What’s the Right Range Hood Height Above a Stove?
Determining the best range hood height involves factors such as the type of range hood, the type of cooktop and your kitchen’s layout. If you have an electric cooktop, range hoods should typically be 20–24 inches above the heat source. For gas cooktops, your range hood should be around 24–30 inches above the stove.
Range hoods are a great way to complement your cooktop or range and can help clear the air while you cook. Read this guide to help you determine a range hood height that works well with your kitchen layout and provides you optimal venting while you cook.
Height of range hood above gas stove
For gas cooktops, it is typically recommended that the range hood be installed 24–30 inches above the stove. For proper ventilation above your gas cooktop or range, consult your owner’s manual and install your range hood at the recommended height.
Installing your range hood at the proper height helps circulate the air and remove grease and odors most effectively.
Range hood height above electric stove
With an electric range or cooktop, there is typically less heat, grease and smoke involved in cooking, so a range hood can be installed at the same height as the gas range hoods or lower. If you have an electric cooktop, your range hood should be installed 20–24 inches above the heat source.
Be sure to consult your owner’s manual and install your range hood at the recommended height for your model and type of cooktop.
How high should a vent hood be above an induction cooktop?
If you have an induction cooktop, your range hood should be installed 30-36 inches above the heat source. Although cooking on an induction cooktop typically releases less heat into the environment than other cooktops or ranges, ventilation is still beneficial.
Does the type of vent hood matter for height above the range?
The type of range hood you have and its CFM (cubic feet per minute) capabilities can also help determine the ideal installation height. If the range hood has a high CFM capability, then it may be able to be installed higher up and vice versa.
Aside from CFM capabilities, the most important factor in determining your range hood height is the type of cooktop you have and the recommendations from the product manufacturer.
What if I don’t have enough range hood clearance above the stove?
If your range hood is properly installed at the correct height, it can ventilate your kitchen space optimally and provide proper air circulation. If it is installed too low, it can damage the range hood and make it difficult to utilize your kitchen space for cooking.
A downdraft range or cooktop is an option to consider if you don’t have enough space or the right layout for an overhead hood. A downdraft range or cooktop integrates the ventilation system into the cooking surface, eliminating the need for an overhead vent. A retractable unit—sometimes called a downdraft range hood—is another form of downdraft ventilation that rises from near the cooking surface when in use.
Can a range hood be too high above a stovetop?
No matter which type of range you have, there should be no more than 36 inches between the cooktop’s surface and the start of the range hood. Installing a range hood too high above a stovetop will decrease ventilation capabilities.

In our section of kitchen range hoods, fans and filters, you’ll find many different styles and designs. Read on to get some quick tips on how to choose the right range hood for your kitchen.
Which kitchen range hood should I choose?
Range hoods come in wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, and built-in varieties. Which one to choose depends on the layout of your kitchen and which style you prefer.
Wall mounted range hoods
A wall mounted range hood is perfect if you have your stove placed somewhere along the kitchen wall.
Aside from ventilating, the range hood will also be an important part of your kitchen interior. A model with curved glass creates a light and airy impression. A model with clean and straight lines goes perfect for a modern and minimalistic kitchen. A model with a more soft and round design will be perfect if you have a more traditional taste.
Built-in range hoods
With a built-in range hood, you’ll get a neat and tidy kitchen environment. The range hood will be placed behind cupboard or cabinet doors as an integrated part of your kitchen environment. Choose kitchen cabinet doors that match the rest of your kitchen and create a seamless, uniform look.
Range hoods for kitchen islands
Are you planning to create a kitchen island? With a kitchen island you’ll get a new dynamic in the kitchen by placing the cooking activities more in the center of the room. For this kind of layout, we recommend one of our ceiling-mounted range hoods.

What extraction rate do I need?
If your range hood doesn’t have a high enough extraction rate for the size of your kitchen, it will take much longer to clear the cooking smell. We therefore recommend you choose a range hood with an extraction rate that will filter the air in your kitchen around 10 times per hour.
How much air the cooker hood processes per hour is defined with m³/h. To get an indication, start by working out the volume of your kitchen (length x width x height). Then divide the extraction rate with the volume of your kitchen. The result will show how many times per hour the range hood will be able to filter the air in your kitchen.
A faucet above the stove in the kitchen – why is it needed and how to fit it into the interior
A faucet for pouring water over the stove (Pot Filler) is often found in shooting American projects. With its help, it is convenient to fill the pan without removing it from the hob. Hinges allow you to turn the spout towards the desired burner. And when the faucet is not needed, it folds compactly and does not interfere with cooking.

For spacious kitchens
It would seem that a tap for pouring water over the stove is needed so as not to “wind” kilometers to the sink. That is, only for the kitchens of country houses and very spacious apartments. But in American projects, quite often such models fall into the frame along with an ordinary sink – just a meter from the stove.
Proof: watch a few frames further or type Pot Filler in the Houzz search bar (next to the logo) – you will get another 20 thousand photos with examples.
It turns out that the faucet is installed over the stove not only because of the unwillingness to carry pots far away. Why else?

+ Clean bottom
Filling the container in the sink, you unwittingly stain the bottom of the pan – the traces gradually turn into soot, which the dishwasher no longer “takes”. If you fill the container directly on the stove, there will be no carbon deposits on the bottom.
+ Artesian water
The tap above the stove is handy when it comes to connecting filtered water. For example, from our own artesian well.
+ Cost of heating
When boiling water (on a gas burner) is cheaper than pouring hot water from the tap (electric water heater), the kettle has to be boiled dozens of times a day – it is convenient to fill it with water directly on the stove.

Popular objections
1. The faucet will get dirty with grease. In fact, it is no stronger than the tile next door, but polished metal is much easier to clean.
2. There is no sewerage, where will the water go if the tap floods the stove? There, where the soup or milk “runs away” on the stove – they will have to be collected with a rag by hand.
Indeed, there is a great risk of putting a pot or kettle on to be filled and being distracted by one’s business. The worst thing that will happen in the sink is that the water will simply drain into the sewer. If you’ve noticed a habit of “forgetting” a filling pot in the sink, think twice about hanging a faucet over the stove.

By the way: this is not a faucet. Models are distinguished only by the installation method.
► Tabletop Pot Filler
Can be installed in an existing kitchen – no repairs required. Sufficiently flexible eyeliner.

► Wall mounted Pot Filler for pouring over the stove
Intended to be installed before the backsplash is laid, and therefore only possible during the overhaul of the kitchen.
Pot Filler is usually installed in combination with a tile backsplash. If integrated storage systems such as a “working apron” are located on the apron, the wall-mounted version of the crane can no longer be mounted, you need a desktop one.

Who sells in Russia
Google those who specialize in plumbing from the USA. The most famous brands are Kohler, Delta.

Crane over the stove: what is it for

For Russian housing, a tap for pouring water, installed directly above the stove, is exotic. At the same time, in American design projects, such a solution is quite common.
With this tap, for example, you can fill a pot standing right on the stove. The spout rotates so that the jet reaches the dishes standing on any of the burners. And so that it does not interfere with the cooking process, this accessory folds compactly.
Available in desktop and wall mounting models. The first ones can be mounted on kitchen with ready-made finishes. The installation of the wall variant will have to be planned at the repair stage, before the installation of the wall covering.
This detail is undoubtedly interesting. But is it needed, and if so, why? Let’s try to figure it out.
What a faucet above the stove does:
- Saves time. If the kitchen has a large area, the hostess has to “wind” more than a dozen meters, plying from the stove to the sink and back. The ability to fill the pot right on the stove makes it easier and saves minutes.
- Saves energy when washing dishes. Having such a device, you will not put the pan in the sink, which means that water, food debris and other contaminants will not get to the bottom. As a result, deposits do not form on the bottoms, which are so difficult to remove.
- Saves money. If the kitchen has a gas stove and the water is heated by an electric heater, it is cheaper not to fill the pot with hot water, but to use such a tap with cold water.
- Protects health. If the liquid in the faucet comes from our own artesian well or after careful filtration, only clean, healthy water is used for cooking.
Not without its drawbacks
Unfortunately, this handy tool also has a few drawbacks to keep in mind:
- The faucet will have to be cleaned of grease as often as the surface of the stove.
- This design does not include a drain. Those. if water spills past the pan, it will have to be removed manually, as well as “escaped” soup or milk.
