Whether you’re in a dorm or a small space, monitors are a great alternative to large TVs for gaming with the PlayStation 4, and they usually have lower input lag. As many 4k gaming monitors have features that only the PS5 can take advantage of, like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and variable refresh rate support, you don’t need many features to find the best gaming monitor for PS4. Since the PS4 supports 1080p resolutions, even a basic 1080p monitor is good enough, but the PS4 Pro supports a 4k resolution too. While it might be worth getting a high-end 4k gaming monitor if you want to buy the PS5 in the future, the PS4 can’t take advantage of high-end features, so you don’t need to spend a lot on a monitor for the PS4.
We’ve bought and tested over 275 monitors, and below you’ll find our top picks for the best monitors for both the PS4 and PS4 Pro. See our recommendations for the best gaming monitors, the best PS5 monitors, and the best 4k gaming monitors.

The best monitor for PS4 that we’ve tested is the Gigabyte M28U. It’s a 4k monitor meant for use with current-gen gaming consoles like the PS5, but it still offers excellent gaming performance with the PS4 and PS4 Pro, and it doesn’t cost as much as other high-end monitors. While its stand-out feature is HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, which the PS4 doesn’t support anyways, you can at least take full advantage of the PS5 with this monitor if you want to eventually get that console.
You can also get the 32-inch Gigabyte M32U if you want a bigger screen, but it costs more.
If you have the PS4 Pro, you won’t have issues displaying 4k content, and the high resolution delivers sharp detail and crisp images. The monitor has a good response time with 60Hz signals, resulting in only a bit of blur trail behind fast-moving objects. While its 60Hz input lag is slightly higher than most monitors, it’s still lower than many TVs, and you’ll get a responsive feel without any noticeable delay while gaming.

If you’re looking for a cheaper monitor in the mid-range price category, consider the LG 32GP850-B.
It’s different from the Gigabyte M28U because it has a 1440p resolution and doesn’t have HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. It doesn’t make a difference for gaming on the PS4 anyways, as the console doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, so you can save money by getting a monitor with HDMI 2.0 bandwidth like this one, especially if you don’t think you’ll get a PS5 later on.
While the 1440p resolution doesn’t produce crisp images like the 4k screen on the Gigabyte, the image clarity is still good. The PS4 and PS4 Pro don’t natively support this monitor’s 1440p resolution, but the monitor still displays 4k signals by downscaling them, and it upscales 1080p signals. It has great motion handling at 60Hz, so there’s minimal blur trail behind fast-moving objects. If you find that the 32-inch screen is too big for the space you have available, the LG 27GP850-B/27GP83B-B is a smaller alternative that performs similarly, so you can get whichever size you prefer.

If you’re on a tighter budget, check out the Gigabyte M27Q. It has a 1440p resolution like the LG 32GP850-B but a smaller screen, and its gaming performance is worse. It has worse motion handling than the LG, but its response time at 60Hz is still good enough for gaming, and you won’t notice too much blur with fast-moving objects.
It can either downscale a 4k signal or upscale a 1080p signal, making it a great choice for both the PS4 and PS4 Pro. However, like the LG, it doesn’t support HDMI 2.
1 bandwidth either, so you might need to upgrade your monitor if you buy the PS5 in the future, but most low-cost monitors don’t support that anyways. It also has a few extra features to give you a competitive advantage over someone who uses a TV, as it has different crosshair modes, which are ideal for FPS games, and its input lag is even lower than the LG or even the Gigabyte M28U.

If you want a simple and cheap gaming monitor for your PS4, check out the Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx.
It has a smaller 24-inch screen and lower 1080p resolution compared to the Gigabyte M27Q, which is what you have to expect for a low-cost display. Because the standard PS4 only supports a 1080p resolution and nothing higher, this is ideal if you have that console and don’t want a monitor that has to upscale 1080p signals. You won’t have any compatibility issues while using the console on this monitor, either.
It offers great gaming performance with a good response time with 60Hz signals as long as you disable any variable refresh rate (VRR) support on the monitor. However, this doesn’t make a difference, as the PS4 doesn’t support VRR. It also has wide viewing angles, and despite its low cost, it has outstanding ergonomics that make it a good choice for co-op gaming.

The Dell S2722QC often goes on sale for around the same price as the Gigabyte M27Q, and it’s a decent choice if you have the PS4 Pro as it has a 4k resolution. However, it isn’t a dedicated gaming monitor, meaning it has worse motion handling than the Gigabyte.

Why did I buy a PlayStation 4 in 2022 and was it worth it – Life on DTF
There are nuances, but the purchase was still successful.
64079
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series were released in November 2020, but their launch was probably the most problematic in history due to the coronavirus and the shortage of semiconductors. The shortage of current consoles continues even now – in mid-2022.
I decided in advance that at the start of the ninth generation I would take the Xbox Series X, and sold the basic Xbox One and PlayStation 4 shortly before the console was released. I wanted to buy a PS5 for a year, but, you guessed it, this did not happen. In April, I decided to take a radical step and buy the previous generation console again, but not the regular one, but the Pro version.
In this article, I will talk in detail about the reasons for buying a PS4 and share my impressions of using it after a year and a half of playing on the Xbox Series X. As it turned out, even now the pros of the console outweigh the cons.
Why
In fact, the main reason for buying a PlayStation 4 is the impossibility of getting a current Sony console. The Eldorado network sent me a “gold” coupon in February for the purchase of the device, but even with it I couldn’t buy a PS5.
Soon, Sony suspended deliveries to Russia, and the price of the disk version of the console jumped sharply at Avito. For example, at the end of April, a used PlayStation 5 cost at least 70 thousand in my region (Vologda region). I was not ready to give such an amount for the console – even if it was desirable.
Initially, I wanted to leave the idea of buying a PlayStation until better times, but then an idea flashed through my head: why not return to PS4? Moreover, Sony is still releasing its most anticipated games (for example, Horizon Forbidden West) on it.
Yes, in terms of graphics and performance, the PS4 versions of the new games are inferior to the PlayStation 5. However, I thought it would be better to still play what you want, and not wait for the current console to resume shipping to stores. And to be honest, I believe even less that the prices for Avito will drop.
Other reasons for the purchase immediately arose in my head. For example, I never got past some of the console exclusives (Persona 5, Ratchet and Clank, Bloodborne), which now cost less than two thousand even on discs.
I don’t like FromSoftware games, but I hope Bloodborne will still like
In addition, over the years I have accumulated a good library of games. After buying a PS4, you can, for example, return to Red Dead Redemption 2, finally finish Days Gone, or try to get platinum in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. Even this backlog will easily last a year, and if you do not forget about Series X, then you can stretch it out even longer.
After weighing all the pros and cons, and also resigned to the fact that I was not destined to see the advantages of “nextgen” in some games, I began to think about where to find the console. But then another question arose – which version of PS4 to choose.
Since I have a 4K TV, I chose the PlayStation 4 Pro. Its hardware is not so radically different from Slim and “fatty”, but still I wanted to play it safe and take the console with an eye on UltraHD. Well, Boost Mode, which improves performance in some games, and faster downloads seemed like a nice addition.
How to buy
The most well-known chains (M.Video, Eldorado) have not been supplied with firmware for a long time, and at less popular retailers they cost at least 80 thousand. Therefore, I had to turn to the secondary market at Avito: the prices there are no longer the same as they were a couple of years ago, but still quite adequate, given the ongoing events.
So, in my region, the Slim version costs 25-27 thousand, the fat version costs from 21 to 25, and the Pro costs about 35. Almost always, sellers give consoles with a second gamepad, several games on disks or an account. Sometimes all at once. More than once I caught myself thinking that those who did not have a PS4 before could now buy a console with many exclusives for a relatively modest amount.
I followed the ads for the PS4 Pro for a couple of days and eventually wrote to the seller who gave the console away for 36 thousand. The kit included a second blue gamepad and an Assassin’s Creed Black Flag disc.
I did not need these “accessories”, and the seller agreed to sell the PS4 Pro without them, reducing the price to 32,500 thousand. Given that the console was in good condition and with a box, the price seemed quite good to me.
Photo of the seller from “Avito”
I note that the Pro-versions are best sold exactly within 35 thousand: consoles that cost more are not taken so willingly. For example, a Death Stranding-style PS4 Pro with lots of accessories costs 45,000, but the buyer has not yet been found, although the announcement was published in early April.
Was it worth it
In short, yes, but there are nuances. I first downloaded God of War to test the console a bit. The PS4 Pro was quiet in the menus, so I was unpleasantly surprised when it began to noticeably make noise after starting the game. Of course, it cannot be compared with the noise from a washing machine or a vacuum cleaner, but it was still unusual.
I thought maybe the console still had some problem, but in weaker games (like Batman: The Telltale Series) it worked almost silently. Yes, and the previous owner changed the thermal paste shortly before the sale.
Not so beautiful own photo
After a short search, we found out that many Pro owners complain about the noise – especially those who bought the console of the first revision. The fact is that they have a Delta cooler installed, which is quite noisy. Sony fixed the problem in revisions of the CUH-7100 and CUH-7200, but the first buyers had to put up with a flaw or change the cooler to a quieter one (for example, from Nidec).
To be honest, I wasn’t interested in this sort of thing before I bought the PS4 Pro, and it let me down. Yes, the revision of my console turned out to be CUH-7008B, so the reason for the noise became clear.
In discussions, besides replacing the cooler, players are advised to install another pressure plate to make the device quieter. But I’m not sure that I will decide on this: I’m afraid to break something inside the console, and I still need to find a reliable service center.
After testing the PS4 Pro for a few days, I’ve come to terms with the noise level. The difference with the absolutely quiet Xbox Series X is, of course, noticeable, but so far nothing has happened to my firmware. An overclocked cooler is even useful: in the heaviest games, the console does not heat up much.
As for games, I immediately bought Horizon Forbidden West. As it turned out, the game looks great and works stably even on the previous generation console. Sure, graphics and performance are better on PS5, but I don’t feel left out playing on PS4 Pro.
Noticeable, perhaps, long loading: the Horizon sequel runs for about a minute, and after death, checkpoints are loaded for 20-30 seconds. Again, this is not a bad result for a previous generation console, but after a year and a half of using the Series X, such an expectation seems unusual.
After Forbidden West, I’ll probably take care of the missed exclusives. There are no games that interest me yet, so it’s time to clear the backlog. If the release of God of War: Ragnarok takes place this fall, then the console will not be idle until the end of the year – I think this is a good alignment.
As a result, I can say that buying a PS4 in 2022 turned out to be a good compromise when it was impossible to get a PlayStation 5. It is still an excellent console with a huge library of games, and Sony is still releasing some of its new products on it.
In addition, in June, the publisher will upgrade its PS Plus subscription and give you access to hundreds of PS4 games for one small fee. Unless, of course, we wait for the launch of a new “plus” in Russia.
Yes, after the Xbox Series X it took me a few days to get used to the noise of the cooler and long downloads, but in general I do not regret spending 32 thousand. If you have a 4K TV and the right amount, then buy the “firmware”. The Slim version is suitable for those who are not interested in UltraHD resolution.
But do not repeat my mistake and pay attention to the revision: perhaps this will save you a few nerve cells.
PS 4 Slim and Pro – differences between 2 consoles
Article updated 08/02/2021
Popular game consoles – the fourth “curling irons” Sony Playstation Slim and Pro have differences not only in appearance and price, but also in terms of characteristics. How strong are the differences, and whether it is worth overpaying for the Pro version – this article will help to decide. She tells what is the fundamental difference between the prefixes.
Sony PlayStation 4 Slim: specifications
Thin, cute, and most importantly, productive console can be a great gift for a gamer.
Launched in 2016 (like Pro), it does not differ from the classic version of 2013 in terms of characteristics, but its appearance is more graceful.
For the little ones: Top 10 games for kids on Android
PlayStation 4 Pro: features
More powerful, but at the same time more expensive, this console will allow you to play any modern game and enjoy the gameplay to the fullest by connecting a high-definition TV.
Differences between PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim
With the parameters sorted out, it’s time to move on to a specific comparison of the “curling-console” parameters. To decide which is better Playstation 4 Pro or Slim, check out the differences.
- The top version has a higher clock speed, and therefore this option is potentially more productive.
- The owners of the “thin” set-top box have the opportunity to choose the size of the drive among two options: half a terabyte and a terabyte. But the owners of the Pro console will no longer be able to save money by taking a device with a smaller hard drive. Models are only available with 1TB storage (with the exception, of course, of the special PS4 Pro 500 Million Edition, a video review of which awaits you at the end of the article).
- Slim version is more compact and lighter: 2.1 kg versus 3.3 kg, but the Pro has more powerful cooling.
- There is a difference in the number and versions of USB ports.
So, the older model has three 3.1 connectors, and the thin one has two 3.0 ports.
Now let’s take a closer look at how the two popular consoles differ in terms of gameplay. Accounted for:
- graphics features,
- game stability,
- productivity,
- the ability to connect virtual reality devices.
More fun together: Top 10 games for two on Sony Playstation 4.5 and other platforms in 2021 And speaking of performance, don’t forget the role of console OS updates. In the version 4.5 update, released in the spring of 2017, a forced mode is provided – an analogue of overclocking the CPU on a PC.
Thanks to this, you can significantly increase the FPS in games. This applies even to those games for which patches were not provided by the developers. The PS4 Pro hardware enhancement gives the user the ability to stream the game processor online, stream the game to an alternate device, and record their own FHD gameplay videos.
Streaming in Full HD resolution on Twitch with a stable FPS of 60 frames, which is twice the previous rates, became possible after SW 5.0, which was released in the fall of 2017. Finally, 2018 OS version 5.5 brought PS4 Pro users a supersampling mode, which significantly improves the clarity and quality of the picture when connected to a TV with a resolution lower than 4K. Of course, updates are also coming to the Slim, but the resolution and frame rate of this model are lower compared to its older sister, even in 2021.
A bit of history: Development and lineup of Sony PlayStation: from 1994 to today
Graphics
If we compare the PlayStation 4 Pro and Slim, the graphics processor is more powerful, and therefore the picture is richer and more realistic. It is much clearer due to the fact that the older model was able to play content in 4K, but the younger one has a standard display format – FHD.
Games
PS4 Pro owners have a choice of different game modes. For example, in Rise of the Tomb Raider and other games, you can choose a stable 60 FPS. But you can also stop at 30 FPS, but with maximum graphic effects for FHD resolution.
However, some games look better on PS4 Pro than on Slim without any modes. All thanks to better optimization and more powerful hardware. The Witcher 3, Days Gone and other games are just that. In fact, the list of games that have a Pro patch or initial support for improved console hardware is quite large.

VR helmet
Pro and Slim can connect to VR. The models differ in that VR games on the older console come with higher FPS. In terms of the number of effects, she also wins.
The level of detail is also noticeably improved, thanks to powerful hardware. In terms of the controller, the user is free to choose between the DualShock 4 gamepad or the PS Move device.
Important : The helmet will not work without a device such as the PS Camera.
Appearance
Both consoles have a minimalistic style. They will fit perfectly both in a bachelor’s high-tech studio and in a cute Provence-style house. The only visual difference between the consoles is their height. Slim version only 39 cm highmm – approximately like 2 APPLE MacBook Air 13 “M1 when folded. But the Pro model is noticeably taller – 55 cm or like a stack of 4 MacBooks. The differences in width and depth are minimal, so the difference is not even felt here. .Pro-shock has “three stripes”, like a well-known sports brand. This design decision was applied to accommodate the “hardware” more powerfully.
Cost
The deciding factor when choosing between Sony Playstation 4 Pro or Slim is the price of the set-top box. And the main advantage of the Slim console is its price. On average, it costs from 8 to 12 thousand – the exact price depends on the store. Many outlets sell the console bundled with top AAA games that almost everyone likes. Bundles such as PS 4 Slim 1Tb (Gran Turismo + Ratchet & Clank + Horizon Zero Dawn + PSPlus 3M) will cost UAH 11-13 thousand, which is much cheaper if the user buys the console and the necessary games separately. Cool games cost from 1 to 2 thousand hryvnias, and if all this was purchased separately, the user would have to pay 15-17 thousand hryvnias.
PS4 Pro is sold in Ukrainian stores without additional games, which means you will have to buy them yourself. The price, depending on the store, ranges from 13 to 17 thousand UAH. Solid. But such hardware allows you to run 4K content!
Which one to buy Sony Playstation 4 Slim or Pro
0003
For those who don’t care about high definition or live without a 4K TV, the Playstation 4 Slim is the way to go. The compact Sonya is a good solution for those who want to save money.
Well, for those users who like to immerse themselves in the gameplay to the maximum, we can advise Pro.
