If you’re often on the go and find over-ear headphones to be a bit too bulky, in-ears and earbuds are a great portable option. They tend to be very small and easy to bring around, and some designs are also more oriented toward sports. Some might not be as comfortable as well-padded over-ear headphones, but they can be a good option for passively isolating you against the outside world without breaking the bank for high-end noise cancelling over-ears.

We’ve tested over 290 earbuds and in-ear headphones, and below are our recommendations for the best wireless earbuds under $100 to buy. If you’re looking for our top picks in general or are curious about different features, check our recommendations for the best headphones under $100, the best wireless earbuds, the best wireless headphones under $100, and the best earbuds under $50.

The Anker Soundcore Space A40 Truly Wireless are the best earbuds under $100 that we tested. These buds are jam-packed with active features like adaptive active noise cancelling (ANC), multi-device pairing, and companion app support that help them stand out from other picks on this list. They also support LDAC, Sony’s proprietary codec for Hi-Res audio, and have a ‘Game Mode’, which can help lower latency if you’re gaming or streaming video.

These comfortable and well-built buds have a warm sound profile that you can customize using the app’s graphic EQ and presets. Whether you’re working in a busy office or on a noisy commute, they can also block out an outstanding amount of ambient noise so that you can focus on your audio. With their ANC on, they last over eight hours continuously, but their carrying case supplies an additional four charges, which is handy in a pinch. Their integrated mic’s recording quality is poor, causing your voice to sound far away and sharp.

If you’re looking for a balanced sound from your earbuds, check out the Wyze Buds Pro Truly Wireless. Even though they’re somewhat limited in extra features, these buds have a neutral sound profile that delivers adequate thump, punch, and warmth, while vocals and instruments are clear and detailed. Overall, their sound is versatile enough for a variety of content. Aside from their adaptive EQ feature, which allows the buds to adjust their audio reproduction automatically based on what you’re listening to, their companion app doesn’t offer much sound customization.

These decently comfortable buds have a stable in-ear fit and a well-built design and are certified IPX4 for resistance against water splashes. They’re also equipped with an ANC system and can block out a decent amount of background noise, although it doesn’t perform nearly as well as the Anker Soundcore Space A40 Truly Wireless. They have a disappointing battery performance, though, and if you have the ANC on, the buds only last four and a half hours on a single charge. Luckily, there are three extra charges in the carrying case, and you can even use one bud while the other charges.

Consider the Skullcandy Push Active True Wireless if you want something more sporty. These comfortable buds have an ear-hook design, which helps them stay in place during tough runs and workouts. They’re well-built and certified IP55 for resistance against dust and direct water exposure. They last well over nine hours continuously, and their carrying case supplies over three charges if you need them.

These buds have a bass-rich sound to help keep you pumped up during difficult reps. If you prefer a different sound, they have a companion app with a graphic EQ and presets to help you fine-tune them. Unfortunately, they don’t have ANC and struggle to block out bass-range noise like car engine rumbles, which can be annoying if you’re jogging along a busy street. If you don’t like the look and feel of ear hook headphones, try the Jabra Elite 3 True Wireless instead. They have a smaller earbud design and can even reduce more ambient sound. However, their in-ear fit isn’t as stable.

The best Bluetooth earbuds under $100 for work we’ve tested are the Jabra Elite 65t Truly Wireless. These in-ears are discontinued, but you can still easily find them via some retailers. If you take lots of calls at work, their integrated mic offers superior performance compared to other earbuds on this list and does a decent job of capturing your voice clearly, even in moderately noisy environments.

Unlike the Skullcandy Push Active True Wireless, these buds support multi-device pairing, which is handy when you want to stay connected to your work’s PC and smartphone simultaneously. Their fit is bulky, and they can push against your ear, which can be fatiguing to wear.

They have a fairly well-balanced sound profile out of the box, but if you prefer a different sound, their companion app offers a graphic EQ and presets to help you adjust their sound. While they don’t have an ANC system, they can still reduce office chit-chat and the high-pitched hum of AC units around you. They last over five hours continuously, which may not be enough for long days at your desk, but luckily, their carrying case supplies an additional two charges.

The Beats Flex Wireless are the best Bluetooth earbuds for iPhone under $100 that we’ve tested. These colorful neck cable earbuds have some Apple-centric features worth considering if you’re an iPhone user. Unlike other picks on this list, their W1 chip lets you seamlessly pair them with other devices in your Apple ecosystem. They also have low latency on iOS devices, ensuring your audio and visuals stay in sync when streaming video. Their comfortable and stable in-ear fit makes them suitable for jogs in the park.

Fans of EDM and hip-hop can especially enjoy their bass-heavy sound profile, which delivers extra thump, rumble, and boom to mixes. However, their companion app doesn’t offer customization features to adjust the buds to your liking. Their mid-range is fairly flat, so vocals and lead instruments are still present in your mixes. They have roughly 11 hours of continuous playback time and fully charge up in just over an hour. Even though they don’t have ANC, and they struggle to block out bass-range noise like bus engine rumbles, they do a better job when it comes to isolating you from ambient chatter.

            Notable Mentions

            • Anker SoundCore Life P3 Truly Wireless:
The Anker SoundCore Life P3 Truly Wireless are in-ear headphones with a robust ANC system. However, unlike the Anker Soundcore Space A40 Truly Wireless, they don’t support multi-device pairing, and their continuous battery life is shorter.

            • Anker Soundcore Life Dot 2 Truly Wireless:
Although the Anker Soundcore Life Dot 2 Truly Wireless are pretty no-frills compared to the Anker Soundcore Space A40 Truly Wireless, they’re more affordable and have almost 100 hours of total battery life, which is incredible for truly wireless buds. However, they aren’t as comfortable and don’t have an ANC or companion app.

            • EarFun Air Pro 3 True Wireless:
If you like a more excited sound, the EarFun Air Pro 3 True Wireless are feature-rich earbuds with a V-shaped sound profile that delivers extra bass and treble. They don’t sound as neutral as the Wyze Buds Pro Truly Wireless, and their sound muddies vocals and instruments, but they’re more customizable.

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best wireless Bluetooth earbuds under $100 to buy for most people. We factor in the price (cheaper headphones win over pricier ones if the difference isn’t worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no headphones that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

If you would like to choose for yourself, here is the list of all our reviews of wireless earbuds and in-ears under $100. Be careful not to get caught up in the details. There are no perfect headphones. Personal taste, preference, and listening habits will matter more in your selection.

Earlier this year I highlighted discounts on JBL’s new-for-2022 Live Pro 2 and Live Free 2 buds. Both sets of buds offer a comfortable fit — the Live Pro 2 have stems while the Live Free 2 have a pill-shaped design — along with strong noise canceling, good sound quality and voice-calling performance, plus a robust feature set. The list price for both is $150, but they’re both on sale at Amazon ahead of Black Friday for $75, their lowest price to date. The Live Pro 2 are on my list of favorite earbuds of 2022.

This story is part of Amazon Prime Day, CNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to find the best deals.

The Live Pro 2 and Live Free 2 are equipped with the same 11mm drivers, six microphones, oval tubes and oval silicon tips. I got a tight seal from the largest set of ear tips and both buds fit my ears securely — I was able to run with them without a problem and they are IPX5 splash-proof. Both use Bluetooth 5.2 and have multipoint Bluetooth pairing, allowing you to pair them to two devices simultaneously. The touch controls worked fine. Also worth noting: Both models’ charging cases feature wireless charging and while they’re thicker than AirPods cases, they’re still quite compact.

The JBL Live Pro 2 buds are also available in a few different color options.

            David Carnoy/CNET

Aside from the design, the biggest difference between the two buds is battery life. The stemless Live Free 2 are rated for up to seven hours, while the Live Pro 2 are rated for 10. They have a quick-charge feature that gives you four hours of juice from a 15-minute charge.

You may get better microphone pickup from the Live Pro 2 because their stems are closer to your mouth, but both models were good at reducing background noise during calls. There’s adjustable sidetone via the app that allows you to tweak how much you hear your voice in the buds as you talk (I always appreciate some good sidetone).

I was impressed with the noise canceling, which has an adaptive setting that can be toggled on and off in the app. It did an excellent job of muffling sound with virtually no hiss. There’s also an ambient aware mode (an adjustable transparency mode) and a talk-through mode that reduces the volume on whatever you’re listening to and opens the earbuds up to the outside world so you can have a conversation. The buds have upgradeable firmware.

Read more: Best Wireless Earbuds for 2022

The models sound similar, delivering dynamic, bold sound (read: a relatively wide soundstage) with good detail and strong bass. Their sound compares favorably to the sound offered by more expensive buds like the Beats Fit Pro and they also sound better than the AirPods Pro. While they’re a touch bass-heavy, you can tweak the sound profile a bit in the EQ settings of the app to tone things down a bit. They lack a bit of the refinement and depth that some higher-end buds such as the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds 2, Apple AirPods Pro 2, Sony WF-1000XM4 and Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 offer, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find better sound at this price.

I can’t guarantee the buds will fit everybody’s ears as well as they did mine. JBL claims they should fit those with smaller ears, but my ears are more medium-sized so I can’t say whether that’s really true or not. While I was slightly more partial to the Live Pro 2 — they make for a good AirPods Pro 2 alternative, especially for Android users — the Live Free 2 are more discreet-looking and didn’t stick out of my ears much at all.

Alas, they don’t support the aptX audio codec for Android users (the AAC audio codec sounds just fine, however). But with just about every key feature you could ask for and strong overall performance, they’re a decent value at $150 and a true bargain at $75.

The New Year holidays are getting closer, which means that you can think about summing up and make plans for 2022. Despite restrictions and lockdowns, in 2021, a lot of interesting premieres happened in the world of Hi-Fi and electronics. At the same time, many leaders of the past years have not lost their positions and retained their high ratings. In our selection – the best headphones 2021-2022, which should be presented as a gift to relatives, friends and even your loved one.

            Audio Technica ATH-ANC700BT

Active noise-cancelling wireless headphones are increasingly becoming the go-to choice for active noise-canceling headphones to help you relax on flights, focus in a noisy office or coffee shop, and enjoy music, video or podcasts in high-quality sound. Following new trends, Audio-Technica has introduced one of the most interesting models in its price category, the ATH-ANC700BT. It is based on a time-tested design and soft memory foam ear cushions that guarantee excellent noise isolation and comfort.

Of course, there is also the famous Audio-Technica sound, recognized as a reference by many sound engineers, and a modern system of active noise reduction, and convenient touch-gesture control of playback and calls. As for autonomy, there will be 25 hours of listening and up to 1000 hours of standby time on a single charge. It is worth noting that it is possible to connect both wired and wireless headphones.

            B&W PX7

It’s no secret that the British company Bowers & Wilkins produces not only absolutely luxurious acoustic systems, but also portable equipment that is interesting in every sense. Let’s take a look at the B&W PX7 wireless headphones: they were created by engineers involved in the design of the famous 800 Diamond speakers, which can also be found at the Abbey Road studio.

Inspired by racing supercars, the developers opted for modern body materials – in particular, carbon fiber, which guarantees lightness and strength, durability and wear resistance of the structure. At the same time, large drivers with a diameter of 43 mm sound great, and the adaptive noise reduction system automatically adjusts to environmental conditions and gives comfort in any environment. As for autonomy, we have up to 30 hours of continuous playback and a 15-minute fast charge, extending the listening time by another 5 hours. Also among the nice bonuses are smart sensors that automatically stop and resume playback when you remove and put on the headphones.

            DALI IO-6

Thirty-five years of successful experience in the production of loudspeakers has not been in vain for DALI: having accumulated a solid store of knowledge, the savvy Danes successfully debuted in the portable audio market with the introduction of high-end full-size headphones IO-6.

It’s no secret that the quality of DALI speaker systems speaks for itself. And given the fact that full-size headphones are, in a sense, a pair of miniature speakers, the engineers managed to introduce a new portable bestseller. Here and active noise reduction, which works very well, and balanced sound, typical of the company’s products. In general, DALI IO-6 is a good choice for travelers and not only: you can listen to music and podcasts for up to 30 hours, and even if the battery is dead, it is possible to connect headphones using the included cable with a standard minijack plug.

            Sennheiser Momentum Wireless

The German company Sennheiser introduced its first models of microphones back in 1946, after which it launched the production of high-quality headphones, which have since gone through a long evolutionary path and a real test of time. As a result, today we have before us the current Momentum Wireless model, a good example of respect for tradition and the skillful use of the latest technologies.

Meet by the clothes: the solid construction with stainless steel shackle and premium finishes are the first thing that catches the eye. It’s nice that the design here is not boring and in some ways even vintage. And thanks to the ergonomic design, Active Noise Cancellation and Transparent Hearing mode, Momentum Wireless not only sound as expected, but also guarantee incomparable comfort. Autonomy here is not the highest among competitors – up to 17 hours of listening. However, this is definitely enough for long walks and travel.

            Marshall Major IV

Since 1962, Marshall has been producing high-end professional audio equipment, and has recently been surprising with a very successful line of portable equipment. We drew attention to the Major IV wireless headphones, which are interesting for several reasons.

First of all, it attracts with its charismatic design, reminiscent of classic guitar amplifiers. By the way, the already well-thought-out ergonomics in the new generation has been further improved. In addition – of course, a solid, sweeping sound in the recognizable Marshall style, which was the result of careful tuning of proprietary drivers.

Separately, we note the fact that the battery life of the headphones reaches 80 hours, this is one of the record figures at the moment. In addition, Major IV provides the possibility of both wired and wireless charging.

Another characteristic feature of the headphones is a multifunctional joystick, thanks to which playback and calls control becomes extremely simple and convenient. Well, Marshall turned out, as always, stylish and fairly compact wireless headphones that successfully stand out from the competition and give the expected impressive sound.

            Sony WH-1000XM4

            The

Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Headphones are something of a multifunctional Swiss knife in the world of portable audio, a model with the expected high sound quality and some incredible amount of options.

First of all, we note auto-calibration and noise reduction with Dual Noise Sensor technology – a powerful weapon in the fight for sound quality. The system evaluates the content being listened to and the external environment at a frequency of 700 times per second, after which this information is sent to the QN1 processor, which adjusts the playback parameters in real time.

Worth mentioning is useful functionality for travelers: atmospheric pressure optimization technology is indispensable during air travel, and noise reduction can be adjusted so as not to miss important information, such as announcements in the airport lounge.

In addition, DSEE Extreme technology enhances the sound of compressed audio files with the help of artificial intelligence, and built-in sensors detect whether headphones are worn, automatically starting and stopping playback. Well, in order to instantly reduce the volume and assess the environment, just bring your palm to the right ear cup. But that’s not all: “cherry on the cake” is a mobile application with a lot of features and settings for avid geeks and those who like to customize everything to their taste.

Headphones last up to 30 hours on a single charge, and the convenient foldable design allows you to take the WH-1000XM4 with you on trips and outings. Thus, the fourth generation of the “thousandth” Sony remains one of the market leaders: certainly not the most affordable, but offering the most opportunities in its category.

For over 75 years, Sennheiser has been making audio products for professionals and connoisseurs of sound quality. And, of course, the company simply could not ignore the rapid development of the TWS earphone segment. Thus, we have a wireless model Momentum True Wireless 2.

In addition to the laconic design and consistently high sound quality, Momentum True Wireless 2 will appreciate the active noise reduction system and the Transparent Hearing function, which allows you to clearly hear the environment without removing your headphones if necessary. In addition, some of the interesting features of the model include customizable touch controls, support for voice assistants, and a “smart pause” option that works automatically when you remove the headphones and resumes playback when they are put back on.

Proprietary 7mm dynamic drivers give you a solid and detailed sound, and the built-in equalizer allows you to customize the playback settings to your taste. By the way, Momentum True Wireless 2 can play music and podcasts up to 7 hours, and thanks to the included charging case, autonomy increases to an impressive 28 hours.

            RHA TrueConnect 2

RHA is a relatively young and already very well-known company headquartered in Glasgow (Great Britain), which has loudly declared itself in the portable audio segment. We paid attention to the popular TWS model TrueConnect 2: it has good passive noise isolation, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual microphones for clear voice transmission in headset mode.

Separately, we note that TrueConnect 2 is protected from dust and moisture according to the IP55 standard and will become your faithful companion in any weather, and you can control playback and call the voice assistant using touch pads on the case. Headphones will work up to 9hours, and up to 35 more hours when using the charging case, which is a very good result. Of course, in the case of TrueConnect 2, an attractive price also matters, thanks to which the model has become a real bestseller.

Klipsch T5 II True Wireless ANC

Few audio manufacturers can combine tradition and innovation as deftly and skillfully as Klipsch. This statement is also true in the case of the stylish T5 II TW ANC wireless TWS earbuds, which not only attract the eye due to their non-trivial design, but also offer a maximum of relevant options.

First of all, we note 5.8-mm drivers with verified sound, active noise reduction system and Transparency Mode, for comfortable listening in any environment. In addition, Klipsch offers an interesting headphone control option: for example, you can answer a call by nodding your head, or reject a call or switch the track by turning your head to the side, which is especially convenient, for example, when you are walking from the store and your hands are full of shopping bags.

Another interesting feature is support for Dirac HD Sound technology, which optimizes the sound, enhances detail and improves bass reproduction. As for autonomy, T5 II True Wireless ANC will work up to 7 hours on a single charge and up to 21 hours when paired with a branded case.
