While on the phone, an incoming call to another number will be answered by an answering machine if your operator has configured this feature ⁴ . However, you will not receive a missed call notification from the second number. The standby mode works for incoming calls to the same phone number. In order not to miss an important call, you can turn on call forwarding and forward all calls from one number to another. Check with your carrier to see if this service is supported and if there are additional charges.

Switching numbers for making calls

You can switch phone numbers before making a call. If you are contacting someone on your favorites list, follow these steps.

Press the information button.
Select the current phone number.
Select the second number.

If you are using a keyboard, follow these steps.

Enter a phone number.
Select the phone number near the top of the screen.
Select the number you want to use.

iMessage, SMS, and MMS messaging

iMessage, SMS, and MMS messages can be sent from any of the ⁵ numbers. The number can be selected before or after the call starts. Here’s how to use this feature.

Select a number before sending an iMessage, SMS, or MMS

Open Messages.
Click the “New” button in the upper right corner of the screen.
Enter the name of the contact.
Select the current phone number.
Select the number you want to use.

Switching numbers during a call

Touch the number in use at the top of the screen.
Select the number you want to use.

The icons in the status bar at the top of the screen show the signal strength of both operators. Learn what the status icons mean.

Opening the Control Center will display more status icons.

When using carrier 1, the second number will display “No network”.

The status bar shows that the device is connected to Wi-Fi and the service provider 2 is using Wi-Fi Calling.

When Cellular Data Toggle is enabled, the status bar shows that Carrier 1 is using a 5G connection and Carrier 2 is using Carrier 1’s cellular data and has Wi-Fi calling enabled.

Change cellular data number

Cellular data cannot use two numbers at the same time. To change the number used for cellular data, follow these steps:

Go to the “Settings” menu.
Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
Press Cellular Data.
Select the number you want to use for cellular data.

If Cellular Data Switching is checked, when you make a voice call to a voice-only number, that number automatically switches to voice and data mode ⁶ . This allows you to use voice and data communications during a call.

If Cellular Data Toggle is unchecked and you are on a call to a number that is used for voice but not for cellular data, data will not be transmitted during the call.

To select the Switch Cellular Data checkbox, do the following:

Go to the “Settings” menu.
Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
Press Cellular Data.
Select the Cellular Data Toggle check box.

Manage your cellular settings

To change your cellular settings for each service plan, follow these steps:

Go to the “Settings” menu.
Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
Select the number to be changed.
Select parameters one by one and change them as usual.
