Show seasonal allergies who’s boss
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, now is when they are at their worst. Stock up on allergy season’s most important products to keep your home, classroom, and office allergen-free. Start with an air purifier to strip the air of allergens like pollen and pet dander and replace existing air filters for improved air quality. Frequently dust, wipe down hard surfaces, and vacuum carpets and furniture to help eliminate pollen tracked in from outside and dander left behind by pets. When leaving the house, check the pollen count and bring a face mask to help filter the air you breath outside.
No matter what you do, it’s unlikely that the symptoms of seasonal allergies can be avoided entirely. Make sure to have over-the-counter cold and allergy medications on hand to battle symptoms, and stock up on facial tissues so you’ll always have one available when you need them.
Spring (Cleaning) is in the air
Spring cleaning and decluttering is a tradition meant to refresh our spaces for the year ahead. Staples has everything you need to clear out the clutter, store and organize your belongings, and all the right cleaning supplies.
Clear out the clutter
Start by preparing a checklist and make sure you have all the necessary supplies. Use storage bins and a label maker to make sorting and organizing easier. Prepare extra boxes for donations and trash bags for the things you no longer need. Look for decorative boxes & baskets that will compliment your home’s décor and use them to organize. You can also use closet organizers and storage drawers anywhere they are needed.
Start with the basics
An all-purpose cleaner, cleaning brush and microfiber cloths will clean most surfaces. Use a duster to remove unwanted dirt and furniture polish to revitalize wood surfaces. Upgrade your broom, dustpan, wet mop, and vacuum to make cleaning any type of flooring a breeze.
The nitty gritty
Spring cleaning doesn’t stop there. There’s so much you can do to reset your home:
- Improve air quality and eliminate pollen and pet dander with a new air purifier and an air freshener with a scent you love.
- On a sunny day, take the opportunity to clean your windows – you’ll need glass cleaner, a bucket, a squeegee, and paper towels.
- Have a step stool or ladder on hand to access hard-to-reach places like the tops of cabinets and overhead lighting.
- Replace broken light bulbs and check the batteries in your smoke detectors.
- Use drain cleaner to clear up sink and bathtub drains.

Conclusions
When choosing a modern computer speaker system, you need to pay attention to the following points:
- the frequency range of the front speakers, the total power and the availability of additional interfaces are key indicators that require increased attention from the buyer;
- the materials used should also be taken into account – it is better if the acoustic equipment is made of wood, but elements made of strong plastic are also allowed;
- it is worth taking a closer look at the number of front speaker bands and the ease of control of the device.

How to choose speakers for your computer: getting into the details

A banal question: which speakers for a computer are better to buy? Here are some important features to look out for.
Strictly speaking, if you have a laptop, you can connect any wireless speaker via Bluetooth. The same can be done with a PC (you just need to buy a module), but we’ll leave battery solutions for entertainment. And for the computer we will select a full-fledged multimedia acoustics. That’s just what? Let’s take it in order.
Wired or Bluetooth?
Computer speakers can also be connected wirelessly. And, as a rule, it is duplicated by wires. Moreover, there are models with an SD card slot – this allows you to record music on the card and turn it on without turning on the computer. For example, such a function is available in the following Defender model:
Regardless of the type of connection, acoustics is a component set of two or more speakers and a power amplifier, which can be built into the case of one of the speakers or separate. Depending on the number of components in the system, multimedia speakers are divided into ten types, which are indicated by numbers, for example, 1. 0 or 5.1 .
- The first digit indicates the number of columns in the system. There are two in system 2.1.
- The second digit indicates the presence or absence of a subwoofer – a special speaker for reproducing low frequencies. Again, there is a subwoofer in the 2.1 system – the music on such speakers will be with deep, rich bass.
Which speakers are specifically designed for the computer? As a rule, multimedia speakers of types 1.0, 2.0, 2.1, 3.1 and 5.1 are sold in computer stores. Let’s talk in more detail about each of them.
- 1.0: Monocolumn
- 2.0: stereo speakers
- 2.1: stereo speakers + subwoofer
- 3.1: fronts, center + subwoofer
- 5.1: Dolby Digital
- Additional options
Format 1.0: monocolumn
Speakers of type 1.0 with a computer, as a rule, are not used. The sound in such a column goes through one channel to one small speaker – like in portable ones. But, unlike them, it is not designed to be carried.
Portable speakers connect to a smartphone, laptop or player via Bluetooth, and a 1.0 computer speaker via a 3.5 line-out. And it is powered by the mains, and not by a battery – thus, it makes no sense to carry it somewhere.
On the other hand, 1.0 speakers can play up to 10 watts of sound – much louder than portable ones, but cost about the same. For example, such a speaker Logitech costs like a good portable mono speaker JBL Go but louder.

Accessories
JBL Xtreme 3 portable speaker review: the rest rest
Format 2.0: stereo speakers
Well, this, on the contrary, is the most popular format for computer speakers. Two speakers are connected by a wire (called a strip) to reproduce stereo sound. One of the speakers has a built-in amplifier. The entire system is powered either from the mains or from USB, and connects to a PC either using a 3.5 mm line-in input, or (attention) using an analog RCA connector, which is more common in DVD players, stereos and TVs than on PC sound cards – pay attention to this when choosing!
In the case of a pair of speakers, it is no longer just about power, but about the total power. The two speakers together can play up to 60 watts of sound. There are two niches on the market in this regard:
- single-way speakers with one pair of speakers and a total power of 5-10 W – a kind of analogue of portable stereo speakers like JBL Flip. For example, here is a model from SVEN :
Format 2.1: stereo speakers + subwoofer
If you often listen to music or you want the sound of your virtual shotgun to sound as realistic as possible, take speakers of this type – that is, models with a subwoofer.
Like 2.0 speakers, 2.1 systems are characterized by a total power output (from 25 to 65 W), which includes the combined power of two speakers and a subwoofer. The speakers can be single-way or two-way, and the power of the subwoofer determines how much the sound will “rock the dance floor” – if this is important to you, choose a kit with a more powerful subwoofer.
2.1 systems are mains powered only and can have either 3.5mm or RCA audio output. Whenever possible, we generally select models with a 3.5 mm jack, so as an example of a great 2. 1 audio system, let’s take this 45-watt Defender as an example, which looks cool and sounds good:
3.1 format: front, center + subwoofer
More precisely, two front, one center and a subwoofer. These speakers not only allow you to play only music in stereo, but also create directional surround sound when you are at your PC, so they are highly recommended for gamers. Specifically, the two front speakers are usually mounted on the sides of the PC, the subwoofer is at the bottom, and the center speaker is at the top, so if you get blown up by a grenade in a game, you will not only hear it, but also feel it in some way.
The system is powered by the mains. The total power of speakers 3.1 can be from 30 watts. From the 3.1 speakers begins the reign of the analog RCA connector, which is not supported by standard sound cards. We found only one 3.1 model from CROWN (very good, by the way) that connects to a PC via a 3.5 mm jack:
RCA – at least like this.

5.1 Format: Dolby Digital
This type of speaker is entirely designed for gamers with cool soundtracks and sound effects. The audio system includes two front and two center speakers, as well as a subwoofer. Thus, it provides playback including five-channel surround sound in Dolby Digital and DTS formats. These speakers often come with a physical Dolby Digital or DTS-II decoder.
5.1 speakers allow you to turn your computer into a good home theater – only for this, of course, you need to connect them to it. It is extremely rare to find a 3.5 mm output here, much more often – an analog RCA output, a digital optical or coaxial output. Outputs vary in cable type and connector shape. The advantages of one type or another are almost imperceptible to a non-specialist, so there is no point in dwelling on them. You just need to buy the appropriate adapter for the sound card.
There are budget options in the 5.1 world, but they can’t compete with true home theater systems. For games, this one will be quite enough:
There are also cooler layout options: 6:1 and 7:1. But to feel the difference with 5.1 will not be easy.
Additional Options
What else might influence your choice of which speakers to buy for your computer?
- Microphone input . Many PC speakers have a microphone input, so if you’re into singing or karaoke, choose a model with one or two inputs.
- USB or battery powered . Small computer speakers may not require an electrical connection, but be powered by your laptop, power bank or batteries. If mobility is important to you, pay attention to it.
-
Magnetic shielding . Don’t overpay for this feature! It has not been relevant for a long time. In short, shielded speakers do not distort the image on old TVs and CRT monitors with their electromagnetic field.
