Magic Mouse reconnects after module reset.
    7. Test the Magic Mouse.

Like all devices, the Magic Mouse will fail sooner or later. If other Bluetooth mice work with your device, it’s probably time to find a replacement for the Magic Mouse.

    Works like magic

Magic Mouse isn’t known for being the most durable mouse available, but is still fantastic piece of hardware for the price. There are many ways to fix connectivity issues or not being able to scroll with it.
