Broke after 2 months
After 2 months, the refrigerator completely shut off. No power whatsoever. LG put me in touch with a technician and while the technician was quick to respond, LG wasn’t at all regrading my food reimbursement. I’d receive random texts saying they were on it but then no one would respond when I tried to follow up. Still no word…….

I’m wondering if this model will come with Door-in-Door feature like model LRSDS2706S?

Asked by: Joe Pais

The ENERGY STAR® LG 23 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Counter-Depth Refrigerator with Smooth Touch Dispenser, Model # LRSXC2306S is not available as a Door-in-Door® model. If a Door-in-Door® model is released, it will not have the same model number because once any feature or any specification changes on a refrigerator, so too will its model number. LG has not made any official announcements about if there are any plans of releasing a Door-in-Door® version of this refrigerator. You may want to review the LG 27 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Door-in-Door® Refrigerator, Model # LRSPS2706V or the LG 27 cu. ft. Side-By-Side InstaView™ Door-in-Door® Refrigerator, Model # LRSES2706V although both models do not have an Ice and Water Dispenser. Ivan

When using the water or ice dispenser – the ice pops all over the floor and the water drips onto the floor. I never had this problem with other refrigerators. There is no tray to catch anything. Not sure if there is a way to correct this problem.

Asked by: kathylo

As instructed in the Operation section on page 26 of your owner’s manual for the LG 23 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Counter-Depth Refrigerator with Smooth Touch Dispenser, Model # LRSXC2306S under ‘Using the Ice and Water Dispenser’,
• Dispense ice into a glass before filling it with water or other beverages. Splashing may occur if ice is dispensed into a glass that already contains liquid
• Some dripping may occur after dispensing. Hold the cup beneath the dispenser for a few seconds
after dispensing to catch all of the drops.
• Keep containers at an appropriate distance from the dispensers. Ivan

How to Measure a Refrigerator (with Photos)

When purchasing a refrigerator, it’s tempting to imagine that you can simply find a refrigerator that fits snugly into the space where you plan to put it. However, there are other things you need to consider, such as whether there is enough room for the hinges to open, whether the doors will collide with anything in your kitchen, and even whether it is possible to carry a refrigerator through the doors of your house. When making such a large purchase, you need to make sure that everything is done correctly.

    Steps

Part one of 4: Measurement width

    1. one Move the refrigerator. To get many of the correct measurements, you must move the refrigerator to allow access to the space. Don’t forget to take everything out of the fridge and have at least one strong person around to help you.

      • Do not leave shelves in the refrigerator that could move during transport. Either take out the shelves and move them individually, or secure them with tape.
      • Make sure the doors do not open while you are moving the refrigerator. Take a strap and tie it around the doors or wrap them with tape.
      • Never place the refrigerator on its side.

    2. 2 Measure the opening space. You may be tempted to measure the size of your current refrigerator. But it is possible that the size of the refrigerator is not optimal for the room. Start by measuring the open space where you will place the refrigerator.

    3. 3 Use a retractable measuring tape. Attach one end to the wall. Stretch the tape to reach the opposite end of the open space. Mark the size on the tape with a pencil. Write down the size on a separate piece of paper.

    4. 4 Repeat measurement. Not only is it possible that you have misread the tape measure, but it is also possible that your house has settled. This may cause some surfaces to become uneven. Repeat the measurement at another point in the open space.

      • If there is a discrepancy, use the smaller measurement. It’s better to have too much space rather than not enough.
    5. 5 Choose a store model that allows you more space. You will need at least 2.5 centimeters of extra space at both ends of the refrigerator so that you have room to remove dust from the sides. However, you will also need at least two inches on either side that has a door hinge to allow room for the refrigerator to fully open and close. Advertising

Part 2 of 4: Height measurement

    1. one Move the refrigerator. You will need to move the fridge to get some measurements. Be sure to remove all food from the refrigerator. Find at least one strong person to help you.

      • Do not leave shelves in the refrigerator. They can be pushed while moving. Either take out the shelves and move them individually, or secure them with tape.
      • Be careful not to open the doors when you move the refrigerator. Either take a strap and tie it to the doors, or wrap them with tape.
      • When moving the refrigerator, do not place it on its side. This can seriously damage the refrigerator.
    2. 2 Get help measuring your height. You may need the help of a second person to secure the faucet to the top of the space while you lower it down and record the measurement. You may also need help from someone above you. It is helpful to have a second person nearby if possible.

      • Alternatively, hang the metal hook at the top of the tape measure on any available surface at the top of the space. Pull the tape measure down to get the first measurement. Then measure the distance from the top of the space to the overhang from which the tape measure hung. Add this distance to the first measure to get the total height.
    3. 3 Pull out the retractable measuring tape about a foot. In this way, the tape will reach a height higher than you.

    4. 4 Press the top of the tape against the housing. Have a second person pull the measuring tape to the ground. Mark the end point on the tape measure, then write the number down on a paper notepad along with your other measurements.

    5. 5 Repeat measurement.

    6. 6 Choose a model that has at least one inch of open space. Refrigerators require ventilation to function properly. There should be at least one inch above the refrigerator. Advertisement

Part 3 of 4: Measuring depth

    1. one Move the refrigerator. To get many measurements, especially deep ones, you will need to move the refrigerator. Don’t forget to take everything out of the fridge and have at least one strong person on hand to help you.

      • Do not leave shelves in the refrigerator that could move during transport. Either take out the shelves and move them individually, or secure them with tape.
      • Make sure the doors do not open while you are moving the refrigerator. Either take a strap and tie it to the doors, or wrap them with tape.
      • When moving the refrigerator, never place it on its side.
    2. 2 Measure from the back of the space to the front of the rack. Place a measuring tape on the back of the available space. Pull the tape out to the front of the rack. Write down the number on the tape measure.

    3. 3 Repeat measurement. Not only is it possible that you have misread the tape measure, but it is also possible that your house has settled. This may cause some surfaces to become uneven. Repeat the measurement at another point in the space allotted for the refrigerator.

      • If there is a discrepancy, use the smaller measurement. It’s better to have too much space rather than not enough.
    4. 4 Decide if you want the refrigerator to protrude from the counters. If you didn’t allow two extra inches on the side for the door hinges, you will need to move the refrigerator back two inches from the countertop to give the doors room to open. This will give you more room for depth, but you will need to make sure the doors don’t go too far into the room.

    5. 5 Leave at least an inch of space behind the refrigerator. Refrigerators require ventilation to function properly. Behind the refrigerator should be at least an inch of free space. Advertisement

Part 4 of 4: Finding the perfect fit

    1. one Check the height and width of the smallest doors. Enough space for a fridge means little if you can’t get it through the door. Determine how you will bring the refrigerator into your home. Compare the size of doorways to determine if there is enough room for a refrigerator.
    2. 2 Check door length. Many refrigerator models do not advertise door sizes. At the store, open the doors 90 degrees and measure from the back of the refrigerator to the end of the door. At home, take a measuring tape and see how far your kitchen doors open. Start where the back of the refrigerator will be, at least an inch from the wall, and measure the total length of the refrigerator depth and door lengths.

      • If you need to move the refrigerator over the edge of the rack to accommodate the door hinges, you may need to adjust the dimensions. Start two inches from the rack. Measure the depth of the refrigerator to the wall. At this point, the back of the refrigerator will lie. From here, measure the outside depth of the refrigerator plus the length of the door. This will be the length that the door opens into the room.
      • Once you know how far the door will open into the room, ask yourself if this is acceptable. Will there be enough room to fully open the door without hitting the counter? Will an open door close the passage to the kitchen or make things difficult?
      • If the door extends too far, consider an alternative model. Refrigerators with french doors and side doors won’t go that far into your kitchen.
    3. 3 Find a model with enough storage space. How much storage space you need depends on the size of your family and your eating habits. You must allocate at least 4-6 cubic feet of space for each adult using the refrigerator.
      • On average, a couple who doesn’t often eat at home should aim for 12-16 cubic feet of refrigeration space.
      • Couples who cook frequently must have at least 18 cubic feet of space.
      • A family of four should typically have at least 20 cubic feet of space.
      • Also consider how much space you need. Are you more inclined to eat frozen foods or fresh vegetables? Find a model that distributes space according to your dietary habits.

    • Question How are refrigerators measured? Aaron Beth
Home Appliance Technician Aaron Beth is the founder of Aaron’s Refrigeration Company in New York and a Certified Installer (FCI) for Sub-Zero products. He specializes in servicing built-in refrigerators, wine coolers and ice makers. With over 54 years of experience, Aaron is the recipient of numerous Super-Service awards from Angie’s Lists and 2019Best of the City. Aaron Beth Home Appliance Specialist’s Answer Most refrigerators you buy are measured in cubic feet, which refers to the space inside the appliance.
    • Question Can I measure the refrigerator to include the hinges or not? Usually not for most installations. But for an individual installation, this addition must be known and taken into account.
    • Question Are the feet included in the height? Yes, the legs at the minimum height are included, but the hinges at the top do not protrude.
    • Question Are the door handles and the radiator at the back included in the stated depth measurements of the refrigerator freezers? From the manufacturer – yes, a radiator (condenser), but not a door (s) and a handle (s). If you are buying from a third party manufacturer, they will have to explain what the measurement is. Most people give the size with the door, not the handle.
    • Question: Is the width smaller at the back of the refrigerator? Donaghan Chief Responsible No.

Model dimensions (width, depth, height), standard and non-standard dimensions

Refrigeration equipment is installed not only in apartments, residential buildings and cottages, but it is also used in various enterprises, for example, in the food industry, in offices with shared kitchen facilities. Without a refrigerator, proper storage of food is impossible. One of the main criteria for choosing units used for cooling is the dimensions, as they affect the placement of equipment.

What are the sizes of refrigerators, what are their standard dimensions? The height, depth and width of modern models of refrigeration equipment vary greatly and depend on several factors. This article discusses the possible overall dimensions of the refrigerator, provides answers to popular questions, and also gives useful tips to customers.

What determines the dimensions of the refrigerator

The standard sizes of refrigerators depend on various factors, which include:

    • The volume of refrigeration equipment, that is, its capacity.
    • Total number of cameras.
    • Design features, namely the location of the refrigerator chambers relative to each other, features of opening doors.
    • Functions. The more of them, the larger the refrigerator can be. This is due to the fact that in order to expand the set of options, additional equipment is introduced into the body of the device, which increases the dimensions.

What influences the selection of suitable refrigerator sizes

The sizes of household refrigerators for storing food products are very diverse, so it is not easy to make a choice. And in order to find and select the optimal dimensions of refrigeration equipment, it is necessary to take into account such important points:

    • Number of family members living in the apartment/house. The more of them, the more significant should be the volume of the refrigeration device. It is measured in liters.
    • The growth of technology users. For a family with low adults and children, an excessively high unit will not work, since it will not be very convenient to get food out of it. Low models with a small height are more preferable.
    • Lifestyle, habits and preferences of the refrigeration owner. So, if the family is used to stocking up on food for a long time, then the volume of the refrigerator should be large, and good capacity will be the main indicator when choosing. If the owner plans to freeze vegetables, herbs, fruits, meat, berries, fish, semi-finished products, ice cubes and something else in large volumes for long-term storage, then the presence of a large freezer should be of particular importance when choosing.
    • Refrigerator location. It is customary to install refrigeration equipment in the kitchens, because it is there that in many houses and apartments there is a food storage area. But it happens that there is not enough free space in the kitchen, for example, due to the abundance of furniture and other household appliances (stove, oven, microwave, washing machine and other appliances). And then, to install a refrigerator, some people prefer to choose other rooms of housing: a living room, a corridor, an office, a bedroom, a pantry.
    • The area and layout of the room in which the person wants to install a refrigerator. The refrigeration device should fit perfectly into the interior and at the same time not take up much space, so you should definitely pay attention to the features of the room chosen for installing the unit. So, if it is spacious, then the choice is practically unlimited: a person can afford to buy the largest and most spacious model. If the area of \u200b\u200bthe room is small, then you will have to choose a compact household refrigeration appliance. For narrow and elongated rooms, shallow, but rather wide or tall refrigerators are more suitable.
    • Appointment of the refrigerator, features of its use. It is necessary to immediately determine what the technique is intended for and will be used for. If a person wants to organize a food storage area, then standard models are quite suitable for him. If the refrigerator will be used primarily for freezing, then its freezer should be as spacious as possible. For a wine cellar or bar, it is better to buy either a special refrigerator with shelves, or a large refrigeration unit with a large number of compartments and the ability to comfortably accommodate and store bottles of drinks.
    • Materials used for repairs, in particular flooring. It is designed for certain loads, so not every floor can withstand a large mass of a large and heavy household appliance.

    Size classification of refrigerators

All refrigerators that are presented on the modern Russian market are classified by size into the following types:

    • Small. Mini-refrigerators are small in size, have one or two small chambers with one common door.
    • Medium. This type is practically a standard, which is very popular among owners of typical apartments and small private houses. As a rule, models of this category have two chambers with a single common door or two doors (separately for each chamber).
    • Full-size, that is, full-size. These are large models that have from two cameras, but there are options with several cameras. Each compartment has its own door.

Separation of refrigerators by design features

The designs of refrigerators differ from each other, primarily in the number of available chambers. And there are these types:

    • Single chamber. Such units are optimal in studio apartments, small kitchens. 1-chamber models have a single chamber and are the smallest. The refrigerator compartment usually holds from 25 to 120-140 liters, and the freezer – about 30-60 liters. The freezer in the single-chamber unit is located in the upper zone. The advantages of 1-chamber models include an affordable price, low weight (respectively, an insignificant load on the flooring material), as well as ease of maintenance and continuous operation. The main disadvantage is the impossibility of storing a large number of products inside one chamber.
    • Double chamber. The refrigerator, consisting of 2 chambers, allows you to keep the freshness of food that a family of 3-4 people can eat. The volume of a two-chamber refrigeration device is included in a fairly wide range – from 250-270 liters to 350-370. Two-chamber refrigerators have two chambers equipped with separate doors so that the owner has access separately to the main compartment and to the freezer. The freezer can be located both at the top and at the bottom. The list of advantages of two-chamber devices includes separately located freezer and refrigerator compartments, an impressive range of models, the autonomy of two compartments and the associated ability to regulate temperature conditions, as well as the presence of numerous additional options. Large dimensions can be considered a disadvantage. In addition, some models with two cameras weigh a lot.
    • “SidebySide” refrigerators (alternatively spelled “side-by-side”). In such models, both cameras are not located in a vertical plane (one above the other), but horizontally (on the same line). That is, the compartments are vertical. Refrigerators of the “SidebySide” type are considered an American invention and are distinguished by the lateral location of the separate freezer. This is a “side by side” design, in fact “two in one”. The doors in such models usually open towards each other. The volume of “SidebySide” refrigerators can reach 700-800 liters in total. The freezer holds up to 300 liters. Refrigeration devices of this type have decent technical and operational characteristics, they are well equipped. The disadvantages include the fact that such a massive unit often takes up too much space, which is not found in every kitchen.
    • Non-standard. Such refrigerators have an unusual, sometimes very interesting and original configuration, including several refrigerators and freezers. Compartments can be located in different ways, but, as a rule, they are intended for holding and cooling different products, for example, fresh and frozen, drinks, vegetables, convenience foods, and so on. Such models are distinguished by maximum functionality, often have numerous modes and programs, including storage “in a vacuum” with maximum protection against bacteria from outside and from damage. The temperature in each chamber is set separately, taking into account the characteristics of the products.

    Accommodation options

According to the methods of placement in a room of a house or apartment, refrigerators can be divided into the following types:

    • Standard floor. They are placed on the floor, used in most apartments and private houses. There are small low models that can be built under the countertop or placed in a modular kitchen cabinet.
    • Desktop. A small refrigerator in the kitchen can be placed on a table, kitchen cabinet, cabinet or other piece of furniture.
    • Wall-mounted, also called wall-mounted. Such units belong to non-standard and rare models that are fixed indoors on the wall. Typically, such devices are small-sized, have a small volume and light weight.

Also, according to the installation method, refrigerators manufactured by different manufacturers are divided into:

    • Freestanding. Any freestanding refrigerator is placed separately, for example, between a wall and a cabinet, between two pieces of furniture.
    • Recessed. They are installed in columns, special cabinets, niches, sometimes between furniture (the body must be placed close to the walls of the furniture). Built-in models are usually smaller in size than stand-alone ones. The big advantage of such refrigeration devices is the absence of the need to carefully select the design of the unit, taking into account the style of the interior of the room. But the depth is usually insignificant, as it is determined and limited by the depth of the built-in cabinet, headset or niche organized in the kitchen or in another room.

Design depending on the region of production

There are no generally accepted standard dimensions for modern refrigerators. Refrigerators are produced by different companies: manufacturing firms are located in different countries, focus on different consumers. Preferences, features of life and way of life of the inhabitants of the states differ significantly. For example, Europe, America and Asia have different standards for designs and sizes. And therefore, all refrigerators are conditionally divided into three groups:

    • European. Such models usually have a maximum height with insignificant depth and width. The freezer is at the bottom and the refrigerator is at the top. Devices of this type are popular with most Russians.
    • American. The dimensions of these models of refrigerators are usually much larger than the others, both in height and in two other parameters – width with depth. The freezer separate chamber can be located below or on the side in the form of an independent compartment.
    • Asian. The freezer in the model of this type will be located at the top, and the refrigerator compartment at the bottom. The height is small, but the depth and width are increased (an order of magnitude greater than that of European devices).

    Overview of existing refrigerator parameters

Before finding out the standard dimensions of the refrigerator, you should determine what overall parameters exist. There are three in total:

    • Height. It is measured as simply as possible and is the distance from the bottom of the case to the highest point, that is, in fact, from the floor to the top of the case. There are many options, and there are models that reach the ceiling.
    • Depth. How to correctly and accurately measure the depth of the refrigerator? This parameter is the distance from the most protruding point of the front part (door surface) to the most protruding part of the back (rear) side of the case.
    • Width. The width indicator is a segment between the sides of the body (walls).

Dimensions typical of standard medium refrigeration units

What are the dimensions of refrigerators that are classified as medium, that is, standard? Consider their parameters:

    • The average height of refrigerators with standard dimensions ranges from 130 centimeters to 160-170. Such parameters correspond to the growth of an average person, therefore they guarantee comfort in use and an average capacity.
    • The width of the refrigerator can be on average from 55 cm to 65 cm. The chamber of such a device will fit two small pots placed side by side. You can also put large enough containers here.
    • The standard depth of medium-sized refrigerators varies from half a meter to 60 centimeters. And this parameter corresponds to the dimensions of a typical countertop.

For your information! Models from different manufacturers may differ by several centimeters. There are no standard steps, so if you wish, you can purchase a refrigeration device of almost any most suitable size.

    Dimensions of small refrigerators

For a small refrigerator, the dimensions can be as follows:

    • The minimum height of compact type refrigerators is half a meter or even 40 centimeters for non-standard mini models. The maximum height is from a meter to 1 meter and 20 centimeters.
    • In width, a small unit can vary from forty centimeters to 55-60. This setting may remain the default if the manufacturer decides to reduce the height.
    • The depth of a mini-refrigerator, selected for a small area kitchen, ranges from 37-55 cm. But it is important to remember that there will not be too much usable space inside a shallow model, since most of the internal volume is occupied by a compressor.

For your information! The category of compact small refrigeration devices includes the so-called mini-bars, in which soft drinks are stored in hotels or homes.

    Full size dimensions

The sizes of large refrigerators are as follows:

    • The depth of a full-sized refrigerator is approximately 60 centimeters or a maximum of 70. Deeper refrigerators are less common, since it is problematic to extract the contents from them (the length of an ordinary person’s arm is not designed for such dimensions).
    • What is the maximum height of a full size refrigerator? For especially large and high models of equipment, it reaches 2 meters and 20 centimeters. But such models are convenient only for tall people, although they can accommodate quite a lot and often have several cameras. The minimum height of Bosch full-size refrigerators and other brands is 170 cm or 180, the maximum height is 2 meters or 2.1.
    • Even large refrigerators have a standard width of sixty centimeters. But wine cabinets and chest freezers can be wider – up to 80 cm. For non-standard models, the width can reach up to 85 centimeters. But it is unlikely that it will be possible to fit such a large unit into the interior of a typical kitchen, so happy owners of spacious cottages and houses buy such options.

    Single chamber devices

The standard dimensions of a refrigerator with only one chamber are usually small, but the volume is also much smaller compared to two-chamber models. In height, such devices do not exceed one and a half meters, and at least 50-60 cm. Often a standard width is provided – 55 or 60 cm on average. The depth can be about the same.

    Double chamber models

A two-chamber refrigerator, unlike a 1-chamber one, has more impressive dimensions:

    • The standard height of a refrigerator equipped with two compartments starts from 85 centimeters, goes up to 240 cm or even 2. 5 meters.
    • The width of the refrigerator is standard, and on average it is 60 cm.
    • The depth of the refrigerator compartment also does not differ from the standards in force for single compartment models. These are the same sixty centimeters.

    SidebySide Variations

The dimensions of SidebySide refrigeration equipment have a wide range and depend on the number of refrigerating chambers. The more of them, the higher the device. Consider the possible indicators of width with height and depth:

    • Height – from 170 cm to 200-210.
    • The depth of refrigerators of this variety can be maximum – 85 cm. But there are also less profound options.
    • The medium size refrigerator is 78 cm wide. Wide variations reach 110-120 cm.

    Non-standard models

There are also non-standard models produced by the most popular manufacturers on sale. They reach a height of 2.5 meters, but such variations are rare. Also, very narrow units with a 40-centimeter width can be considered non-standard. The depth is not less than 37 centimeters or more than 80-85. But the width indicators, which sometimes determine the volume of internal space, are practically unlimited. But wide appliances are only suitable for spacious kitchens.

    Built-in devices

How many cm in depth, height and width can built-in refrigeration equipment be? The standard dimensions of a refrigerator designed to be built into a cabinet, column or niche are usually small, since the body should not extend beyond the built-in area. The depth is no more than 55 centimeters. The width is either the standard 60 cm or less. Wide models are built in much less frequently.

The height depends on the content of the structure and the number of chambers. If there are two or more compartments, then the refrigerator can be high, reaching almost to the ceiling. Compact appliances that will be built under the countertop or in a cabinet should not be higher than 80 or 82 cm.

Important! The installation dimensions of a refrigerator with a freezer, like any other household appliances, are indicated by the manufacturer in the instructions. The guide also provides recommendations for embedding.

Different manufacturers: what sizes do they offer

Refrigerators are produced by different manufacturers, and the dimensions of the equipment are not standardized, so they vary greatly. Here are the dimensions of the devices of several well-known brands:

    • Midea. In recent years, options with a 180-centimeter height and a standard 55-centimeter width are considered the most popular in recent years.
    • “Indesit”. Indesit household appliances are characterized by: height 1.8 or 2 meters, width 60-70 cm. Depth values are different.
    • Korting. Such options are characterized by a width of 595 or 780 mm, a depth of 66 to 69 cm and a height of 1.8-2 m.
    • Gorenje. Dimensions of a standard Samsung refrigerator: 1. 8 m high, 60 cm wide and 55 cm deep.
    • Bosch. This manufacturer offers options with a height of 1.85 meters or 2 m, a depth of 65 cm or 63, with a width of sixty centimeters.

For your information! Typically, manufacturers indicate not only the exact dimensions of the equipment case, but also the dimensions of the refrigerator in the package, which should be taken into account during transportation.

What else to look for when choosing a refrigerator

The standard size of the refrigerator is an important, but not the only selection criterion. Also, when buying, consider:

    • Electricity consumption. To save money, you should choose the most economical options for classes “A ++” and “A +++”.
    • Management. It can be “smart” automatic, electronic or manual. Some household appliances are equipped with displays (located next to the control panels). There are also devices controlled remotely, that is, using a remote control.
    • Defrost system (principle). It can be drip, the so-called “Nofrost” (air) and combined.
    • Modes and options. Some models are equipped with ice generators, air circulation mechanisms, automatic settings for programs and working conditions for different products, a quick defrost or ionization function, and other options.
    • The volume of the refrigerator compartment and freezer. The minimum modest value automatically makes the household appliance less capacious. If you need to store large amounts of food, full-size variations are traditionally chosen, usually with a freezer.
    • Design: appearance, color, texture. Household appliances should fit into the interior of the kitchen.
    • Value for money.
    • Opinions of owners. Reviews, comments, ratings of the best models and ratings can be found on online shopping sites, special review sites, forums and other online resources.

    Placement rules: consider dimensions

If you still cannot make the right choice of a refrigerator, then find out the nuances that relate to placement:

    • There must be space in front of the appliance so that open doors do not block the passage and do not interfere with movement.
