1. Press the Windows + S keys on the second PC, type recovery drive, and select Create a recovery drive.
2. Check the Backup system files in the recovery drive option box, then click the Next button.
3. Select a USB flash drive connected to your PC from the list and click Next.
4. Note that you don’t create a Windows recovery disk with other data, so ensure the drive is formatted before use.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to create the Recovery drive.
6. Unplug the drive from the second PC and insert it into the HP desktop. Then, press the Power button to start the HP desktop, then wait for it to detect the USB drive.
7. Select Use a device from the options.

Remote Desktop in operating systems of the Windows family is a very powerful tool for remote computer control. Remote Desktop or RDP has been introduced into the Microsoft family of operating systems since the days of Windows NT 4.0. At the moment, the latest version of RDP built into Windows has serial number 10, like the new operating system itself. In this article, we will take a closer look at connecting to a remote machine via the RDP protocol from various operating systems. For our example, we took a computer based on the Windows XP operating system. We will connect to it via the RDP protocol from computers running Windows 7, 10 and Ubuntu. In these examples, all RDP connections will be local , that is, within the local network. First, we will look at an example of connecting to Windows 10 . To do this, open the application itself in Windows 10 « Remote Desktop Connection “.

On the General tab, in order to access the XP computer in the Computer column, you must enter the address of the remote PC. In our case, the address is “ 192.168.0.183 “. Next, enter the username “ User ” and the user’s password. The address of the remote XP computer can be found in the network connection settings.

It is also worth adding that before connecting to a remote PC, in the properties of the computer in Windows XP, check the box “ Desktop remote control ” as shown below. This is necessary in order to allow you to connect to it.

If all the data is entered correctly, you can connect using the Connect button. By clicking this button, the RDP client will take us to the password entry window for further access to Windows XP.

Let’s now move on to using Remote Desktop on a computer running Ubuntu . For example, we will use the latest version of Ubuntu with serial number 16.04. On Ubuntu 16.04, the RDP client is named Remmina . Below is a window with an open program. To access a remote PC in Ubuntu, you need to click the Create button in the Remmina top bar.

After this action, a window will appear in which you need to enter the settings of the remote machine from XP.

Direct access via RDP over the Internet

In the previous examples, we have considered options for connecting to a remote machine via a local network. Now we will look at the Internet connection option . In order to connect through the protocol in question, you need a white IP.

White IP is the IP address of your computer, which is accessible from any PC connected to the Internet. This address can be provided by your ISP for a fee. It is also worth mentioning the gray IP. The gray IP is the address of the computer that is assigned to internal LANs. If the user has such an IP address, he gets access to the Internet through NAT, Proxy and SOCKS, so there is no direct access to this computer from the outside.

If the remote PC has a white IP, then you can safely drive in this address in the RDP client settings and connect to the remote computer from another PC. This connection will only work if the remote PC is connected directly to the ISP. That is, the provider’s cable is connected to the network card. If the PC is connected via, for example, a Wi-Fi router, then you will not be able to connect. In this case, you need to do port forwarding on the router.

Port forwarding through the router is required to allow outside access to the internal NAT network.

The router creates a local network, to which, for example, a tablet, laptop and desktop computer are connected. Each device is assigned a local IP address in a NAT network. To give direct access via the Internet to a laptop or desktop computer, you need to do port forwarding on the router.

Below we will consider an example of port forwarding on a D-Link DIR-615/K router.

First of all, go to the web interface of the router and go to the page “ Firewall/Virtual Servers “. This is done through the browser.
