The tool belongs to the category of muscle relaxants. It provides a powerful blockade of the muscles, but it has a limited effect. The effect of its use is manifested only at the injection sites.

Botox does not migrate to neighboring tissues, does not affect the functioning of internal organs and systems, does not cause allergic reactions and does not make you feel worse.

The drug is intended for intramuscular injection, which is carried out using a thin needle. Only minor traces and hematomas remain in the injection zones, which disappear within a few days.

After the introduction of Botox, there is a direct inhibition of muscle fibers at the level of the neuromuscular synapse, as well as a decrease in the activity of muscle stretch receptors.

The result of the application is noticeable immediately, but the full effect is achieved only after 2 weeks. After repeated injections, 1-5% of patients develop antibodies to botulinum toxin type A, so effectiveness may be reduced.

Active substance and composition

Botox contains the following elements:

• Complex botulinum toxin type A (hemagglutinin) – 100 (200) units.
• Human plasma albumin – 500 mcg.
• Sodium chloride – 900 mcg.

The main effect is achieved through the use of a complex of botulinum toxin type A (Clostridium botulinum). Once in the body, this complex breaks down, releasing a pure neurotoxin. Botulinum toxin molecules consist of linked heavy (with a molecular weight of 100,000 Da) and light (with a molecular weight of 50,000 Da) chains.

The heavy chain binds to specific receptors on the surface of target neurons. And light – has protease activity, which manifests itself in the cytoplasmic regions. Due to this, botulinum toxin molecules bind to neuromuscular cells.

There is a blockade of the release of acetylcholine, which leads to a decrease in the activity of muscle receptors. This ensures the elimination of mimic wrinkles, the cessation of migraines and hyperhidrosis.

Pharmacological action

After injection, botulinum toxin type A is concentrated for some time in muscle tissues, after which it enters the systemic circulation.

For cosmetic and therapeutic purposes, small dosages of the drug are used, so it does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier and does not affect organs and internal systems. Subsequently, the composition is rapidly metabolized with the formation of simple molecular structures and excreted from the body.

• For the treatment of unilateral or bilateral blepharospasm, solution is injected superficially into the orbicular muscle of the eye. Approximately 2.5-5 units of the drug are injected into each point. On average, you will need 15-25 units per side. A stable result is noticeable after 2-7 days, lasts up to 6 months. For a sustainable clinical effect, you will need to inject Botox regularly. The total dose for 12 weeks should not exceed 100 units.
• To eliminate mimic wrinkles the drug is injected into the muscles of the forehead, between the eyebrows or around the eyes. The result is a clear or slightly yellow liquid without foreign inclusions.

You can store the finished solution for 4 hours at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees. For the introduction of Botox into tissues, it is necessary to use a syringe with a needle with a diameter of 0.27-0.29 mm.

Overdose
