What to look for when buying a touchscreen laptop

    2-in-1 laptops

900 02 Most consumers who are looking for a laptop with touch screen, we highly recommend choosing the 2-in-1 model. 2-in-1 laptops are essentially devices that can switch between regular laptop form factor and tablet form factor thanks to a flexible hinge that flexes.

Considering that most people looking for a touch screen laptop will be either creative people or office workers on the road, the 2-in-1 design makes it easier for them to manipulate images and data on the screen, draw on the screen as if you were drawing on a tablet., and also provides a clearer display for presentations and sharing ideas with colleagues. You don’t lose the added functionality and power of a laptop over a tablet, but you get all the portability and flexibility benefits of the latter.

    Touchscreen Gaming Laptops

For those who are new to gaming laptops, it usually doesn’t just apply to laptops that can play any game. Tablets and mobile devices are capable of playing mobile games, which are very undemanding programs, and often tend to use touchscreen controls, as you would expect from these platforms: all devices listed here will be more than capable of playing such games.

When we talk about suitable touchscreen gaming laptops, we mean those that can play PC and console games at a decent level. Aside from one or two games that might use it as a gimmick, the touchscreen doesn’t yet offer many extras for PC gaming; you should only buy it if you intend to use your machine for creative/workflow purposes where such a feature would be beneficial.

Such consumers should be aware that sufficiently powerful laptops with touchscreens with refresh rates above 60Hz are rare, and we generally do not recommend gaming on a screen with such a low refresh rate. To learn more, read our page on what to look for in a gaming laptop page.

    Best Touchscreen Laptop in 2022

    1. 2-in-1 Premium Choice

    HP Specter x360 14

    CPU – Intel Core i5-1 135G7 / i7-1165G7

Video Card – Intel Iris Xe

    RAM – 8GB/16GB

    Maximum Refresh Rate – 60Hz

    Resolution – 1920×1280 / 3000×2000

    Screen Size – 13. 5″

    PLUS

    • excellent color reproduction
    • OLED variant
    • good peak brightness
    • unique 3:2 aspect ratio
    • excellent keyboard and trackpad
    • stylus included
    • good coverage ports
    • fingerprint scanner
    • excellent build quality and aesthetics

    CONS

    • expensive
    • webcam could be better

HP Specter x360 14 is a 2-in-1 touchscreen laptop with the best design we’ve ever seen, with excellent overall build quality and great aesthetics. Made almost entirely of aluminum, the screen does not flex or flex on the machine body, the hinge feels very strong and durable. The scissor switch keyboard with 1.5mm of travel and a nice tactile feel with good key size and spacing is a pleasure to use. The included fingerprint reader on the keyboard provides an extra layer of security. The touchpad is also at a good level.

The port coverage of the HP Specter x360 14 is also good despite its thin design: two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 and DisplayPort 1. 4 support, a USB-A port and a microSD card reader in addition to the usual headphone/microphone. connector. A good choice for any content creator needs. The included stylus is of decent quality, has two programmable buttons, and charges via USB-C.

The 720p webcam isn’t particularly good quality, but it’s up to par with the competition and has the advantage of supporting InfraRed facial recognition technology for Windows Hello and the like. The speakers were definitely above average, although not as good as the MacBook Air, they had decent bass reproduction and good sound quality overall.

One of the biggest selling points of the HP Specter is the display, and you get a few different options for that depending on your budget, which is always nice. There’s a standard 1920×1280 IPS version, and then a 3000×2000 OLED version for a few hundred dollars more. The IPS screen has a decent contrast ratio, a peak brightness of around 365 nits, and coverage of at least 100% sRGB and 75% DCI-P3; making it suitable for accurate color reproduction, at least in the sRGB space. The 3K2K OLED version has excellent contrast ratio, a decent peak brightness of around 340 nits, and an excellent color gamut covering over 100% sRGB and an incredible 140% DCI-P3, making it ideal for any color-accurate workflow.

While the 14 in the title indicates a 14-inch laptop, the actual diagonal screen size of the HP Specter x360 is 13.5 inches (technically the same when rounded up, but still a bit tricky from HP). A 16-inch OLED version is also available for a significantly higher price, which also comes with a dedicated Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics card, making it a capable machine if you want to play moderately demanding games at medium settings. However, for most people looking for a touchscreen laptop, the portability and ergonomics of the HP Specter x360 14 make it the best choice.

In terms of main components, we would choose higher spec Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD if possible. Intel Iris Xe graphics are standard on everyone and handle most non-gaming tasks.

Viable alternatives to the HP Specter x360 14 for premium 2-in-1 touchscreen laptops are the Samsung Galaxy Pro 360 and the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 version, but we think the Specter is ahead of them. Compared to the Galaxy Pro 360, it has better build quality and more room for major component upgrades, although the Galaxy’s touchpad is larger. Compared to the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, it has better port coverage, better colors, and a slightly better keyboard. Ultimately, any of these three machines is a great choice for a high-end 2-in-1 machine.

    2. Premium Folder Laptop Choice

    Dell XPS 13 (13″ OLED)

    • CPU – Intel Core i7-1185G7
    • Graphics – Intel Iris Xe
    • RAM – 16 GB or more
    • Storage – 512 GB SSD or more
    • Screen size – 13.4″
    • Maximum refresh rate – 60 Hz

    PLUS

9001 3 excellent color reproduction sRGB
    • excellent contrast and peak brightness
    • quiet operation
    • impressively thin
    • amazing build quality
    • good keyboard and trackpad
    • fast microSD reader

    9000 3 CONS

    • speakers can not be compared with MacBook
    • battery life could would be better for 4K version
    • quite expensive

The Dell XPS 13 is the top contender for the best high-end ultraportable Apple MacBook Air. Like most of the options on this list, it’s not meant for a gaming machine, but for general use and a premium lightweight workstation for office workers, writers, and creatives who don’t need a lot of rendering power in their workflows. There are many different options for the Dell XPS 13 specification, including both touch and non-touch screens, as well as a resolution of 1920×1200 (i.e. 1200p) or 3840×2400 (i.e. 4K), which allows you to adapt the machine to your needs. All options come with integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics, but processors range from Intel Core i5-1135G7 to Core i7-1185G7, and we recommend choosing one of the more powerful ones.

Whichever option you choose, the 16:10 display gives you a bit of extra space on a small screen. The bezels are also pleasingly thin, maximizing the screen real estate you have. Contrast and brightness on this computer are great, whichever display option you choose, and you get an excellent color gamut in sRGB space: in particular, you get 100% sRGB, 80% Adobe RGB, and 80% DCI-P3 coverage in the 4K variant with 1200p performs similarly in sRGB, but lower in the other two color gamuts.

The build quality of this machine is top notch and it’s really impressive how sturdy the Dell XPS 13 feels despite being so thin. The membrane keyboard is a pleasure to type on, even if it doesn’t quite match the HP Specter x360 with its excellent travel distance, and the trackpad is also nicely responsive and accurate. Fan noise is also kept to a minimum, making this laptop ideal for working on public transport or in a quiet study area. The microSD card reader it comes with is another useful feature, especially one that works as quickly and efficiently as this one. Unfortunately, perhaps the biggest disappointment with the XPS 13 is the speakers: they are by far better than regular gaming laptops and can get quite loud.

In a similar vein, while the 1200p version of the XPS 13 has an excellent battery life of around 15 hours with light use, the 4K variant isn’t as good, approaching 7 hours. It’s not scary, but a few hours less than we would like. The 1080p webcam is equipped with InfraRed technology, but it’s just adequate in terms of quality, along with the built-in microphone.

Other than those points, the only real downside to this touchscreen laptop is the price, which isn’t that terrible for a 4K display compared to the other options here, but given the machine’s small size and its relatively underpowered CPU and GPU, it might be a little cool for some. Again, compared to the MacBook, this doesn’t seem unreasonable.

    3. Mid Range 2-In-1

    Samsung Galaxy Book Flex2 Alpha

    • CPU – Intel Core i5-1135G7/i7-1165G7
    • Video Card – Intel Iris Xe
    • RAM – 8/16 GB

    • Resolution – 1920×1080
    • Screen Size – 15.6″

      9 0013 QLED screen
    • excellent color reproduction
    • good contrast
    • great peak brightness
    • good battery life
    • great discount price

    CONS

    • S Pen not included
    • webcam could be better
    • SSD limited to 512 GB
    • no Thunderbolt

The aforementioned Galaxy Book Pro 360 is the high-end king of Samsung’s touchscreen laptop lineup, but for most people, the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex2 Alpha makes more sense. Instead of an AMOLED display, the Flex 2 Alpha comes with a QLED display that doesn’t have the same contrast and black depth as the more expensive alternatives in the Galaxy Book line (although they’re still good), but actually has excellent peak brightness: in standard in the configuration, it is already a good 430 nits, but reaches 600 nits when you turn on the Outdoor + mode. This makes it the best option for use in brightly lit environments, especially outdoors.

Color reproduction on the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex2 Alpha is also excellent: you get around 100% sRGB and 95%+ Adobe RGB and DCI-P3, which means you can use it for accurate color reproduction in all those color spaces: what makes it An excellent choice for graphic designers, photo editors or color correctors.

The build quality of the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex2 Alpha is excellent, as with other Galaxy Book laptops, with a 2-in-1 hinge that feels solid. The touchscreen is accurate and responsive, and the keyboard is tactile with decent travel times. We wish the S-Pen was included with the Flex2 Alpha, as it is with the Galaxy Book Pro models, so it’s a little disappointing, but they can easily be purchased separately. However, the battery life is long: about 9Hours of normal use (web browsing, YouTube, etc.) at medium brightness settings with Outdoor + disabled: Impressive considering the power consumption of a QLED display.

A final reason to consider the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex2 Alpha is that, compared to the Galaxy Book Pro 360, they can often be found at fairly substantial discounts, either on the Samsung website itself or at retailers such as Best Buy . If you can find one at a discount, they offer excellent value for money, especially given the quality of the display, but even at full price, the Samsung Galaxy Book Flex2 Alpha is a great mid-range choice.

    4. Budget Choice

    HP Envy 13

    • CPU – Intel Core i5-1135G7
    • Video Card – Intel Iris Xe
    • RAM – 8 GB/16 GB
    • Maximum refresh rate – 60 Hz
    • — 1920×1080
    • Screen diagonal — 13. 3 inches

    PLUS

    • excellent color reproduction for the price
    • decent peak brightness and contrast 9 0014
    • light and portable
    • good number of ports
    • good battery life
    • also good overall build quality for a budget laptop
    • Fingerprint scanner

    CONS

      90 013 plastic touchpad

The HP Envy 13 is our budget choice, but in fact, it’s not far behind some of the premium options. Although the 2021 version of the HP Envy comes with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor rather than the later i7 variants of the other machines on this page, it still performs quite well and performance is not far behind those more expensive laptops. Integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics same as HP Specter and Dell XPS 13.

The HP Envy 13’s color gamut covers over 100% of the sRGB range and about 80% of DCI-P3, which is about as good as a MacBook Air. Peak brightness tops out at around 360 nits, which is pretty decent, and the contrast ratio on this IPS panel is also pretty good, although it obviously doesn’t compete with the more expensive OLED and QLED options.

The HP Envy 13 keyboard is a respectable size despite being a small laptop, with decent key spacing and minimal key reduction. The keys have decent travel and feel quite responsive – overall a good standard keyboard, especially for the price.

Unfortunately, the trackpad is a bit lacking for comparison, being made of plastic rather than glass. It’s not entirely bad, feeling responsive and supporting Precision drivers and Windows 10 gestures, but it’s the part of the laptop that feels the cheapest. Thankfully, all other parts of the machine seem to be solidly built to a quality standard that is definitely above average for this price range.

The speakers on a laptop are somewhere between average and good depending on what you play through them – they are not inferior to the MacBook counterparts in terms of bass reproduction, but in certain scenarios they work decently. Battery life is about 10 hours or more in non-stressful web browsing scenarios, which is very competitive with the rest of the market.

Overall, this is a great touchscreen laptop.
