Convenient, but not all there.


The other day I made two pretty large purchases within this app. I had opted for in store pickup as I was able to receive the products same day. I picked them up maybe 3 hours after ordering, and over all the experience was very fluid and stress free. However, the reason that I’m not able to give this application full marks, is that my purchases were not assigned to my purchase history. Additionally I’m unable to leave a review for my purchases within the app, though this may be related to my purchase history issues. Overall, I would say that this app is worth using if you’re only interested in placing orders with it, and maybe scheduling service visits, though I’ve not tried this myself.

Recent Version ANNOYING Shopping Cart Malfunctioning

Overall, love the App, happy customer. Have been for over a decade. However, at least 2 months or more, the iPadOS app has a seriously annoying malfunction. The Shopping Cart Saved Items isn’t working correctly. You can move items to save for later, add items to save for later. However, once in the Saved Items List, they become completely inactive and unresponsive. Cannot remove, delete, move to cart or click on the item for item details. If you go to the website through Safari on my iPad Air 2, the saved items list works correctly. On my iPhone 11, the app works correctly, including the saved items list. This malfunction is exclusive to the iPadOS version of the app. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP as I am an AVID customer and this is REALLY ANNOYING. EDIT: Also, you can forget about getting in touch with anyone to EVEN tell about this problem, let alone ask to get it fixed. I have tried “the phone tree” 4 times now, get bounced around from department to department, never getting a person who even understands what I am talking about. Where is your APP support. Don’t even bother telling me to call geek squad, they have no clue. If you’re gonna put an app out, support it and actually listen to the users and make it easier to get in touch with you.

HUGE glitch in BB credit card part of app

The regular shopping part of the app is fine, but there is a HUGE glitch in the credit card account part of the app! If you have the BB credit card and pay through the app, be REALLY CAREFUL not to tap on the ‘make a payment’ part UNLESS YOU REALLY PLAN TO PAY RIGHT THEN!! I accidentally tapped on that, and backed out because I wasn’t making a payment, and it made a payment at the highest one of the a available options WITHOUT ME EVER CLICKING ON THE “authorize” BUTTON!!! I am now out $2500 AT CHRISTMAS, overdrawn in my bank account, and have to wait WEEKS for the dispute process to complete to get this UNAUTHORIZED payment refunded!! I have no money to pay my rent or other bills because of this glitch. I am appalled at the shoddy programming that would allow this to happen and am wondering how many other people have had their money stolen by this glitch. It is horrifying that this is possible, and there is no way to get the charge immediately refunded because the app says it was authorized! Be careful, everyone!! EDIT: I have reported this to Apple as a scam or fraud because no credit card app should ever be charging someone without their authorization. That is theft, and I will start escalating if there is no response regarding correcting this glitch.

How contactless payment has affected the market

Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay are applications for contactless payment for goods and services in stores equipped with bank terminals. Google Pay, formerly known as Android Pay, is suitable for smartphones running the Android operating system. Apple Pay and Samsung Pay for iOS devices and Samsung smartphones, respectively.

The advent of these apps has had a major impact on the retail industry. According to the head of MasterCard, back in 2016, 58% of respondents preferred to pay for purchases using a smartphone. In 2017, sales of smartphones that support contactless payments increased sharply: by 60% compared to 2016, Vedomosti reported. In 2018, banks reported that at least a quarter of Russians use contactless technology:

  • Sberbank said that in April 2018, the share of payments from smartphones was 23%.
  • Over the past year, payments through Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and Garmin Pay with YuMoney cards have increased by 2.5 times. At the same time, the turnover increased by 3.1 times.

The share of contactless payments from smartphones is constantly growing. Thus, in the total volume of contactless payments via YuMoney, the share of payments by smartphones increased from 29% to 39%, while turnover accounts for 48% – this figure increased by 1.5 times over the year. And the average check in 2018 ranged from 500 ₽ to 1300 ₽.

Such applications are more convenient than cash: no need to carry a card with you, dig into your wallet, add change, count whether it was given correctly – everything is in your smartphone. Contactless payment is changing retail:

  • Increases the amount of payments — when a person pays from the phone and sees only the numbers on the screen, it is psychologically easier for him to part with money compared to paying in cash.
  • Reduces queues – just touch the phone to the terminal to pay. Other methods take longer: when paying with a card, you need to enter a pin code, when paying in cash, you need to transfer money to the cashier and take the change.

Let’s compare: Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay

In general, the applications are similar. Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay allow you to link multiple bank cards and loyalty cards to use them for payments. All three are secure – they transmit data using a secure protocol. They support payment not only through the terminal, but also in online stores and through the terminal without an Internet connection. You just need to bring a smartphone with any application to the terminal, and if the amount exceeds 1000 ₽, confirm the purchase with a fingerprint, PIN code, pattern or face scan.

But there are differences. For example, Apple Pay and Google Pay work using NFC technology – they can pay for purchases at terminals that support contactless payment. And Samsung Pay additionally supports MST technology, imitating the magnetic strip of conventional bank cards – this application is suitable for paying for purchases at any terminals. The phone, as it were, broadcasts the created magnetic strip 7–8 centimeters around. In addition, Samsung smartphones can install the Google Pay app, not just Samsung Pay. Appearance

Google Pay. On the main page, you can see lists of recent transactions and available cards. The latter are displayed only on the front side. You can’t see the back, but all the content on them can be seen by scrolling. For example, useful links and store hours can be seen in the description of loyalty cards. The center image can be animated:

Apple Pay. Lists of transactions and available cards are also visible on the main page. Double-sided cards:

  • Company logo, image, discount percentages, balance, special offers on the front
  • Phone numbers, links and email on the back

In the card settings, you can completely change its color — for example, to customize the interface to your liking or quickly choose a method payment without reading the titles.

Samsung Pay. Nothing unusual: on the main page there are lists of available payment options and recent transactions. If you click on the desired loyalty card, you will get all the information about it: number, expiration date, store hours, links to its website.

Functionality

Google Pay. Works with new bank cards from Visa and MasterCard and with loyalty cards – a total of 97 supported payment methods. The number of connected cards is not limited.

Allows you to pay for purchases without the Internet using an NFC chip, but no more than 6 in a row. Payments are available in Chrome, Safari and Firefox browsers, as well as in KFC, Azbuka Vkusa, H&M and others applications.

Apple Pay. Works with bank cards and loyalty cards, allows you to connect up to 8 cards. The service cooperates with 90 Russian banks.

Allows you to translate to other users, but only to those who also have this application installed. It is possible to pay via Apple Pay in terminals without an Internet connection and in the Safari browser. Payment is also available in the Aeroflot, KinoPoisk, Yandex.Taxi, Lamoda and other applications.

Samsung Pay. Accepts loyalty cards and bank “plastic”, from 80 companies and banks in total. You can link up to 10 cards to the application at the same time.

Thanks to MST technology, it allows you to pay for purchases without the Internet in unlimited quantities and pay even at old terminals that only accept cards. It also allows you to transfer money to other users of the application and pay for orders on 340,000 sites using Visa Checkout.

    Google Pay. The application can be used in more than 20 countries, including Russia. The list is constantly expanding.

    Apple Pay. It has the widest geography – it works with 46 countries. It can also work in other countries if you link a card from one of the partner banks to the application.

    Samsung Pay. Available in 24 countries including Russia.

    How many people use apps

    It is known that the Google Pay application covers 85% of the market – that’s how many smartphones are based on Android. According to Google Play, the number of installs of the service for contactless payments exceeded 100 million. And according to a Mediascope survey, in 2018, the majority of Russians used the Google Pay service — 18.7% of respondents installed it.

    Apple Pay is the second most popular app according to Mediascope, with 16.5% of respondents having installed it. And the analytical company Loup Ventures prepared a report according to which the app’s audience in 2017 was 127 million active users. In 2018, the number of users grew by 135% and approached the mark of 383 million people.

    Samsung Pay is the third most popular solution according to Mediascope; it is used by 12.3% of surveyed users. And according to a company statement published in March 2018, the number of active users of the application worldwide was 10 million people. Now the number of downloads of the service on Google Play has exceeded 100 million.

    Which is better – Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay – you decide. It depends on what features you need and what cards you have.

    Which is better – Samsung Pay or Google Pay, Apple Pay – depends on your needs. Choose an application based on the brand of your smartphone, the cards used and the required parameters:

    • If you bought an iPhone, you will have to use Apple Pay, other applications cannot be installed on Apple devices.
    • If you use more than 10–15 cards, choose Google Pay, in other applications you will not be able to link so many payment methods.
    • If you live in a small town with old-style terminals or internet outages, download Samsung Pay, the only one that allows you to pay for purchases using MST technology.

    Mir Pay

    There are analogues that can be used instead of contactless payment. All of them make it possible to make payments on the same principle as Google Pay. That is, it is enough to bring a mobile phone to a compatible terminal to pay for goods or services.

    You will need to install the Mir Pay mobile application on your smartphone. It can be downloaded from the Google Play app store. Please note: it only works with World maps. If you have a Visa or MasterCard card, you will not be able to make a contactless payment.

    But ordering a new card is easy. And if you can’t wait, issue a virtual card. Many banks offer this service, and it takes no more than a minute. In Tinkoff Bank, for example, it is enough:

    • to open your account;
    • click on the + next to it;
    • select in sequence “Issue a new card” – “For myself” – “Virtual”.

    After that, you will be offered a design, and at this stage you need to choose the Mir payment system.

    When you have a Mir card and the Mip Pay application, you need to:

    • open the application;
    • scan the card or enter data manually;
    • activate the card by following the prompts on the screen.

    Done. You can make contactless payments using the Mir Pay application.

    SberPay

    This contactless payment system also has limitations. It is intended for customers of Sberbank and works only with Mir cards. In April 2022, due to technical difficulties, contactless payment using SberPay did not work, but it was restored in early June.

    If you have a Mir card issued by Sber and the Sberbank Online application, you do not need to install anything additional. The contactless payment feature is already built into the app. To use it, enter the application and click on your profile icon. After that, click on the gear icon to go to the settings.

    You can make it easier – type the word Sberpay in the search bar next to the profile icon.

    In the “Pay by SberPay phone” item, add your card. After that, you can use the SberPay system.

    Samsung Pay

    The app, as its name suggests, only works on Samsung smartphones and smartwatches. And only with Mir cards. It can be downloaded from Google Pay or Galaxy Store.

    There is a handy function on the Russian-language official Samsung website that allows you to understand whether the system works with your bank cards. Follow the link and start typing the name of the bank in the empty line – you will be immediately informed whether you will be able to use contactless payment or not.

    If everything is in order, then:

    • open the application;
    • select the item “Bank cards” in the menu;
    • click on + to add your card;
    • scan it or enter the data manually.

    Unlike the applications mentioned above, Samsung Pay is also suitable for storing and using discount cards and travel tickets.

    Huawei Pay

    This is another application that works on certain brands of smartphones. It is available to those who use Huawei and Honor mobile devices. In Russia, it can only be used to make payments using Union Pay cards issued by the following banks:

    • Gazprombank;
    • Eastern Bank;
    • Rosselkhozbank;
    • Solidarity.

    The list of organizations with which the system cooperates will be expanded in the future.

    To use Huawei Pay, you need to download the Wallet app from AppGallery. If you have a Huawei or Honor smartphone with the application installed on them and a Unio Pay card, follow these steps:

    • open the application;
    • click + to add a card;
    • scan the card;
    • follow the on-screen instructions.

    If everything went well, you can make contactless payments using Huawei Pay.

    SBPay

    The SBPay application was created on the basis of the Fast Payment System, which has been introduced by the Central Bank since 2019. This is not entirely about contactless payments, but partially solves the issue with the lack of access to Google Pay. It can be downloaded from the Google Pay store or from the app’s own website.

    The advantage of the system is that it does not care at all what kind of card you have: Visa, Mastercard or Mir. It works with any debit cards, but not credit cards. The downside is that it allows you to pay for goods and services only through links on the Internet, buttons on the site and QR codes. That is, the principle “bring the smartphone to the terminal and made a payment” does not work here.

    You can use “SBPey” only if the seller is ready for it. So far there are few of them. This is due to the fact that the system was created primarily for quick payments by mobile phone number, and payment via QR codes is a useful, but secondary function. Perhaps in the future the situation will change. To start using SBPey:

    • download the app from the Google Play store and open it;
    • select your bank from the proposed list;
    • enter the phone number to which notifications will be sent;
    • , enter the account number – the application does not work with plastic card data, but with bank account details.

    Now, when making a purchase, you need to:

    • open the application;
    • point the camera at the QR code – on the main page of the application there will be a dedicated area in which you need to “catch” the code;
    • select the payment account, specify the amount if it is not displayed in the corresponding box, and confirm the payment.
