A Practical List of Laser Printers with Cheapest Toner
Posted by Rob Errera on 12/28/2021
When it comes to printing, for some the economics takes precedence over functionality or style.
Sometimes you’re looking for the biggest bang for your buck;
you’re looking for which laser printer has the cheapest toner.
Low price printers look great on paper. However, further research/calculation is often needed as
printer price is not the only factor forming your total printing costs.
Some relatively inexpensive printers may require quite expensive cartridges.
So, you want to focus on finding a laser printer with cheap toner that will save you money.
This could be
in the long run with printers that offer the cheapest cost per page. Or in the short term by finding the cheapest toner cartridges on the market.
In this blog we’ll take you through both the cheapest toner cost per page and the cheapest toner cartridge regardless of how many pages it can produce.
It is important to consider that there is a large range in the price per print out.
A cheap laser printer to run can get down to
2 cents a page (black and white).
Compare this to typical costs of around
8 cents per page for black and white and 13+ cents per page for color.
That’s a
6 and 11 cents difference per page, respectively.
And this transforms into
$60 or more for every 1000 pages.
Choosing the inexpensive printer may save money initially, but pretty soon, the price of the toner (if more expensive than expected) can add up, and you’ll be in the red, losing money
So, let’s see what cost-effective printer models are out there on the market and how exactly they can help you to save money on your printing costs.
Laser Printer with the Cheapest Toner
Interestingly, the laser printer with the cheapest toner is not a single printer, it’s a group of printers.
More specifically, these are the printers compatible with the most-cost effective toner out there – Brother TN-660 – a high-yield black toner cartridge from Brother.
The original Brother high yield TN-660 black cartridges cost $55 and provide a yield of 2,600 pages. That is a toner price of only 2.1 cents per page.

- Black
- Cyan
- Magenta
- Yellow
HP206X high yield color toner cartridges are priced at $99.95 each, or you can buy all four together for $389.
With a black cartridge yield of 3,150 pages, and color cartridge yield of 2,450 pages, the HP206X cartridge offers a great price of only 3.2 cents a page for monochrome and 12. 7 cents a page for color.
You won’t find cheaper color toner costs per page.

Cheapest Laser Printer Cartridges
The laser printers with the cheapest toner discussed above take into the page yield of the cartridges to find the best cost per page.
However, many people are just looking for the lowest cartridge price. Below is a list of the cheapest laser printer cartridges out there.
All cartridge prices are from Toner Buzz.
Buying a Laser Printer That Fits Your Needs
When buying a laser printer, you need to search around and find one that fits your needs while also having low toner costs.
A laser printer with cheap toner is great, but if it doesn’t cover all your needs, the money saved can’t help you.
Essential factors to consider include:
- How much printing do you perform? What monthly duty cycle do you need to cover your requirements?
- Do you want color printing? Or will monochrome suffice?
- How dense are your printouts? How much information do they contain, and how much toner does that require? (Keep in mind the cost per page and page yields listed above are based on 5% page coverage, roughly a third of a page of double spaced text)
- What quality and type of printout do you use? (Reducing the image resolution can reduce toner costs)
- Are you happy with a simple printer? Or do you want an All-in-One device with added functionality?
- What size and speed of printout are you planning to use?
Check out our blog on accurately calculating your printing costs once you find your chosen printer.
Compatible and Remanufactured Toner Cartridges
The information provided above is all based on OEM toner cartridges. However, there are also compatible and remanufactured toner cartridges that promise a similar performance at lower prices.
In our experience, however, choosing OEM toner cartridges is always the best option.
Compatible and remanufactured toner cartridges lead to:
- Inconsistent performance across different compatible models
- Reduced page yields
- Worse image quality
- A higher risk of malfunctioning

Tips for Reducing Toner Spend
You can find a laser printer with cheap toner that matches all your needs. But there are also tips that can increase page yield and reduce your toner costs even further.
Cartridge Tips
- Shaking the cartridge – Toner is a powder, and with time it can clump together in the cartridge.
Giving the cartridge a good shake loosens the toner within, getting a few more pages out before you get uneven or streaky printouts and have to change the cartridge.
- Unclogging the nozzle – Toner cartridge nozzles that are all clogged up produce inconsistent printouts or stop working entirely. Keeping your toner cartridge nozzles clean and in good shape leads to better performance for longer.
- Stock up – Toner lasts a long time, so when you spot an excellent deal, you can stock up without worrying about the toner going bad. As long as you store your extra cartridges properly, they will perform great long after purchasing.
Printer Setting Tips
- Print modes – You can reduce the DPI/resolution and use less toner by changing print mode. This does come at the expense of print quality, though. Modes like “draft,” “fast,” and “toner-saver” all increase page yield.
- Use grayscale – Standard printouts utilize additional toner to produce deep-toned blacks.
By changing to grayscale printouts, you can get more out of each cartridge.
- Change printout style – you can even adjust your printout style to save on toner. At Toner Buzz we recently did some tests to find which fonts are the most cost effective and use the least toner.
Summary
Whatever your requirements, you can find a laser printer with cheap toner that will save you money in the long run.
If you’re looking for a basic monochrome home printer, the laser printer with the cheapest toner would be any printer compatible with Brother TN-660. The color laser printer with the cheapest toner would be any printer compatible with HP 206x cartridges.

Laser printers used to be out of reach for most consumers because of their hefty price tags. Inkjet all-in-one printers became household and office assets due to their lower initial pricing and the fact that they printed in color. Inkjet cartridges, however, last less time than laser toner, and they aren’t precisely wallet-friendly either. And then came color laser printers that were affordable, and that changed everything. So which is the best color laser printer for under $300?
Our favorite is the Brother HL-L3270CDW. It’s a color multifunction printer that scans, prints, and copies. If you need a printer that works well with AirPrint, you want the Canon LBP622Cdw. It prints up to 22ppm with auto-duplex support for both page sides. If you outsource printing jobs to your phone or another mobile device, grab the Lexmark C3224dw. It uses a companion app to simplify the process, or you can stick to its traditional Wi-Fi support.

9 Most Economical Printers – 2023 Ranking
Having a personal printer at home is convenient. You can always print the necessary files, photos, scan documents in the case of multifunctional devices. But in addition to convenience, printers have a significant drawback – this is the high price of consumables. Our ranking contains the most economical printers in stores with the best customer reviews.

Ranking of the most economical printers
Manufacturers of printers and MFPs sell their equipment almost at cost. Because of this trick, it seems to the buyer that the price of printing files at home will be lower than when contacting a printer or other places where they can print a document. But keep in mind that the cost of home printing includes paper and ink cartridge. The cost of original consumables is unreasonably high so that equipment manufacturers receive excess profits, and the volume is significantly reduced for the purpose of frequent purchases.
There are economical printers on the market that use significantly less ink. These include models with long cartridge yields that exceed 2,000 pages. With a standard value of 600-1000 sheets, the user will be forced to constantly buy additional consumables, spending significant amounts. Also, one of the ways to save money is to buy devices with the ability to self-fill the toner cartridge. This is much cheaper than buying new toner every time it runs out.
We analyzed the types of economical printers on the market, studied customer reviews and expert reviews, and then compiled our own rating. When determining which printer is more economical, the following criteria were taken into account:

How to choose the most economical printer
The choice of equipment begins with determining the installation location – home or office. Depending on the purpose, the requirements for equipment will vary. Using the advice of our experts, you can easily choose an economical printer.
Print Technology
Modern printers can work with laser, inkjet or LED technology. Inkjet devices are distinguished by their low cost, high-quality photo printing, and the possibility of CISS. They make an impression using liquid ink, which is supplied by special heads. The ink can be pigmented or water soluble.
Each color has its own individual capacity. Not suitable for large volumes of work due to the high cost of consumables, so it is better to use at home. It is also important to ensure that the ink does not dry out due to long periods of inactivity. It should be noted that when in contact with water, the ink will spread. Exposure to ultraviolet rays is negative. They make noise while working.
Laser printers are much more expensive, but they are more economical in terms of toner refills. One capacity is designed for more than 2000 text sheets. Refills with dye independently. The principle of operation is to imprint an image using a laser beam under the influence of high temperature. Powder paint is used – toner. LEDs work on a similar principle, only LEDs are used instead of a laser. They provide an important advantage – energy savings. Both are office options.
Print speed
Fast printout criterion is not as important for home devices due to less work. For long continuous printing in the office, it is better to choose models with a speed of 20 ppm.
Print size
Standard size – up to A4, which is enough for the home. Professional devices used in printing houses, design studios, advertising agencies require a larger, often non-standard format (for example, for printing on banners, advertising posters, business cards, leaflets).
User friendly
Paint pouring should be as simple as possible. It is good if the device has transparent windows through which the user can observe the amount of toner inside the container. An important criterion is the volume of the paper feed tray. On some photo printers, this can be increased by installing a larger capacity tray. The more sheets fit, the less the user will need to add it.
Additional criteria
Equipment is selected, among other things, by the company that produces it. Many brands are engaged in the production of printers, offering office equipment, laptops. The most famous are:
- A Japanese company specializing in MFPs. Devices differ in functionality, compactness, reliability, long service life. There are models from any price segment.
- Offers laser, inkjet, MFP. Provides quality prints at an affordable price.
- Well-known American brand producing copiers. Launches printers with large tray, high speed, stylish unique design
- A lesser known Japanese company offering quality products at low prices. Has a long service life.
- One of the most economical brands of computer equipment due to its improved design and constant modernization.
Differs in durability.
When choosing the most economical printer for supplies, consider the following:
- The type of paper to print on. You also need to look at the criteria for sheet density. Glossy, matte types of sheets, special photo paper, film, envelopes are used.
- Noise. Home should take devices that almost do not make noise.
- Color or monochrome. If you want to print only text documents, it is better to choose a device for bw. Also, a monochrome printer uses less ink.
- Dimensions. You need to choose in advance the place where the photo printer will be installed.
- Duplex or 2-sided printing available. The device automatically prints on both sides of the paper without any additional settings on the part of the user.
- Availability of scanner and copier. These are MFPs that allow you to copy documents, create scans of files. Buying an MFP is then more profitable in terms of space occupied.
- The presence of a wireless connection to a smartphone, tablet, laptop.
- Supported types of operating systems.
What is the best economical printer
The selection of the most economical color or b/w printer includes several important criteria, which include the speed of work, the volume of cartridges, the maximum allowable format, and the type of printing. Depending on the technology by which the device prints, the following models can be distinguished:
- For laser printing, the best option is Kyocera Ecosys P2335dn with better ink consumption, easy connection, high speed;
- From the segment of inkjet products, the best choice is the Canon Pixma G1411 with CISS, high-quality printing, quiet operation;
- One of the best LED printer is OKI C612n with excellent functionality, low power consumption;
- For advertising agencies, design studios, large printing houses, the LED Xerox VersaLink C9000DT with the best detail is suitable;
- It is better to choose Ricoh M C250FW from MFP with high print speed, work via phones, tablets
The products presented in the rating were evaluated not only by our experts, but also by real buyers.
Best value printer for home supplies | KUPIMTONER.COM
The printer is used not only for work in the office, but also at home. Lawyers, accountants, managers, economists, teachers and all those whose work is related to documents have personal office equipment at home. Given that the volume of printer use in this case is not the same as in the office, the main criterion for choosing a model for the buyer will be cost-effectiveness.
At the same time, it does not consist in the cost of the model itself, but in how much they cost and how often consumables are purchased for it. When using a printer at home or in the office, it is consumables that represent the main cost item. The selection includes laser printers, which are used for text format, and inkjet models for high-quality photos and booklets.
Most Economical Laser Printers
Models in this category use laser technology. The laser beam illuminates the photocells and thus the information is transferred to the paper. These models work faster, with more economical toner consumption during the printing process. At the same time, the quality of color photo printing is significantly inferior to inkjet devices.
Kyocera Ecosys P2335dn
The main advantage of this model is the speed of printing: it produces up to 35 pages of black and white text per minute. The device has a modular structure, so you can expand its functionality by adding (connecting) additional devices to it.
