Replacement tv remotes samsung: Find a replacement remote control for your Samsung TV or projector

Find a replacement remote control for your Samsung TV or projector

You can look for the specific remote that was included with your Samsung TV or projector, or you can purchase an inexpensive alternative.

Purchase the included remote

Remotes are not sold on Samsung.com; they are instead available on our parts website, samsungparts.com. There are many models of remotes (all with slight variations), but you can find the exact remote your TV/projector came with by searching for your model number and then scrolling through the list until you see the remote.

If you need help finding your model number, you can use the model number tool on our Support Site or check out our guide to TV model numbers.

Purchase an alternative remote

Remotes can vary in price for different models; however, our IR remotes work with all of our TVs and projectors. In other words, you can pick any IR remote you like and it will work, even if your model isn’t listed as compatible with that remote.

Because of this, we recommend BN59-01301A as a replacement remote. This is one of the newer and cheaper models (around 15 dollars on samsungparts.com) and offers basic functionality, if that’s all you need.

Note: Taxes and fees may apply when ordering from samsungparts.com

Purchase a universal remote

Most universal remotes will work with your Samsung TV or projector as well, such as those found on Amazon or possibly even the remote that was included with your cable or satellite box. If you buy a universal remote, make sure the remote says it is compatible with Samsung before you buy it.

The fastest way to control your device without waiting for a replacement remote is to use your phone. If you’ve set this up and given permission before, or you still have your remote, it’s a breeze.

If you’ve lost your remote or haven’t set this up yet, your Samsung TV or projector will ask permission for your Galaxy phone to connect. You can then use the TV Controller button (sometimes called a jog controller) on the back of your TV to grant the permission. Please see your user manual for specific instructions if you’re unsure.

Here are some ways you can use your phone as a remote:

Do you have an older Samsung TV at home? Did you know that you can use the remote from ANY Samsung TV to perform at least a few functions. Even if the remote you are missing is a Smart Remote, an older IR remote from a Samsung TV should be able perform most of the following functions:

  • Turn the TV or projector on and off

  • Increase and decrease the volume

  • Change the channel up or down

  • Access the settings menu

  • If you have an older TV with a Smart Remote you can pair the remote to a newer TV that uses a Smart Remote, but may have limited fuctionality.

Universal remotes are generally used to control multiple devices and will work on most major TVs and home electronics. You can buy a universal remote to control your Samsung TV or projector, though you may already own one if you have a cable or satellite set top box, Roku player, Fire TV, or a game console remote.

The universal remote needs to be programmed to control your Samsung device with a code. Most of the time these codes are preprogrammed, but if the remote is not working, you’ll need to obtain additional codes for Samsung from the remote’s manufacturer.

Note: When using a universal remote, some features and functions of your Samsung device may not be available.

Even if you don’t currently have a remote, you can turn on the TV, adjust the volume, change the channel, and more right on the TV itself. TVs from 2019 and later use a single button that, when pressed, displays on the TV screen and cycles through the available functions each time you press it. To use a function, press and hold the button.

Some older models will have either several buttons on the right side of the TV or a joystick-like button on the lower right back of the TV. Refer to your TV’s user manual to check the location and type of controls.

The Samsung Freestyle has capactive touch buttons on the face. These include power, volume up/down, and a smart phone connection button. For additional details check out the user manual.

Not ready to throw the old one out just yet? Think it still has some life left in it? If you still have your remote but it’s not working, see our troubleshooting guide for steps to get it working again.

Understanding models numbers on a Samsung TV

To the average person, a TV’s model number probably looks like gibberish. However, all of the numbers and letters in the model code have a special meaning that helps manufacturers and retail stores identify exactly what model TV you have. Understanding how Samsung TV model numbers work can help you learn more about your own TV or other models you may be interested in. If you’re looking for the newest Samsung TV check out our website.

Before you can fully understand your Samsung TV’s model number, you need to find out what the number is. On older TVs, you can find it by looking at the back of the TV. However, on newer models, you can look it up in the TV’s settings menu.

  1. Use your TV’s remote to navigate to Settings (All Settings).

  2. Select Support and then select About TV (About this TV/Projector).

  3. The model number or code and serial number will be displayed on this page.

Once you’ve got the model number, you can find out more about your TV. Look up the specifications on the Samsung Support page or download your TV’s user manual.

Samsung TV Remote Controls Compatibility Chart 2012-2022

Samsung One Remote Control by Year

, you may be a little confused, remotes are offered in large quantities and by different manufacturers. You need to know the basic rules for choosing a remote control for a Samsung TV. A universal remote released after 2012 will work with any Samsung TV. Smart remote or One remote only works with certain TV models, I’ll tell you why.

Where can I buy a universal remote, Smart remote or One remote?

You can use the official parts website (US or UK remotes, ). You should also know that there are two names for the remote. For example, TM2180E is the marketing name and the part number is BN59-01357A. Samsung recommends looking for a new remote by part number. This name makes it difficult for many people to find the remote control. In addition, many replacement remote manufacturers have dozens of part numbers for remotes that have minor differences. But I tried to collect as much information as possible in the table, which makes it much easier to find the right remote control for your Samsung TV. Amazon also offers a large number of remotes for Samsung TVs.

Types of Samsung One remote and universal remote

There are two types of remote controls for Samsung TVs. These are universal remotes that have many buttons, and Smart remotes (One Remote).

Samsung Smart Remote vs Samsung One Remote

If you are wondering what is the difference between Smart and One remotes, I will answer that the difference between these remotes is small, and frankly, there is none. These are remotes for controlling smart TVs, these remotes have a bluetooth module, the TV is controlled via bluetooth. Until 2017, remotes were called Smart remotes. Since 2018, a new concept has been applied to make the remote stand out from a dozen similar remotes from other brands. Remotes began to be called one remote, which means the ability to control not only the TV, but also other devices that are connected to the TV, soundbars, media players. Now the remote control for Samsung smart TV is called One remote. But you should be aware that smart remotes from other brands also have these functions.

Samsung Universal Remote and One Remote

How Samsung Remotes Work – Smart and Universal

Universal Remote – Controls your TV using infrared light. It supports all TV controls except voice control. These remotes are less convenient to use, you have to point them at the TV when you press the buttons. But their advantage is that you can buy any remote and it will work with your TV if it was produced in 2012-2022, so these remotes are called universal. Also, a standard remote control allows you to enter the hidden menu of the TV to control settings at the operating system level. This option is intended for service technicians.

One Remote, Smart remote control – This remote control communicates with the TV using infrared (only to turn the TV on and off) and Bluetooth. Bluetooth is used to control the TV, you can also use voice commands to control the TV and search for information on the Internet. The One Remote Control is more convenient to use, it can receive voice commands and then transmit them to the TV. For entry-level 6.7 series TVs with regular screens, the One Remote Control does not come with a microphone because these TVs do not support voice control. Entry-level TVs have low-power processors, making it difficult to quickly process voice commands.

Non-original Samsung remote controls for Samsung TVs

There are many remote controls available as replacements for the original remote. These remotes are manufactured by third parties and may not support all the features of the original remote, this only applies to One remotes. Universal remotes, regardless of manufacturer, are the same, since the IR control protocol has not changed for 10 years. Now a little about the One remotes that are available as replacements. One remotes work with some TVs due to Bluetooth protocol compatibility. But replacement remotes can vary widely. Some remotes are advertised by the manufacturer as One remotes, but actually work only in the IR range, but have the appearance of a smart remote, which means that they do not have a Bluetooth module. Some remotes come with external Bluetooth adapters that need to be connected to the TV’s USB port. In addition, replacement remotes can support several TV models of different years, which in principle does not meet Samsung specifications. When choosing a replacement Samsung remote, I recommend that you definitely study the description of the remote, read the reviews, and if you have any doubts, ask the seller.

Cost One remote Samsung

The cost of the original remotes is quite high, as the manufacturer complies with all requirements for technical characteristics and workmanship. The original universal remote costs about $20, the original One remote costs over $60, the premium One remotes, for example, in a metal case, cost over $100. If the One remote costs around $20 or less, then most likely it does not have Bluetooth and works only in the infrared range, or has very limited functionality, as the developers of such a remote came up with.

Samsung TV remote control model numbers

As I said, there are two types of Samsung TV remote control model numbers. The Samsung TV remote commercial model number is the designation for Smart remotes: TM1950A, TM1950B, TM1950C. Universal consoles TM1240A. The commercial name of the remote control model can be found on the Samsung website in the technical specifications of the TV.
But upon purchase, you will see that the commercial name of the console is not used. Part number is used, which looks like BN59 for example-01266A. This is the number assigned to the remote control in the Samsung parts catalog. The model number or part number can be found on the remote control and this model number looks like BN59-01266A. Remotes are sold with these model numbers at stores such as Amazon.

One remotes compatible with older Samsung TVs

One remotes compatible with Samsung TVs — According to Samsung, your TV is compatible with the remote you found in the TV box. This is not entirely true, there are several modifications of the consoles, the differences between which are very relative. For example, the one you received with the TV has Amazon Prime and Netflix shortcut buttons, while another model of remote might have Disney+ instead of Netlix. In any case, you should know that the One remote can only turn on the TV, then the remote works via Bluetooth. If you managed to bind the remote to the TV (create a remote-TV pair), the remote will work, if not, alas, your TV does not support this modification of the remote.

Premium TVs 2021-20 22 come with an advanced smart remote called Solar sell. This One Remote has solar panels on the back of the remote and uses them to recharge the batteries in the remote. It reminded me of Japanese calculators from 1980-1990, they also had solar panels, the idea is not new, but it saves batteries, which is relevant today. Standard AU series TVs are equipped with a conventional Smart remote control. The remote control works with the following TV models.

But not in all countries and regions, this rule may not work. Therefore, I still recommend checking the compatibility of the remote control with your TV before buying. And it’s best to buy a remote compatible with your TV. See the table for compatibility with TV models.

How to install a remote control for a Samsung TV on a Samsung phone

To solve the problem of how to install a remote control for a Samsung TV on a Samsung phone, you need three components – a smartphone, TV and a special program for Android. Below we will consider which application can be used to connect and analyze its features. We will also consider for which TV manufacturers this option is provided, and what software needs to be installed in each specific case.

How to make a remote control for Samsung TV from a Samsung phone?

To use your Samsung phone as a TV remote, you need to download and install the Samsung TV & Remote software. This is a simple application with a clear interface. Once logged in, the screen displays buttons to set the channel, adjust the volume, turn the TV on and off, change the sound volume, etc. Using the second display, you can control the multimedia options. The application is offered for free, so it contains ads.

With Samsung TV & Remote, you can use your Samsung phone as a remote control. It is enough to install the software on a smartphone, after which control is carried out via a local network or via an infrared port (if it is provided on the device).

The program allows you to manage network IP, namely LAN, Wi-Fi Direct or Wi-Fi. Works with C, D, E, F, K and M models released after 2016, as well as H and F models. Follow these steps:

    • check that the TV and Samsung phone are connected to the same network;
    • make sure the privacy sharing feature of the router is disabled;
    • Enter the IP address manually if you cannot connect to the TV.

To search for IP, go to TV, and then to Menu, Settings, Network and Network Status.

To connect after the reset, go to Menu, then General Settings and then External Device Manager. The next step is to enter Device Connection Manager and List. In older TV models, the path may be different – Menu-Network-Expert settings-Mobile device manager. If your Samsung TV asks for a PIN when you try to connect, the TV app will not work with that TV app.

Now you know how to set up a Samsung TV remote control on your phone, which will allow you to replace a conventional remote control with your smartphone in the future. For correct operation of the mobile, point it directly at the TV. The optimal distance between the smartphone and the TV is up to five meters. Please note that on Samsung phones, it will not be possible to establish a connection and control the device if the device is almost discharged. In this case, the power saving mode may disable some functions.

Manufacturers note that the purpose of the Samsung TV & Remote program is not to replace the remote control, but to help establish a connection and control the TV if the remote control is lost. In this case, the connection takes a minimum of time. If the program suddenly does not work, you can ask the developer a question in the Play Market.

Connecting a Samsung phone as a remote control on other TVs

Now we know how to use the phone as a remote control for a Samsung TV. If desired, you can connect other TVs. Each model has its own programs. The principle of operation is identical in all cases – via infrared or using Wi-Fi. The second option is in great demand today.

To connect to a TV on a Samsung phone or device from another manufacturer, you need to install a special program that is available in the Android Market. Let’s highlight the main options:

    • LG. For a TV from this manufacturer on a Samsung phone, you need to download and install the LG TV Remote program. When launched, it finds a TV that is installed within the connection radius, and switches with it via one of the channels. Two displays appear on the screen. On the first one, an interface is available with the ability to change channels and volume, and the author opens access to managing the application. The user moves his finger across the screen of the Samsung phone, and a pointer appears on the TV, which also moves synchronously. With the help of such software, you can not only replace the remote control, but also play games.
    • Panasonic. For these TVs, TV Remote Panasonic must be installed. After that, you can use your Samsung phone as a remote control. If you install and configure the software correctly, the smartphone can be used not only as a remote control, but also as a controller to change the sleep timer and solve other problems.

    • Philips. For such TVs, you need to install the Philips MeRemote application on your Samsung phone. After installation and entering the software, a person can select a TV, and then connect to it and use the smartphone as a remote control. The advantages of the program are a simple interface, the absence of complex menu items, quick access to various controls. An additional plus of the software is its high speed. For example, you can install an application and transfer files from your Samsung phone to your TV. In this case, the delay in file transfer does not exceed one second. For these purposes, a special SimplyShare option is used.
    • Sony. To make a remote control for a Sony TV on a Samsung phone from a smartphone, you need to install TV Side View software.
