Audio gear

A sound upgrade for couch gamers

Photo: JBL

People who enjoy playing games on a TV and want to hear rich, enveloping sound without having to wear a headset will appreciate a speaker upgrade that won’t break the bank. The JBL Bar 2.1 Deep Bass is the best soundbar you can get for under $400 (and often much lower). It has clearer voice reproduction and deeper bass than any of the other sub-$400 models we’ve tested, and though it’s only a 2.1-channel system, it produces impressive wraparound audio that feels surprisingly close to surround sound. It also keeps things simple with a remote that allows for only subwoofer adjustment, which we think is just the right amount of control.

Immersive sound

Photo: Rozette Rago

A great headset can make all the difference for gaming, offering the player a deeper level of immersion than basic speakers. Gaming headsets can also enhance voice chat and online gaming, eliminating some of the pitfalls and mediocrity of cheap earbuds or headphones. The HyperX Cloud Alpha has been one of the most comfortable headsets we’ve tested for multiple years in a row, and this set also produces some of the best sound quality we’ve heard for the price. And thanks to the Cloud Alpha’s 0.125-inch headphone adapter, this headset works with any game console or computer.

Storage

Game space for a Nintendo Switch

Photo: Rozette Rago

When you download games on a Nintendo Switch, the built-in 32 GB storage can fill up pretty quickly (some individual titles take up even more space than the internal capacity). The Switch player in your life will probably need to store more games at once, making the 128 GB SanDisk microSDXC Card a welcome gift, even if it’s not the flashiest of the accessories we recommend. It’s speedy when saving or loading games, and it’s one of the most cost-effective cards you can buy. If you’re feeling generous, SanDisk also sells a 256 GB version for double the storage.

The best option for external storage

Photo: Sarah Kobos

To add storage for more games on an Xbox, PlayStation, or PC, we recommend the Western Digital My Passport SSD. Xbox One and PS4 games are playable directly from an external SSD (or hard drive), but Xbox Series X|S and PS5 games can only be stored there—be prepared to transfer those games back to your console to play them. The My Passport is a fast and reliable drive, and Western Digital backs it with a five-year warranty. The drive is also compact enough to squeeze into almost any nook in a crowded entertainment center.

Better controls

A controller for mobile gaming

Photo: Backbone

The Backbone One is a controller that wraps around an iPhone, turning it into a portable game console that’s as comfortable to hold as any PlayStation or Xbox controller. It’s a great option for anyone who is always playing games on their phone. It features all the typical buttons you can find on any modern controller, as well as buttons for recording game play and launching the free Backbone app, which offers a unified way to open all your mobile games. The Backbone controller connects to iPhones through the Lightning port, so there’s no need to connect to Bluetooth, though the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max do require a special adapter, which ships free when you order (or, if you have a 3D printer, you can create it at home).

Make their console controllers rechargeable

Photo: PowerA

Xbox owners and PC players who use Xbox controllers will appreciate never having to open yet another drawer just to find all their AAs missing, thanks to PowerA’s Dual Charging Station. The pack comes bundled with a charger cradle for two controllers and two battery packs, and it’s a far less wasteful and longer-lasting option compared with single-use batteries (though you can buy standard rechargeable batteries, as well).

A heroic gaming mouse

Photo: Michael Murtaugh

A gaming mouse offers faster response times, ergonomic and customizable buttons, and better precision, making it a great gift for anyone who spends a lot of time playing on a PC. We love the Razer Basilisk V3, and we recommend it in our guide to the best gaming mice because it’s comfortable for most hand sizes and grip styles, and it offers plenty of buttons and excellent build quality. It also has lighting underneath, on the scroll wheel, and on the Razer logo that can be synced to match different dynamic colors in-game or simply customized to suit anyone’s color preference.

Fantastic and flashy keyboard

Photo: HyperX

For gamers who haven’t yet invested in a good gaming keyboard, an upgrade will let them take advantage of customizable backlighting, a more-ergonomic design, and macro keys that they can program to carry out any keystroke sequence with the push of a single button. We like the HyperX Alloy Origins Core for its tenkeyless design (which allows for mouse placement closer to the body, reducing shoulder, neck, and back strain), as well as for its dedicated media buttons, including volume and mic mute keys. We also like its vibrant backlights, which your gift recipient can customize with simple software.

Excellent desktop sound

Photo: Sarah Kobos

When it comes to game immersion, it’s not just about the graphics. Modern games have cinematic sound design, but many people have speakers or headphones that don’t do it justice. If it’s time to upgrade, the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX is our favorite set of computer speakers that includes a subwoofer. The speakers have a small on-desk footprint, and the subwoofer effectively adds more bass, which can give a little more oomph to video game effects.

A custom controller for any preference

Photo: Haley Perry

If you know someone who uses an Xbox controller for Xbox or PC gaming, you can tailor a controller to match the color scheme of their cherished sports team, their favorite video game, or even their desk setup through the Xbox Design Lab. You can customize almost every part of the controller’s appearance, with options for different colors, finishes, and patterns on its body and buttons. The website’s design tool is easy to use and a ton of fun, too.

For family gaming

Image: Game Freak/Nintendo

Pokémon Legends: Arceus for Nintendo Switch ($45 at the time of publication)

We like Pokémon Legends: Arceus because it takes the beloved creature-catching formula and sets it in a time before the modern era of Pokémon games. The result is something closer to a true open-world game, with an intriguing prehistoric and dangerous feel.

A legendary co-op game

Image: Tribute Games/Dotemu

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox ($25 at the time of publication; also on Game Pass)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of the most popular arcade games of its time when it came out nearly three decades ago, and Shredder’s Revenge, the newest iteration, keeps the classic art style and gameplay mechanics. It’s one of the best arcade beat-’em-up games you can play right now, and it features seamless co-op gameplay for those who like to team up with friends.

A challenging game in a beautiful fantasy world

Image: Bandai Namco

Elden Ring for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox ($60 at the time of publication)

Those who appreciate the fantasy genre and dark world-building of George R.R. Martin may enjoy Elden Ring, which was an early contender for the best game of 2022. It’s a difficult game with little direction to follow, and it’s not for the faint of heart—only those who fancy a challenge should attempt a playthrough. But those with patience will find the world absorbing to get lost in.

One of the best kid-friendly shooting games

Image: Nintendo

Splatoon 3 for Nintendo Switch ($55 at the time of publication)

Splatoon is one of our favorite kid-friendly shooting games because it offers a fun, nonviolent alternative take on multiplayer shooters where you shoot and spray other players with paint rather than bullets. The most recent installment, Splatoon 3, is the most refined and expansive version yet, with more solo and cooperative options than in both of the games before it.

One of the best games of all time, remade

Image: Naughty Dog/Sony

The Last of Us Part 1 for PlayStation 5 ($70 at the time of publication)

The Last of Us was already a masterpiece, but it’s even better now that it has been remade with the improved technology that powered 2020’s game of the year The Last of Us Part 2. Established fans and newcomers alike will appreciate the chance to play The Last of Us Part 1 on their PlayStation 5, as this edition enhances the visuals, integrates the DualSense controller’s haptic capabilities, and expands its accessibility options. The whole experience feels modern all over again, and it’s shipping just in time for folks to play it before HBO’s upcoming series.

Subscriptions

For Xbox and PC players

Photo: Xbox

Xbox and PC players alike will light up when you give them an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, which grants access to a growing library of games on console and PC and provides deals and discounts on certain titles, free monthly games, and multiplayer capabilities on Xbox consoles. (Yes, it’s like Netflix for video games.) This has been a big year for Game Pass proving its worth, with huge releases including Psychonauts 2, Hades, Back 4 Blood, Forza Horizon 5, and Halo Infinite all hitting the service since August. Game Pass Ultimate also allows players to stream more than 100 games to their Android phones or tablets, and it includes an EA Play subscription. And if it turns out that your gift recipient already has a subscription, they can add the gifted months to their current account.

For PlayStation owners

Photo: PlayStation

Nearly any PlayStation gamer will appreciate a membership to PlayStation Plus for its access to online gaming across all games on the platform—an essential for multiplayer titles such as Destiny 2, Fortnite, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Every month, PlayStation gives away two different games for free to Plus members, and it offers extra discounts on certain games purchased in the digital store. And if your gift recipient already has a subscription, they can add your gift to it. You can also give the subscription in one-month and 12-month increments.

For Switch gamers

Photo: Nintendo

Nintendo Switch Online is required if you want to play Animal Crossing, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros., and more with friends. It also has a growing collection of classic NES and Super NES games, which is great for those who want to relive their old-school Nintendo days with titles like Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. For those who want to try it out on a shorter basis, a three-month subscription is available, too.

Miscellaneous gifts that gamers will appreciate

A novel video game vinyl

Photo: Turntable Lab

You can find a range of video game soundtracks on vinyl from Turntable Lab, and they make unique gifts for gamers who also treasure their record collections. This particular pressing of the music from Pokémon Gold & Silver doesn’t feature the direct soundtrack from the games but rather a stunning orchestral arrangement. The half-black, half-white vinyl and the elegant outer sleeve are pretty enough to double as a piece of artwork for people who like to display their records, but Turntable Lab also has a lot of other fun and colorful options to choose from— some of our favorites include the Doom soundtrack pressed on blood-red vinyl and the marbled purple and orange pressings of the Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart soundtrack.

For the crafty gamer

Photo: Fangamer

Stardew Valley is a wildly popular farming game—and one of our favorite games to relax with—and there’s a good chance you already know someone who’s hooked on it. For the person on your list who likes to keep their hands busy when they’re not gaming, this beginner’s cross-stitch kit comes with 25 different Stardew Valley patterns featuring adorable creatures and icons from the game. It also includes cloth to sew on, embroidery needles, and all the matching threads necessary to bring the pixelated patterns to life.

Retro gaming

For the arcade gamer with a Switch

Photo: Fangamer

Those who frequently play arcade games on their Switch—such as Pac-Man in Namco Museum or Donkey Kong from the Nintendo Switch Online library—will appreciate the ability to enjoy the classics the way they were intended for original arcade cabinets. The Flip Grip allows players to reorient their Switch tablet so that the screen is taller than it is wide, without sacrificing any space on the tablet’s display. It’s a simple accessory that slides right onto the Switch, making it easy for players to set up and hold. Not all games are compatible with the portrait-style orientation, but you can find a list of flippable games on the Does It Flip? website. A quick warning: The existing version does not work with Nintendo’s new Switch OLED Model (and it doesn’t work with the Switch Lite, either).

A classic ornament for their tree

Photo: Hallmark

A few of Hallmark’s video-game (and sci-fi) ornaments caught our eye this year. The collection skews retro, with a handful of Mario characters and even some Sonic the Hedgehog ornaments, but the lineup also has a few other options—like Pokémon, Minecraft, and Fortnite—for a younger appeal. They offer a fun chance to get away from the standard Christmas themes, and Hallmark also covers some related sci-fi ground with Star Trek and Stranger Things ornaments and collectibles. You’ll almost certainly find something for the fan you’re shopping for (even if that happens to be you).

For DIY-ers

Build your own console

Photo: Andrew Cunningham

Gaming consoles will remain nearly impossible to find this year, so why not build your own? You can do so with a Raspberry Pi, a cheap computer that’s about the size of a deck of cards. With a little technical know-how and about an hour’s worth of time, you can turn the Raspberry Pi into a capable little game console, a project that’s perfect for DIY-ers, tinkerers, or anyone who doesn’t mind futzing about with different settings.

Help them keep what they have

Photo: Doug Mahoney

Once again, pretty much all electronics are tough to find this year, which is a great excuse to repair the consoles you already own. But in order to do so, you often need special tools. If you know someone who will take care of and fix their own gear, we recommend the iFixit Mako Driver Kit, which provides all the bit drivers necessary to repair modern electronics. If you can spend a little more, the iFixit Pro Tech Toolkit packs in even more helpful tools, such as spudgers to safely pry away cables and a handy opening pick to separate cases. For someone new to repair, iFixit has guides for repairing every major game console, including repairing the infamous Switch Joy-Con controllers. Some projects are more complex than others, but one of the easiest tasks is to do a battery swap for an old controller (Switch Pro, DualShock 4, DualShock 3), which can extend the life of the controller so you don’t have to buy a new one.

We love finding gifts that are unusual, thoughtful, and well vetted. See even more gift ideas we recommend.

With Father’s Day just around the corner, it’d be mighty useful for there to be a list of the best gifts for gamers. And as it just so happens… well, here we are.

Although hunting down a suitable present can be difficult because there’s so much choice (particularly if you aren’t a gamer yourself), the flip-side is that you’ve got lots of options. And fortunately enough, the best gaming gifts aren’t limited to tat and pun-ny mugs. There’s a whole host of high-quality, low-price gifts out there from accessories to merchandise. The trick? Knowing where to look. That’s where we come in. To get the ball rolling, we’ve scooped up some recommendations that span cheap and cheerful novelties to more premium presents. Seeing as that includes gifts for gamers on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, PC, and tabletop, there should be something suitable for almost everyone below.

We’ve been sure to include options for every budget as well, so don’t worry about breaking the bank to get a decent present – you don’t need to spend a fortune to secure the best gifts for gamers.

Best gifts for gamers overall

1. I Paused My Game t-shirt

The best t-shirt gift for gamers

+ Generic enough to suit anyone
+ Available in multiple fits and sizes
Not very personal

‘Gamer’ t-shirts are often naff and tacky, but this one breaks the trend with what is actually a cool design. Available in multiple sizes for men, women, and kids (not to mention multiple color options), this is the perfect gift for gamers of any age. It’s generic enough that you don’t have to worry about what the recipient plays, either.

2. PlayStation Icons light

The best PS5 gift for gamers

+ Eye-catching and atmospheric
+ Classy design
Adaptor plug not included

Paladone is one of the biggest names in giftware, and its PlayStation Icons light is an example of why. This fun curiosity brings the console’s iconic symbols to life with an atmospheric glow, and that eye-catching yet simple design will really enhance the recipient’s setup.

3. Xbox Icons Light

The best Xbox gift for gamers

+ Atmospheric
+ Won’t take up loads of space
Doesn’t come in green

There’s also an Xbox version of the PlayStation lights we mentioned earlier, and it’s the ideal gift for gamers who play on Microsoft’s console. As well as being well-made official merch, it looks as if it’s been pulled from straight from a Twitch streamer’s studio.

4. Mushroom Light

The best gift for Nintendo gamers

+ Iconic design
+
Atmospheric
Relatively small

Nothing says ‘Nintendo’ more than Super Mario, and one of the most iconic things from that series is its oversized mushroom power-up. That’s why getting a novelty light version to sit on the recipient’s desk, shelf, or coffee table makes such a decent gift for gamers. Its soft glow sets a really atmospheric mood that’s ideal for an evening of gaming.

5. Blood, Sweat, and Pixels

The best book for gamers

+ Covers big-name games
+ Intriguing insights
Might not appeal to more casual gamers

Besides being a well-known games journalist and reporter, Jason Schreier is famous for shining a spotlight on industry issues… and he puts that know-how to good use with this tome detailing the development process behind beloved games like Dragon Age or Destiny. It’s a fascinating peek behind the curtain.

6. Numskull gaming locker

The best practical gift for gamers

+ Neat and tidy
+ Themed versions available
Needs more space for games

If you’re looking to get a more practical gift for gamers, this locker from Numskull is a great shout. Along with storage space for a few games, it can hold controllers and headsets as well. Seeing as it keeps the recipient’s gear neatly packed away in one place, this is also a good way of keeping your setup tidy and organized.

7. PlayStation Store Gift Card

The best last-minute gift for PlayStation gamers

+ Delivered instantly
+ Recipient can choose
– Impersonal

Credit for the PS4 and PS5 Store is a great gift idea thanks to the huge choice of games available on this official marketplace. In the USA, Amazon is the best place to buy cards even though there are no discounts (it’s easy and reliable). As for the UK, CDKeys is often a better bet; many offers are actually discounted.

8. Xbox Store Gift Card

The best last-minute Xbox gift for gamers

+ Instant delivery
+ Recipient can choose
A bit impersonal

Not sure what to buy a loved one? If they have an Xbox, it’s worth considering this Gift Card. It allows players to get whatever they want on the official Xbox Store, helping you avoid any disappointment if they already own the present you bought. It’s simple, but effective.

9. Nintendo eShop Gift Card

The best last-minute Nintendo gift for gamers

+ Delivered right away
+ Gives recipient choice
Quite impersonal

If the gamer in your life has a Nintendo Switch and you’d rather let them decide what they want rather than trying to find something you aren’t sure they’ll like, you can always get them an eShop card. This gives credit to use on the official Nintendo eStore, and prices range from $5 to $99.

Gaming gifts – under $20 / £20

Want to keep costs down without skimping on cool gifts for gamers? The following options sit at the affordable end of the scale, and they range from fun curiosities to genuinely useful gear.

1. PlayStation playing cards & tin

+ Fun twist on playing cards
+
Console tin
Need to like card games

If you want to get a good but cheap gift for the PlayStation gamer in your life, this is a really fun novelty option that should go down well. It replaces the deck’s normal suites with PlayStation controller icons (square, triangle, circle, and cross) and also comes in a snazzy tin based on the original PS1.

2. Xbox Heat-Changing Mug

+ Subtle but stylish
+ Affordable
Pattern flakes off easily

Alright, so a lot of gamer mugs are clatteringly rubbish. But there are a few diamonds out there that make for thoughtful, endearing gifts. This Xbox option in particular is a real gem, especially because the color changes to Microsoft green when hot water is added. It’s classy, straightforward, and clever – one of the better gifts for gamers, in other words.

3. PS5 Heat-Changing Mug

+ Striking design
+ Heat-change is neat
Pattern chips away easily

Not sure what to get someone, but know they have a PlayStation? This is probably the best ‘playing it safe’ present on offer. A sleek and minimalist mug that displays the PS5 symbols when filled with coffee, tea, or hot chocolate it’s a cool tip of the hat to the console while also being practical. Perhaps they can use it to fuel their next late-night gaming session.

4. Lego Minecraft: The Creeper Ambush

+ Iconic characters
+ Really affordable
– Small

Looking for something cheap and cheerful for the Minecraft fan in your life? This is a really cool novelty that offers a slice of the video game for display or as a toy, making it perfect for all ages. It brings together the most iconic parts of the franchise too, so it’s one of the best kits in terms of gifts for gamers.

5. Fortnite toys (4in)

+ Generally cheap
+ Lots of accessories
– Small

Buying for a Fortnite fan? Even though they’re inexpensive (for the most part, anyway), these toys are of a surprisingly high quality. Boasting more than 20 points of articulation and plenty of accessories, they’re cool presents regardless of whether they’ll be going in a toybox or sitting on a desk.

6. Choose Your Weapon t-shirt

+ Available in lots of colors
+ Retro designs
– Hard to get in the UK

Keen to get a gift for gamers that’s more than a five-minute novelty? This t-shirt is a fun, nostalgia-filled present the recipient should get plenty of use out of. Just double-check the sizing before hitting checkout – it’s unclear what kind of fit it has.

7. Mario Heat Change Mug

+ Brilliantly retro
+ Nostlagic
– Hard to find in the UK

This ode to the original Super Mario Bros. games is the perfect gift for gamers who either grew up with the plumber or adore the franchise. The fact that the design changes color when hot water is added is the cherry on the cake. Not for you? Don’t worry, there are plenty of gamer mugs at Amazon to check out instead.

8. Super Mario plush

+ Very cute
+ Lots of personality
– Quite small

If in doubt, go for a Super Mario plushie. For Nintendo fans, this esteemed mascot is likely to be behind many of their fondest memories, so a soft toy version of the hero will always go down well with gamers.

9. Glow in the Dark dice

+ Cool novelty, but also practical
+ Sturdy metal design
May mark wooden tables

Here’s another great gift for D&D gamers; dice. Speaking from experience, players can never have enough of these… and the fact that this particular set can glow in the dark makes them one of the cooler novelty presents on this list. A must-have.

10. D&D plushies

+ Lots of fun designs
+ Adorable
Can be hard to find

These soft toys are adorable takes on D&D’s best-known monsters, so they’re ideal gifts for gamers who like to play Dungeons and Dragons. We’ve been hands-on with the first wave and can vouch for them as desk buddies, and their quality impressed us.

11. PlayStation coasters

+ Classy design
+ Subtle fan-service
A bit boring

This is a simple but awesome gift for gamers; besides looking great thanks to that PS5 color-scheme with the PlayStation symbols in a snazzy metallic style, these coasters are also practical. They’ll look great on any desk or coffee table.

12. PlayStation controller mug

+ Novelty design
+ Controller handle
Impractical

This light-hearted novelty gift is spot-on for the avid PlayStation gamer; while its handle may not be entirely practical, it’s a lot of fun.  Just make sure they handwash it after use, though – mugs like this don’t play well with dishwashers.

13. Gameboy Heat Changing mug

Holds 10oz
Officially licensed
– Not dishwasher safe

This nostalgic coffee mug is a great choice if you’re hunting down retro gifts for gamers. Plus, the ‘screen’ activates when hot water is added, displaying a scene from Super Mario Land. It’s a very cool party trick – metaphorically, at least.

14. PlayStation Tumbler

+ Practical
+ Classy design
– Not dishwasher safe

Here’s another surprisingly classy but cheap gift for gamers: a sleek, minimalist PlayStation 5 tumbler. With a frosted white pattern featuring the famous square, cross, triangle, and circle buttons from the PlayStation controllers, it’s a cool tip of the hat to the system.

15. Checkpoint book

+ Poignant
+ Insightful
– Won’t be for everyone

GamesRadar’s own Joe Donnelly (our Features Writer) wrote a book about the positive power of video games before he joined us, and it’s an affirming read that challenges common narratives of the medium being harmful.

Gifts for gamers – under $50 / £50

Stretch the budget a little and you can start to get your hands on more substantial gifts for gamers. Although they’re more expensive, these presents are definitely worth the increased cost.

1. PlayStation ‘Ugly’ Christmas Sweater

+ Stylish fan-service
+ Embroidered symbols
– Hard to get alternative colors

Wearing your finest ‘ugly’ Christmas sweater over the Holiday is practically mandatory these days, so why not give your loved one a jumper celebrating their console of choice? This one features intricate embroidery and premium material for a very cosy piece of kit.

2. Xbox ‘Ugly’ Christmas Sweater

+ Comfortable and cosy
+ Covered in fun details
– Garish colors

‘Ugly’ Christmas sweaters are a godsend if you’re struggling to come up with gifts for gamers, and this beauty from Numskull would be our jumper of choice for anyone hunting down Xbox presents. It’s cosy, covered in fun little details, and of a high enough quality that it won’t wear out after a single season.

3. Charmander ‘Ugly’ Christmas Sweater

+ Absolutely adorable
+ Comy
– No alternate colors

Zavvi offers an entire range of ‘ugly’ Christmas sweaters based on Pokemon, and they’re all utterly adorable. If your loved one likes these pocket monsters, they’ll probably be happy with any of these, but our favorite might just be the Charmander variant. It’s too cute!

4. PS5 headset stand

+ Practical
+ Good-looking
– Takes up a USB slot

This particular PS5 present looks awesome and will make any setup cooler, but it’s also practical – it helps keep your home tidier and avoids headsets getting tangled up with other accessories.

5. Xbox headset stand

+ Practical
+ Good-looking
– Takes up a USB slot

We’re really keen on this particular gift for gamers. Yes, it looks fantastic and will add a cool ambience to your setup. But it keeps everything tidy as well by stopping your headset getting tangled in your other accessories.

6. Lego Super Mario Starter Kit

+ Hours of replayability
+ App support plays Mario in real life
– Can be difficult to get out and pack away

Is there anything better than playing on the Switch? Yes – making Mario courses in real life with Lego. Duh! This starter set will get you going with a short ‘level’, a villain in the form of Bowser Jr, and Super Mario himself. What’s more, you’ll be able to ride this one out for a few birthdays yet… there are plenty of expansion packs to pick up.

7. God of War cookbook

+ Themed Norse recipes
+ Stuffed with lore
– Some dishes lack punch

As we mentioned in our feature on making Tyr’s stew, this is ideal for any God of War fans out there. Along with delicious Norse-themed recipes, the book is absolutely crammed with lore that should enrich the recipient’s love of the game series itself.

8. Elder Scrolls cookbook

+ Lore-accurate recipes
+ Entries from all Tamriel
– Some dishes are a bit bland

Being able to lose yourself in the world of Skyrim is one of gaming’s greatest pleasures, and this cookbook brings that joy into the real world with recipes based on those seen in the game itself. And yes, there are sweetrolls.

9. Heroes’ Feast cookbook

+ In-universe recipes
+ Excellent presentation
– Finding ingredients can be a hassle

Themed cookbooks are a solid novelty present, at the best of times, but this D&D version is better than we’d expected. It’s crammed with delightful recipes from that tabletop world, yes, but it’s also got options based on the game’s fantasy species like elves and dwarves.

10. The Game Console 2.0

+ Fascinating gaming history
+ Nostalgic
– Won’t appeal to younger gamers

Want to give a loved one a walk down memory lane? This coffee table book features pages of snaps and facts showing the journey from Atari to Xbox. Crammed with info and a breakdown of what made these systems tick, it’s a great choice for fans of retro gaming systems.

11. Venom Twin Charging Dock

+ No need for more AAs
+ Decent battery life
– Not very exciting

Fed up of having to buy AA batteries for your loved ones? Good news! This gift for gamers bypasses all that hassle with rechargeable packs. While they have a decent lifespan, getting the charging station is a definite bonus.

12. Charging Station

+ Can charge up to two controllers
+ Sleek design
Practical, but dull

It’s a little dull in terms of gifts for gamers, but that’s not to say it isn’t a very useful present – especially as an add-on to a console purchase. This lets you charge two controllers quickly and at the same time, which is obviously handy.

13. Game & Watch: Super Mario

+ A slice of retro joy
+ Features a classic game
Can’t get more games

Want to give the gamer in your life the ultimate retro console? This option from Nintendo comes with Super Mario Bros pre-installed, not to mention the tricky Lost Levels pack that fans will love. While this one’s available pretty much everywhere (including Walmart and Best Buy), you can also get a Legend of Zelda version if you’re lucky – it’s often out of stock.

14. Campaign Case: Creatures

+ Reusable
+ Lots of variety
– Could do with more heroes

It can be tricky to picture where your character is during combat in D&D, so this pack of reusable icons is a real help. It’s also a clever system – the stickers can be stuck onto plastic pucks, peeled off, and returned to the sticker sheet good as new and without damaging them.

15. Campaign Case: Terrain

+ Can be reused
+ Easy to set up scenes
– Not enough variety

This is a companion piece to the creatures case listed above, and it’s equally good in terms of bringing your D&D encounters to life. Modular tiles snap together to create the basic scene, and reusable stickers can then be put down onto them for any scenery you need.

Gifts for gamers – up to $100 / £100

Happy to push the boat out and get the ultimate gift for gamers? These are the premium options we’d recommend. Cool merch is also highlighted below, including some entries from the best Lego sets.

1. Lego Sonic The Hedgehog

+ Perfectly captures the game
+ Looks amazing
– Not interactive like Mario

This is the perfect nerdy crossover – one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time in Lego form. An ode to Sonic’s first adventure in the Green Hill Zone (complete with Doctor Eggman ready to cause chaos), it’s a slice of old-school heaven that comes highly recommended.

2. Lego Horizon Forbidden West

+ Excellent details
+ Simple instructions
– Not very poseable

Lego’s been knocking it out of the park with gaming-themed sets recently, and this is one of the best ones it’s made to date.  As we said in our Lego Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck review, this design is the perfect nod to the games and is magnificent to look at. Ideal for Horizon fans, in other words.

3. Mario Kart Live

+ A really cool idea
+ Make your own tracks
– Expensive for what it is

If the Nintendo Switch fan in your life has already rinsed Mario Kart, this AR Home Circuit peripheral can get them back on the race track. It’s like a cross between video games and Scalextric, so it’ll go down very well as a gift for gamers of all ages.

4. Sega Genesis Mini 2

+ Attention to detail
+ Decent selection of games
– Controllers don’t hold up

The Genesis is one of the most beloved games machines of all time, and now you can relive those glory days with a pint-sized version of the console. This recreation includes 60 of the best games, and it connects to your modern TV via HDMI.

5. PlayStation Classic

+ Full of nostalgia
+ Perfect recreation
– Only has 20 games

Party like it’s 1994! This remake of the classic PlayStation console is going to delight any gamer who’s been there from the very beginning, especially due to the fact that it includes 20 of the system’s best games (ranging from Metal Gear Solid to Final Fantasy VII).

6. Xbox Mini Fridge

+ Funny and unexpected
+ Actually works
– Expensive for a joke gift

This might be the most ridiculous gift on the entire list, but if your budget can stretch that far, it’s actually an amazing present. What began as a joke turned into a fully-functional mini-fridge from Microsoft, and setting it up beside the TV for on-demand drinks results in the ultimate gaming setup.

Gamer’s chair

Gamer’s chair helps with posture and health

We’re not just talking about play or style here, we’re talking about ergonomics and health. Sitting and playing in the wrong chair for hours can cause back pain and posture problems. Here you can choose a gift that will help your player not only during the game, but also at any time when he is sitting in front of the computer. Play, study or work from home.

A good gaming chair will help you maintain good posture. They adapt to your back, have height adjustment and arm height adjustment to give your body the right support for hours in front of the computer. This is where you need to do a little research before buying anything, as you may end up buying a chair that doesn’t fit your player or that doesn’t support the correct weight. So, to help, we have a story on how to build Setup Gamer.

One Game Pass or Ps Plus subscription

Game Pass is a game subscription service. It’s like paying a monthly fee and being able to rent as many games as you want without having to pay extra for them. Each month, these games change and may or may not be available in the console library after the service is cancelled. They offer monthly, quarterly or yearly plans. Just consult your preferred platform and find out how the services work.

Both PlayStation and Xbox have a subscription service that gives their subscribers some free games. If your player does not have such a service, you can give him a monthly subscription to these services. He will have access to some games and will be able to play them for free without buying. If your player already has this service, pay a monthly fee for it. There is nothing more exciting than getting a paid ticket for Christmas.

new game

Let’s not lie. Among the options we talked about above, like a controller subscription or game services, a new game can often cost more than some other things, but a new game doesn’t mean it has to be a launcher either. Sometimes your player has a game they wanted to play but haven’t been able to yet. This might be a good opportunity for you to find out if there are any promotions or offers in the stores so you can find this game and show up with it at the end of the year party.

Also, you can spend a little more and choose a game with good replayability so that your gamer can play for several hours. For PlayStation, for example, we can recommend the award-winning God of War. This will be the time for a very complex game that will keep your player entertained for hours and will not be as expensive as a new release, although it has the same quality.

You can choose a cool game and pay for it cheaply with various store promotions. Also, it doesn’t have to be the full game. You can see if your player’s library has a game they like with the missing DLC and give it to them. The game with a lot of cool DLC is The Sims 4, which adds new cities, playstyles and thousands of hours of fun.

leather

You can give him some style in his favorite game. If he plays Fortnite-style multiplayer games, Free Fire. League of Legends or other representatives of this style know that they offer several different skins for characters that are like clothes other than the character’s default clothes. In some of these games, these skins change the abilities of the characters, but this is not the case for the vast majority, as they must be balanced, and it is unfair that some players who can pay more are stronger than those who cannot. .

Have you ever imagined your player’s heart exploding enemies with Chapolin’s skin?

If you don’t know which skin he needs or which is the best one, then you can simply reload his favorite game and buy gems, crystals, or the in-game battle pass (for example, we explained how the Fortnite Battle Pass is here), which will give him several advantages, and he will be able to choose what he wants and what will help in the game.
