What is the recommended

TV size to get?

We’ve put together some tips for

when it comes to choosing a TV size.

How to measure

TV screen size

Calculating your TV size is less complicated than you might think. A TV’s size refers to its diagonal length, which comes from measuring from the upper left hand corner of the actual TV screen to the lower right hand corner. Most are expressed in inches.

Rule of thumb:

bigger is better

TVs come in various sizes, but we recommend selecting the largest size your budget allows. If you’re considering getting a TV that’s 65 inches or more, there’s something you should know. According to Samsung Internal Research, a major reason for purchasing new TVs is the demand for bigger screens. And that even after purchase, satisfaction remains very high. So, has there been a particular screen size that’s been on your mind? Then, now’s the time to go big and never look back.

Recommended viewing distance for your TV

All TVs have a recommended TV viewing distance and angle that you will want to consider when setting it up in your home. The best and most immersive viewing experience is when 40 degrees of your field of view is taken up by the screen. This field of view distance can be calculated by just knowing the size of your TV. To get this suitable distance, multiply the screen size by 1.2. So for a 75 inch TV, that means sitting 90 inches, or 2. 3 meters away. Have a look at the table provided to determine the recommended viewing distances for various TV sizes – whether big or small TV – so you can choose the best TV size for your space.

Other things to keep in mind

1. Check the actual TV dimensions.

The excitement of buying a new TV can often cause you to forget about the actual task of setting it up. A TV is more than just its screen size. The physical dimensions of a big screen TV, stand and bezel included, as well as its future placement in its room are all important factors to remember. Be sure to compare the exact TV dimensions with your furniture setup to avoid headaches down the road when setting up your big screen TV.

2. Check the TV resolution, especially with a big screen TV.

The general rule of thumb is that as the screen size increases, so should the total pixel count or resolution. The better the resolution, the more you see the image instead of the pixels. This is why when you buy a big screen TV it is highly recommended to go with a high resolution picture quality like 4K.

Just remember, going

big means no regrets later.

QLED TV – All that you need to know about it

Choose your location and language.

What is

QLED TV?

Ever wonder what a QLED TV is

and how it works?
Let us break it down for you.

What’s a QLED TV and a Quantum dot?

A QLED TV is a Quantum dot-based TV, and that Quantum dot material is what makes QLED TVs different from conventional ones.

Quantum dots are ultra-fine semiconductor materials of nanoscale size. These dots produce different colors of light depending on the particle size—the larger the size the more red the color, and the smaller the size the more blue the color. They are able to emit precise colored light because particle sizes adjust at quantum-level velocities, resulting in accurate and efficient light emissions. The greater efficiency in luminance brings about tremendous changes in overall picture quality.

What’s special

about QLED TVs?

QLED TVs take advantage of the many unique characteristics that Quantum dots offer such as “high luminance”. Luminance refers to how bright a screen looks and that brightness is an important factor affecting other elements of image quality. First, contrast ratio is naturally improved when brightness is higher. When bright and dark representation of videos and images can be widely expressed, it’s known as HDR (high dynamic range). This HDR, which is an essential component of picture quality, is enhanced further providing crisp and rich images.

Now, let’s have a look at how all this affects colour.

The effect of brightness on overall colour quality is simple. For example in the red colour spectrum there is a range of bright and dark reds, but QLED TVs express this range of colours better. This unique QLED technology, along with other black implementation technologies such as Direct Full Array, provides a completely different picture quality and a more realistic viewing experience compared to non-QLED TVs.

What is burn-in?

Burn-in is a permanent defect in the panel where a residual screen image appears permanently on screen. If you think about frequently displayed images such as broadcaster logos, they are in the same fixed area for a certain period of time. Repeatedly displaying the same logo in the same place is enough to result in Burn-in. QLED TVs use Quantum dots which are inorganic, durable, stable and allow for excellent colour and brightness. QLED TVs have the advantage in that you can watch your content for long periods of time without having to worry about Burn-in—allowing for an overall longer TV lifespan.

From what distance to watch TV

In this article we will analyze the factors that affect the optimal distance for viewing images on a TV screen. From what distance to watch TV depends mainly on the diagonal and resolution of the TV screen. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the recommendations of THX, CNET, SMPTE on this matter, we will provide a table for calculating the distance to the TV depending on the diagonal, screen resolution and the content viewed on it from SD to 4K.

What is the largest 4K TV you need? 37, 42, 50, 65 or 75 inches, if any diagonal from the vending series of TVs is available and the budget allows? Now we will not consider a huge study or entertainment center, in which you could probably install the largest TV. Consider a typical living space—your room or hall.

How far to watch 4K TV

The question “How far to watch TV” refers to the distance that depends on the size of your room, more specifically, the distance from where you sit to the screen. Also, the choice of diagonal depends on the number of people watching TV at the same time.

In other words, first choose the place where the TV will stand and the seat where you are going to watch it. Then measure the distance to the TV. Depending on this distance, you should choose a TV with a diagonal size that is comfortable for viewing.

TV Distance Recommendations and Calculations

There is a direct correlation between the recommended screen size and the distance to the viewer. The greater the distance, the larger your TV should be. The ideal is the kind of screen that fills a certain field of view, although the term “ideal” requires further discussion and interpretation.

THX (High Quality Home Theater System Total Requirements Standard) recommends, for example, a 40-degree viewing angle as being optimal for “fullness of view”. What does 40 degrees mean to the viewer?

For example, most users prefer to be 9 feet (108 inches or 2.74 m) away from the TV, so THX recommends a screen size of 90 inches for that distance. This means that a 55-inch TV will not be the largest, at least not in these recommendations. Therefore, the recommendation is to install a 60-inch screen at a distance of 2.74 meters from the browser.

SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) recommends a 30-degree view, slightly less than the THX recommendation. To calculate the distance according to these recommendations, you need to multiply the distance between the viewer and the TV screen by 0. 625. Thus, given our distance (in the example) of 2.74 meters, the diagonal of the TV screen should be 68 inches (the average between a diagonal of 65 and 70). However, we understand that not everyone has the opportunity to install such a large TV due to the space of the room.

CNET, after joining this question, recommends being no closer than 1.5 times the screen diagonal, or using a multiplier of 0.667 to calculate the same distance. These calculations result in a “slightly larger” TV screen size for your space than the SMPTE recommendations. So the maximum size is 72 inches (closest is 70 inches) for our calculated distance of 2.7 m. It is too easy to get addicted to mathematical numbers and calculations, when in fact reality is far from theory and much more complicated. In everyday life, additional factors always happen, and these calculations do not work “for one or two”.

Beyond Rule

There are two factors to consider when discussing maximum screen size: screen resolution and distance from the TV screen. Most TVs are 1080p, which is a lot of pixels on a screen. Even on the largest flat screen sizes available today, you can’t see pixels from 2.7 meters away.

If your TV (or projector) is not of high quality, you may see various picture artifacts such as picture noise or poor anti-aliasing, but you are unlikely to see pixels. If you position yourself at a shorter distance to such a TV, then the pixels may become visible (but this is at too close a distance).

This is one of the reasons we think Ultra HD (4K) TVs are “stupid” due to the sheer number of pixels that the human eye can actually see. Technology and mathematics win over organics.

So, very large TVs may not look as good when you are very close to them. It’s good if you’re watching a high quality source like a Blu-ray disc on a 4K player. The most “curve” option is viewing SD or HD content that has undergone upscaling (scaling).

Another factor is the dominance of the room over the available space. Naturally, this is a purely subjective factor. The question is, what is the largest TV that “should” take up space in your room to prevent it from becoming the dominant device in the room (figuratively and literally)?

You can go the simple way. Print or cut out of cardboard a TV screen of the appropriate size that you dream of or know its physical dimensions from the characteristics, and place the “mockup” in the installation location. So to say, really look. But you need to take into account the moment that in fact the TV will be a little larger than your cardboard. Of course, it depends on your room, decor and the opinions of your loved ones, which is worth considering.

In our opinion, the recommendations of organizations such as SMPTE and THX are somewhat too high for 4K TVs to be taken as a basis. In addition, we did not consider the option that if 2 or 3 viewers simultaneously watch a TV set even with a diagonal of 60 from a one and a half meter distance, then viewing will be uncomfortable due to an increase in the viewing angle. In the end, we tried to consider from a mathematical point of view the question of what distance to the TV is the most convenient for a certain size of the TV diagonal, and talked about the best viewing angle for the TV.

What is the best distance to watch TV and why? | 1a.ee

Television sets have been “living” in our homes for more than half a century. If initially they were rather bulky boxes with a small screen that only a few could afford, today the screen sizes have grown significantly and TVs have become an integral part of every home. But what should you consider when choosing your next TV?

Convenience is everything

When going to the cinema, we always try to choose a seat as close to the center as possible and preferably in the middle or further away, and not in the front rows. This allows you to comfortably watch a movie and see the entire screen at the same time, without turning your head too much and without moving your eyes. This allows us to enjoy the movie and we don’t leave the theater with tired eyes and a headache. The same logic should be used when watching TV at home.

TV viewing distance is important for a pleasant viewing experience. Therefore, it is important that the TV is the right size for your room and can be viewed from a sufficient distance. Therefore, before buying a new TV, you should definitely think about what size TV is comfortable to watch.

Of course, do not forget about the sound system. The soundbar is a convenient solution for those who care about the best sound quality and stylish solution. In addition, it is easy to connect and disconnect. If necessary, the soundbar can also be connected to a computer, it is convenient to take it with you on the road.

Does watching too close a TV hurt your eyesight?

Most of us remember well how our parents would not allow them to sit on the floor in front of the TV, and we had to watch TV from a much further distance than we wanted as children. Now this problem has not disappeared. Even now, babies tend to stand in front of the TV and thus block the view of the rest of the family. We encourage them to watch TV from a greater distance, because subconsciously we continue to believe that watching a big screen from such a distance spoils their eyesight.

Scientists have proven that modern televisions and other screens do not directly cause vision problems. But indirectly, yes. When we are in front of a screen, we consume content that stimulates the brain so much that we forget to blink often enough. Televisions themselves do not cause problems, it is the way we use them that causes them. In addition to the correct distance, the viewing angle is also important. Therefore, it is important to learn the correct handling of screens yourself, as well as teach others.

What is the correct TV viewing distance?

TVs come in different sizes and, accordingly, their viewing range is also different. To find out what distance provides the best viewing experience in your home, you must first know the size of your TV. TVs are usually measured diagonally in inches. One inch corresponds to just over 2.5 centimeters. The recommended TV viewing distance is 1.5 to 2 times the diagonal of the TV. Therefore, to watch a TV with a diagonal of 49inches, you should sit at least 1. 5 meters away, and for a 55-inch TV, at least two meters.

Televisions are divided into groups according to screen characteristics. Depending on the TV screen, the viewing distance also varies significantly. For example, a 4K TV can be viewed closer than the diagonal length without compromising image quality, while the corresponding distance in the case of an HD TV is much greater.

What is the difference between TVs and how far apart are they?

  • A Full HD TV is a TV that transmits full HD video at a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It is widely used in TVs, monitors, video projectors and game consoles. Full-HD transmits both SDTV images (corresponding to the resolution of analog television) and HDTV images. It is recommended to watch a Full-HD TV at a distance of 2-3 times further than the diagonal of the TV (so for a 60-inch TV this distance is from two and a half to four meters).
  • 4K TVs are also known as UHD (Ultra High Definition) TVs. The resolution of their images is even higher – 3840×2160 pixels. The 4K symbol indicates that compared to a Full-HD TV, a UHD TV has 4 times more pixels in a single frame. Since there are many more dots in the picture, you can also watch this TV more closely. However, the recommended distance is 1 to 2.5 diagonals (two to three meters for a 60-inch TV).
  • In addition to high resolution, QLED TVs also have very good color quality. QLED screens are always bright enough, and thanks to LED technology, they also have a longer lifespan. As far as viewing distance is concerned, for a QLED TV, it is similar to a 4K TV – from 1.5 to 2.5 diagonal sizes.

An important role is played by the viewing angle

In addition to the viewing distance, the angle at which the TV is viewed is also very important.
