Kicker builds the Solo-Baric L7 component subwoofer to deliver state-of-the-art bass. An ultra-rigid cast aluminum basket houses the patented SoloKon™ one-piece square cone to create a speaker that moves lots more air than a comparably sized round sub. The precision-built motor structure won’t yield to stress, giving you chest-thumping low end that won’t quit when you push your system hard.

Built tough

The Solo-Baric L7 Series 11S12L74 12″ subwoofer features an injection-molded polypropylene cone that works with a tough Santoprene™ rubber surround to dish out monster bass in a sealed or ported enclosure. Its unusual shape and black finish make a strong style statement, and you can add an optional grille to further enhances its looks. This sub packs dual high-temperature 4-ohm voice coils, giving you the flexibility to build a multiple sub setup or to draw more power from your amp with a low-impedance load.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer
has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer
presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents
an 8 ohm load.

Square Design: By making the Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving
you the most possible cone area (Sd) for a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area
than a conventional round subwoofer. More cone area means the Solo-Baric L7 moves
more air, resulting in louder, deeper bass.

Cone Material: The square SoloKon design is a unique one-piece
construction, using polypropylene material that moves as a lightweight piston, for
improved control. The cone remains rigid, minimizing cone flex and distortion. A
rear cone brace integrates into the cone with a continuous contact perimeter weld,
which improves strength and resistance to deformation under pressure.

Surround: The tough, flexible Santoprene rubber surround has
a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is
highly tear-resistant. The corners of the surround are ribbed to ensure linear
cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation
between them virtually impossible, even in the harshest conditions.

Spider: The woofer is equipped with a wide poly-cotton spider
which easily handles high cone excursions due to its increased diameter and unique
shape.

Enhanced BAM (Basket And Motor) Assembly: The Solo-Baric L7
utilizes a high strength stamped steel basket which features a low-profile open
design and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly.
Perimeter venting in the BAM relieves pressure from under the spider, supports
linear excursion, and helps dissipate heat from the voice coil and motor structure.

Voice Coils: The dual ultra length voice coils sustain enormous
cone excursion and provide flexible impedance matching options. The high-temperature
Polyimide Film Voice Coil former improves sonic and conducive properties, and prevents
thermal-electrical meltdown. The voice coils are rated to 220° Celsius.

UniPlate Construction: The Solo-Baric L7 features a one-piece
UniPlate construction with a vented hyper-extended pole piece and backplate. This
unique design provides the following benefits:

  • Optimizes heat transfer efficiency for cooler operation
    and maximum power handling capability
  • Eliminates erratic magnetic flux from the voice coil gap
  • Releases pressure under the suspension for uniform cone
    movement and responsive low bass
  • Prevents the voice coil from bottoming out and the
    corresponding damage

Tinsel Lead Wires: The sleeved, high-power tinsel lead wires
eliminate broken leads and power loss, due to the common use of insufficient gauge
lead wires. The lead wires are terminated with multiple polymer-based strain relieving
mechanical fasteners.

Speaker Terminals: The terminals are spring loaded and nickel
plated for solid connections with speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Solo-Baric
L7 woofers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass
response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff
out-of-the-box. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension
to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit
stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume:

  • Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 1.25
    cubic feet
  • SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 2. 0 cubic
    feet

Recommended Vented Box Volume:

  • Compact: 1.75 cubic feet; 2.5″
    x 13.25″ port opening; 22.5″ port length
  • SQ: 3.25 cubic feet; 3″ x 13.25″
    port opening; 14.5″ port length

Cutout: The woofer will not mount in a standard enclosure
with a round cutout. Instead, the woofer must be mounted in an enclosure with
a 11.048″ x 11.048″ square opening.

I’m afraid not–if one of your dual coils is damaged or not working, you would not get good bass performance when wiring it as a single voice coil. You would likely want to replace the sub all together. For more information or to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Audition speakers before you buy

SpeakerCompare simulates the sound of home and car speakers through your headphones. It lets you compare sonic characteristics between speakers so that you can make a more informed shopping decision.

Why selecting your headphones is important

SpeakerCompare tailors your listening experience to the exact headphones you have, so that what you hear is comparable to auditioning speakers side-by-side in person. Knowing which model headphones you’re using lets us remove any sonic coloring from your experience.

Two different listening modes

In an actual listening room, you’d find that some speakers play louder than others when fed the same amount of power. In equal power mode, you’ll hear these differences in loudness as they naturally occur between speakers.

In equal volume mode, we’ve made the loudness of each speaker about the same. This gives you a more direct comparison of subtle voicing differences between speakers.

Nothing beats listening to speakers in your space

SpeakerCompare gives you a sense of the sonic differences. But performance in the real world is affected by the acoustics of your car or home, your choice of amplification, and your source material. We still believe that the gold standard for auditioning speakers is hearing them in your own environment — that’s why we offer a 60-day money-back guarantee.

Our Listening Kit

To help you choose the right speakers, we recommend using Crutchfield’s SpeakerCompare Listening Kit. It includes a pair of studio-quality headphones, and a guide to getting the most out of your session, and a few other necessary items. We’ve carefully chosen the components of this kit to ensure a crystal-clear listening experience. It’s available for a nominal rental fee, and includes a $25 Crutchfield merchandise credit.

Kicker Solo-Baric L7 Series 06S12L74 12″ subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Dual Voice Coils: For increased
system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils
are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils
are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil
may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4
ohm load.

Square Design: By making the
Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving you the most possible cone area (Sd) for
a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area than a conventional round subwoofer. More
cone area means the Solo-Baric L7 moves more air, resulting in louder, deeper
bass.

Cone Materials: An injection molded and
reinforced, one-piece SoloKon cone is used resulting in greater rigidity for less cone
flex and less distortion. In addition, the cone is very resistant to
environmental extremes. A rear cone brace provides added strength and reduces
cone flex under stress.

Surround: The tough, flexible
Santoprene rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which
controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The corners of the
surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to
the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible.

Inverted Structural Dome: The
Inverted Structural Dome replaces a conventional dust cap and locks into the cone
for unmatched structural integrity and greatly reduced cone flexing/resonance.

Patented Enhanced BAM (Basket And
Motor) Assembly:
The cast aluminum basket features a low profile, open
design to provide a solid anti-resonant foundation for the motor assembly.

Spider: The durable
poly-cotton semi-progressive spider provides precise coil alignment and
critical cone motion control.

Voice Coil: The
voice coil is wound around an aluminum former with a flared bottom to effectively
dissipate heat. The result is a 220°
Celsius (428° Fahrenheit) rating to increase durability.

Chromed UniPlate Construction:
The UniPlate construction combines the backplate and extended pole piece into a
single unit to maximize magnetic efficiency and minimize alignment problems
often caused by two-piece construction. The bottom of the UniPlate is chromed to
provide enhanced heat transfer for cool operation and maximum power handling.

Bumped Back Plate: The deep
bumped back plate lets the voice coil reach maximum excursion without
bottoming-out.

Perimeter Venting: The
perimeter venting cooling system continuously pumps hot air away from the voice
coil, replacing it with cool outside air.

Gaskets: The one-piece rear gasket insures an airtight seal.
The shielding front gasket enhances the cosmetics and helps protect the wide
surround.

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black
rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the
cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet from chipping or breaking during
installation.

Tinsel Leads: The tinsel lead wires are
silver coated flat braided ribbon cables with soft rubber jackets. They are
glued and stitched to the spider and the connections are offset at the terminal
to align with the cone brace indentation and support extended excursion.

Speaker Terminals: The
terminals are spring loaded and nickel-plated for solid connections with speaker
wire up to 11 gauge.

Break-in Period:
Due to the complex nature of Kicker Solo-Baric L7 speakers, they require a
break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The
high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff
“out-of-the-box”. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow
the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A
“broken-in” subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother
response, and greater low-bass extension.

Enclosure
Compatibility

Power Handling: Power
handling varies depending upon the enclosure, as listed below. The power
handling specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply
only when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter is used with this woofer; if no
subsonic filter is used, the power rating will decrease and excessive port
noise can occur.
