Vizio M-Series 2017

Last year’s P-Series TVs from Vizio were distinguished by high picture quality and a relatively low price compared to other manufacturers. In addition, the mid-range Vizio M-Series has become even more affordable. At the same time, the picture quality is still on top.

There are changes in 2017. Interestingly, the 2017 P-Series is largely unchanged. At the same time, the reviewed M-Series has become the owner of the “XLED” technology, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of buyers. Consider the Vizio M55-E0 TV as a representative of the new 2017 M-series.

Vizio M-Series 2017

All 2017 Vizio M-Series models range from $800 for the 50-inch M55-E0 to $3,000 for the 75-inch. TVs are equipped with 32-zone screen dimming technology. This results in deeper blacks, a wider color gamut, and higher peak brightness at 600 nits. Previously, this was only available in the Vizio P-series.

As we know, the higher the peak brightness and the wider the color gamut, the better the reproduction of dynamic scenes. We can observe this in the Vizio M55-E0. The performance in the M-Series makes it possible to equip the line of TVs with HDR support. Almost all TVs in 2017 are striving to acquire HDR playback in specifications. The manufacturer took this requirement into account in 2107.

Excellent Black Levels

Vizio delivered better black levels in the M Series than the Samsung Q7F QLED. The test was with 65 diagonal TVs. This figure is due to local dimming technology, but note that Samsung has Edge-Lit backlighting, which distorts the black parts of the image with light gray stripes in some dynamic scenes.

Thus, it can be noted that Vizio and Samsung Q7 are on the same level in terms of image quality (Vizio M-Series is not inferior to Samsung). Let’s take into account that the price of 65 diagonal M-Series is $1500, and Samsung with the same diagonal will cost you $4000.

If you’re looking for a new TV that balances price and picture quality, then the updated Vizio M55-E0 is a better choice. Of course, the P-Series will have a different price, but we will not consider it now. Advanced users will most likely pay extra money for the P-Series, but this is their own business.

A few words about the E-series. This year, the line received support for HDR10. We talked about this in the Vizio E75-E3 review. This series has fewer local dimming zones than the M and P series, but picture quality doesn’t suffer as much as Samsung’s entry-level TVs.

XLED technology

Although Vizio is trying to emphasize its “XLED” screen technology this year, it’s a rather weak trump card. In principle, this is just a variant of providing the well-known technology of 2016, which was updated only with the help of software. There are no changes in the hardware as such.

This means that if you purchased a model in 2016, it will receive updates (Vizio TV firmware) that improve picture quality. But this can confuse the average consumer. They might think that “XLED” means a major upgrade, but that’s not the case. Although Samsung is actively promoting “QLED” technology, which makes at least some changes to Quantum Dot technology, Vizio has limited itself to software updates.

Android tablet

Vizio P- and M-series TVs still use the supplied Android tablet instead of the standard remote control to control. However, more users claim that they practically do not use a tablet, but use their own smartphones.

Google Cast

It is expected that in the summer it will be possible to download the new Vizio TV firmware and update it yourself. This will also affect the remote control. The upgrade will allow the user to receive streaming streaming directly to the TV, instead of a separate external unit. This is most likely a philosophy, but the manufacturer claims that it will be easier to use the TV this way.

Built-in applications are similar to last year. The manufacturer did not increase their number so as not to clog the start screen. In general, Vizio M55-E0 has an optimal set of applications. In theory, the smart TV platform hasn’t changed, and you can read about it in last year’s Vizio reviews.

M-Series 2017 prices and
models The next 55-screen model reviewed in our M55-E0 review is priced at $1,000. For large screens, options are available: M65-E0 for $1500, M70-E3 for $2000 and the largest diagonal M75-E1 will go for $3000.

Summary

It’s time to sum up the reviewed M55-E0 model from Vizio. It is worth mentioning here that all Vizio M series 2017 models have built-in compatibility with ChromeCast, Google Home. The entire series are 4K TVs with a refresh rate of 120Hz, as opposed to last year’s models, where 120Hz was used for screen sizes from 60 inches in the M-Series 2016.

Vizio M-Series’ new 4K HDR “XLED” labeling, which may attract buyers, is nothing more than a publicity stunt. Naturally, Vizio recommends purchasing an additional soundbar, which sounds much different from the built-in speakers. In conclusion, I would like to note that last year’s announcement of the purchase of Vizio by LeEco is not taken place. The manufacturer will not slow down the development of innovations in its new models.

Explanation of Vizio TV model numbers, 2013-2022

You should know that Vizio TVs are not made by Vizio, and yes, they are. Vizio TVs are made by electronics OEMs. These companies develop TV models, negotiate a price, and then release TVs under the VIZIO brand. Production of TVs to order for companies owning a certain brand is a fairly common practice today. According to the Chinese site https://themoney.co/, VIZIO TVs are manufactured by OEMs BOE, Foxconn, Innolux, KIE, Tolly, TPV, Zylux.

VIZIO Serial Number Search

The first way to find your VIZIO TV Serial Number

If you need to know your VIZIO TV model number or serial number. The easiest solution is to look at the model number on the sticker on the back of the TV. There you will see a sticker with information about the TV.

Depending on the year of manufacture of the TV and the factory in which it was produced. The location of the information sticker may vary, you will have to inspect the entire back of the TV, some models may have two information stickers. The first is a fuller, larger sticker, the second is in the form of a barcode with the model number and serial number on the side of the rear panel, closer to the edge. Of course, if your TV is wall-mounted and access to the back is difficult, there is another solution.

VIZIO serial number search

The second way to find the serial number of your VIZIO

TV VISIO. You can find your TV’s model number in the menu. To do this with a few keystrokes on the remote control, follow these steps. Depending on the version of your operating system, the procedure may differ, I will show you several options, if your TV has a slightly different menu, the search will still look something like this

  • Press menu button on the remote control
  • select Admin&Privacy , press OK on the remote control.
  • Select System Information press OK

You will see information about your TV with model number at the top.

  • Press the Menu button on the VIZIO remote control.
  • Highlight and select Help or System
  • Select System Information and press OK.
  • Your serial number is located next to “ TV SN “.

The third way to find the serial number of the VIZIO TV

The third way is a bit specific, but I will remind you of it anyway. You can find the model number and serial number of your VIZIO TV in the following ways.

  • Check the purchase documents if you still have them
  • Look at the sticker on the box if you haven’t thrown it away.
  • If you bought your TV online, try to remember where you bought it and check your TV’s purchase history.

In any case, at least one of these three ways will be useful to you.

Because TVs are manufactured by OEMs, VIZIO TV model numbers do not provide much information about TV specifications. The model number is only needed to obtain information about the screen size, TV series and year of development. More detailed specifications can be found in the description of a specific TV. However, some information can also be obtained from the model number of the TV. VIZIO TVs are divided into series, for example, M, P, D series. Depending on the series, the technical characteristics of TVs differ significantly. But you should know that VIZIO TVs are mainly in the budget segment.

In 2018, there are some changes to the TV model number, the model number is slightly larger, although this did not add information about the TV.

The Vizio TV model number using the M55-C2 as an example explains

  • M – the first letter indicates the series of the TV. Vizio divides its TVs into series, which are identified by letters or by the full name, such as OLED or Quantum. You should be aware that the series may be available for several years, for example, the M series has been available since 2013. But 2013 TVs are very different from 2022 TVs. This should be kept in mind when choosing a TV.
  • 55 — TV screen size in inches.

TV Models VIZIO

After the screen size, the model number may have several more characters, they indicate the model number of the TV in the series. No need to look for a pattern, perhaps these TVs are simply made by different companies.

Vizio TV Models by Year

  • C — TV Year
    • K — 2022
    • J – 2021
    • H 2020
    • G – 2019
    • F – 2018
    • E – 2017
    • D – 2016
    • C – 2015
    • B – 2014 9039 6
    • A – 2013
  • 2 – The design of the TV stand usually differs in shape, the larger the TV, the more massive the stand is needed for it.

Vizio TV Overview

VIZIO TVs are sold in the North American market in the USA, Canada. Vizio does not have its own factories, TVs are assembled by electronics assemblers to order. Televisions are assembled in Mexico and China, but it is not known at the factories of which companies, there is no reliable information, the company is modestly silent about this. Vizio has taken the path of aggressive pricing, TVs where the declared parameters are similar to TVs from leading manufacturers are 10-30% cheaper.

Because users in the US and Canada pay little attention to specifications. The main thing that the buyer pays attention to is image quality, price, access to network resources such as Netflix and the like. VIZIO capitalized on this by building a business model focused on the North American market. Employees of the company work in two directions: sales, design and service. The company is trying to keep up with technology from other manufacturers, and it seems to be succeeding, although the picture quality is somewhat worse than that of the leading manufacturers, but TVs are popular with buyers.

How to find out the build year of a Vizio TV

How to find out when a Vizio TV was manufactured. Unfortunately, it’s almost impossible to find out. The manufacturer does not provide this information. Indirectly, the date of production can be found in the marking of the model. But you should also take into account the following information. For aggressive sales, Vizio starts production of TVs in Q3 and assigns them next year’s model numbers, which was the case until 2018. Now new TV models are released every year. In any case, if you see that the TV model is, for example, 2021, then you can navigate, this TV model was produced from Q3 2021 to Q3 2022.

For example, TV with model number M55-C2. The letter C means that this is a 2015 model, TVs of this model were assembled between Q3 2015 and Q3 2016.

2021

In 2021, VIZIO did not introduce a single model from its premium TV lineup. All TVs are equipped with displays with a maximum frequency of 60 Hz, which, of course, is not enough if you use the TV as a monitor for game consoles. I think that sales of premium models in previous years did not live up to expectations. Therefore, the company’s management decided to produce more budget TV models.

2020

In 2020, there was an experiment from VIZIO – OLED TVs with screens from LG. But this was also a single experiment, there are no more new models of OLED TVs in the VIZIO line.

2019

In 2018, the P-Series Quantum TVs were expanded with quantum dot screens. For other characteristics, TVs are similar to TVs in 2017. In subsequent years, these televisions were no longer produced.

VIZIO TVs 2017-2019

D – series:

The resolution of Ultra HD TVs of the D series is 3840 × 2160, there are models with Full HD resolution, the screen is made using IPS technology, the maximum possible frame rate is 120 per second , there is internet access. But the TVs in this series use the previous access platform SMART TV V.I.A. Plus®.

E – series:

E series TVs have a resolution of Ultra HD 3840 × 2160, the screen is made using VA technology, the maximum possible frame rate is 120 per second, there is Internet access. TVs in this series use the SmartCast platform. There is also support for HDR.

M Series:

This series upgrades TVs with Ultra Color Spectrum, XHDR Plus™ at 120 frames per second.

P – Series:

The P series TVs are equipped with an optional GPU and the maximum possible frame rate is 120 per second. The number of HDMI ports has been increased to 5.

Old model numbers of VIZIO TVs

I do not delete old photos with explanations of the VIZIO TV model number. If you are interested in model numbers of older VIZIO TVs that are not covered in this article. You can ask a question in the comments, I will definitely try to answer and help you.
