Projection Perfection!
This is my 3rd Epson projector. They last a long time, produce great images, powerful brightness and easy setup and calibration. It does a great job for night time viewing. Contrast and sharpness could be a bit better, fan noise can be quite high, depending on which setting is used, but at this price point, it would be hard to find a better projector. Paired with a inexpensive screen, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Super Bright
Got this for Christmas as a gift. I love it, it super bright at 50% brightness and the quality is amazing. One feature I would have liked to have is the ability to play a mp4 home video from a usb stick

As good as 1080P gets!
I have only owned one projector before this, but it has been a few years since then. That projector was so good that it ended up only being used for Halloween displays. I have a OLED TV in my living room right now, but was looking for something bigger to watch when we have company over. I started looking at projectors, because upsizing my television would only gain 10″ diagonally at a significant cost. I decided that I would try a 1080p projector because it would not replace my TV, and 4K units are twice as expensive. After a lot of research the Epson Home Cinema 1080 ended up as my first choice. Epson obviously made big changes from the 800 series projector which reviewers criticized because it had only 1 HDMI port and no zoom, in exchange for greater lumen output. This projector keeps the increased output, and adds another 100 lumens. The 1080 also gets zoom, and 2 HDMI ports. Another big plus is that it has built in WIFI.
Unboxing the projector led me to a quick setup of roughly 10 minutes. I was actually shocked at the brightness of the picture, I was able to see clear sharp images projected onto a denim colored wall, in a bright room. The cooling fan while not silent , is far from distracting. I was initially dubious about the manufactures claim of a 300″ image. The projector did easily reach that size, on the default brightness. The colors are well saturated, with good contrast even on the dark wall. Even fast motion appeared smooth with no blurring or edge staggering. Image correction is a breeze , with a broad range of settings on the projector and remote.
One of the concerns I had about projectors was the cost of maintenance. Online prices for replacement lamps left me at ease, with lamps selling for as little as $50. I know that this review makes this projector seem perfect. I think the picture and features are fantastic for the price, but there are a couple of weak points. Unless you are using HDMI, you are stuck with RCA jacks as part of composite input for audio, or you connect your audio via a headphone jack. Choose one or the other, because the projector’s built in speaker sounds like a homemade tinfoil kazoo. I opted to use the headphone jack connected to a Yamaha sound bar, and am very satisfied with the results. If you can live with the audio limitations, this projector gets you the most 1080p bang, for any buck. The image quality and size capability of this projector cannot be beat dollar for dollar by the competition. I’m keeping mine. Perfect!
This projector is amazing! It’s exactly what my family needed for our movie nights. It is really easy to set up and get started. Right out of the box you can tell it’s modern and well put together. The remote is a little bulky for people used to modern Roku’s, but it does the job. The projector itself has a nice selection of inputs, which allows virtually anything to be displayed. The built in slider in place of lens cap is a welcome change. The adjustment sliders on top make size and angle easier to adjust than just a remote. The sliders also have a “snap” spot at center so you can easily reset them to 0.
The keystone tries to auto adjust when you change angle, and that’s so helpful! Since there is only one adjustable stand in the front, you need it to be on a solid surface to have it balanced right. Otherwise it did the job just fine. It was easy to focus and bright on the wall even with daylight coming in the windows.
In conclusion, this projector is top of the line and a welcomed update! It has made watching movies and videos so much easier in our home. This is a review for the Epson Home Cinema 1080 3LCD projector that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

Great Video, Terrible Audio
I bought this device as an outdoor movie projector. Beautiful video. However, the audio is terrible. Plus, there is no bluetooth or modern audio output plugs. I wish I had known. The audio output plus only uses a RCA audio output. Very few modern speakers even have the ability to use RCA. It is almost like Epson never updated the audio output design from 10-15 years ago. Very disappointing given the price of this.

Stunning Projector!
After using this projector, I’m extremely impressed! The first thing I love about this projector is how easy it was to set up out of the box. Using the included remote, it was easy to to customize the settings and adjust the projector according to my preferences. The next important feature to point out about this projector is how sleek it looks. The projector has a beautiful white appearance. I appreciate that there are buttons on the unit as well. This makes it easy to adjust my projector if my remote runs out of batteries.
The next key area worth discussing is the clarity and performance of the projector itself. The projector’s picture is clean and crisp. I am able to see even the finest details on the projector’s screen. I’m also amazed at how bright the projector’s LED light is. The picture is super bright on my wall. I’ve also been quite impressed with how quickly the projector starts up and shuts off. It only takes a few seconds for the fan to get up to speed as well as gradually shut down when I want to turn it off.
Another important area worth mentioning about this projector is how many devices it is compatible with. There’s plenty of ports on the back of the projector including AV slots, USB slots, HDMI ports, etc. This feature works great for plugging in an external streaming stick! Another feature that I really appreciate about this projector is the fact that there is a manufacturer-created app available on my iPhone, iPad, or MacBook that can be used to stream content wirelessly onto my projector! Using this app, I’m able to view and share pictures and websites. On the iPhone Epson projection app, I can even show live video from my phone’s camera. Overall, I’m very pleased with this projector and would highly recommend it to anyone in search of a high-quality projector that’s fit for any movie! I’ve never seen a projector with such great picture quality! This is a review for the Epson Home Cinema 1080 3LCD projector that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

fit your image onto a screen you need a projection calculator tool or throw chart to tell you the image size dimensions at the corresponding
throw distance.
Calculating an Image Size when you know the THROW DISTANCE
To determine the Image Size (screen size) enter a distance measurement number in the Throw Distance value box and hit the Enter
key on your keyboard, or slide the Throw Distance slider back and forth until you find a number in the value box that represents the
distance between the lens of the projector and the surface of the screen. On the graphical representation of a screen in the middle of the
calculator, you will see dimension lines that will tell you the height, width, and diagonal measurements of your image.
Calculating a Throw Distance when you know the IMAGE SIZE
To determine the Throw Distance for where you should place your projector in the room, enter an image diagonal measurement number in the Image Size
value box and hit the Enter key on your keyboard, or slide the Image Size slider back and forth until you find a number in the value box that
represents the diagonal distance between the top right corner of your image (screen) and the bottom left corner of your image (screen). On
the graphical representation of a projector in the middle of the calculator, you will see dimension lines that will tell you the Throw Distance
measurement between the front of the projector lens and the surface of your wall or screen.
Using the Zoom Range Slider
If your selected projector has a Zoom Lens then the projector’s Throw Distance or Image Size can be finely adjusted by moving the
Zoom Lens ring on your projector. The Zoom Range slider in the calculator will help you calculate the changes made by a Zoom Lens.
Using the blue padlock icons next to the Throw Distance value or Image Size value you can have
the Zoom Range slider only affect one of the two controls. If you press the blue padlock icon next to the Throw Distance value so that the
icon shows a Lock symbol, then moving the Zoom Slider will only adjust the Image Size bigger or smaller as would be visually represented if
you turned the Zoom Lens ring on your projector’s zoom lens to make the image bigger or smaller. If you click the padlock next to the Image Size
value so that the icon shows a Lock symbol, then moving the Zoom Slider will only adjust the Throw Distance position of the projector
in your room. The position of the projector in your room changes because you will need to move the projector closer or further away from the screen
to maintain the same image size to match your screen when turning the zoom lens ring.
Choosing a home projector: let’s see what Epson offers
Line update
Epson’s refreshed line of home projectors includes two new top-of-the-line Full HD projectors, a new affordable Full HD model, and a vibrant HD Ready entertainment/gaming projector.
At the International Consumer Electronics Show IFA 2013 held in Berlin in early September 2013, Epson introduced an updated line of home projectors. At the moment, all current projectors from Epson are based on translucent LCD matrices of their own production. Home projector class led by top-end Full HD models – EH-TW9200 and EH-TW7200, designed for watching movies in 2D and 3D modes. Note that the high brightness of these projectors allows you to get an excellent image quality on large screens even in stereoscopic mode. The EH-TW9200 projector has an all-black body, which will go well with a properly prepared cinema room, where the walls, floor and even the ceiling must be darkened.
The body of the EH-TW7200, on the other hand, is white, which is more suitable for an ordinary room with a light ceiling, which is only occasionally used for watching movies.
In the case of the top model EH-TW9200, there is a modification with a W at the end of the model designation – the EH-TW9200W projector.
This version has a black and white body and, in addition to the variety in appearance, supports wireless video reception (up to 1080p). For wireless video transmission to this projector, a special transmitter is used that operates in the 60 GHz frequency band and provides wireless video signal transmission up to 10 m.
MHL, one HDMI output and an optical output for connecting an external speaker system.
The transmitter also has a USB port that can be used to charge stereo glasses.
Unfortunately, due to problems with obtaining permission from the relevant services, this bundle of the EH-TW9200W projector and wireless transmitter will not be officially delivered to Russia, which, however, does not exclude gray supplies and semi-legal home use.
The main specifications of the EH-TW9200 and EH-TW7200 projectors are shown in the table below:
EH-TW9200 | EH-TW7200 | |
Luminous flux | 2400 lm | 2000 lm |
Contrast (dynamic) | 600,000:1 | 120000:1 |
Lens | Central location, zoom 2.1x
Lens shift | ±96.3% vertical and ±47.1% horizontal
Lens shutter | Motorized
Frame interpolation | Yes | No |
Projector noise level | 32dB / 22dB (Normal / Eco)
Rechargeable Active RF 3D Glasses | 2 pairs | 1 pair |
ISF | Yes | No |
Anamorphic lens support | Yes | No |
Both projectors are equipped with high-quality Fujinon lenses, have Super-resolution function that sharpens low-resolution images, and can convert 2D images to stereoscopic. The set of interfaces has not changed compared to the previous top model EH-TW9000 – two HDMI inputs, component and composite video inputs, a VGA input, an input for remote control via RS-232C and a trigger output.
Recall that the stereoscopic glasses of Epson 3D projectors are synchronized via a radio channel, the transmitter is installed inside the projector, so there is no port for an external synchronizer. The main advantage of RF synchronization lies in the separation of the control channels for the projector and the operation of the glasses – commands from the IR remote control are not clogged with powerful IR pulses from the synchronizer. The glasses remain functional at a distance of up to 10 m from the projector, which is enough for any home theater, given the fact that only front projection is used in the house, that is, the projector in any case will not be located very far from the viewer.
The glasses are certified by the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative, so Epson projectors are compatible with glasses from other manufacturers, and vice versa, Epson glasses can be used with other devices that support this protocol.
In Russia, both projectors come with an official two-year warranty. This, plus the long typical lamp life of 4,000 hours in bright mode and 5,000 hours in eco mode, gives the user less worry about the performance of these projectors.
The above top-end EH-TW9200 and EH-TW7200 projectors are essentially minor modifications of previous models. In addition to them, Epson has released an entry-level Full HD home projector that has no direct analogues among models of previous years. This is an Epson EH-TW5200 projector.
Its main features are shown in the table below:
Epson EH-TW5200 | |
Luminous flux | 2000 lm |
Contrast (dynamic) | 15000:1 |
Lens | Central location |
Keystone correction | Automatic vertical and manual horizontal |
Speaker | Built-in loudspeaker 2 W |
This projector is equipped with two HDMI inputs, a VGA input and an RCA composite video input for connection to signal sources.
At the same time, one of the HDMI inputs supports the MHL interface, that is, using a simple passive Micro-USB cable, you can output a picture with sound to the projector from a mobile device – from a smartphone or tablet. Unfortunately, in the case of an alternative in the form of Mobility DisplayPort, an appropriate adapter is indispensable. Audio can be fed to the projector digitally via HDMI inputs and analog via a pair of RCA connectors. The audio signal from the EH-TW5200 is output to an external system via a 3.5mm mini jack. The USB port allows you to connect external drives to the projector and display pictures from them in JPG format, and by purchasing an optional Wi-Fi adapter connected to the same port, the user will be able to wirelessly transfer an image to the projector from a personal computer and even from a smartphone and tablet by first installing a special and free application on these devices.
This projector is equipped with a very easy-to-use lens shutter and a slider on the body that performs manual keystone correction. Of course, it is possible to correct vertical keystone distortion both manually and by turning on the mode with automatic correction. These two types of correction partly compensate for the lack of lens shift, that is, even if the projector is not installed exactly in the center of the screen, you can still achieve the correct image geometry due to some loss in image clarity.
The EH-TW5200 supports stereoscopic image display using frame interleaved for each eye, while viewing 3D requires the use of shutter glasses that are synchronized as in the case of older models via RF channel. As one of the important features of the EH-TW5200, the manufacturer highlights the presence of a special game mode with a very low time delay. In theory, in the case of dynamic games, this will allow the player to improve their results and get more pleasure from playing on the big screen.
As a result, the Epson EH-TW5200 projector can claim the title of a universal entertainment projector, suitable for both watching movies and playing games, and both can be done in 3D mode. Price may be an added bonus, as Epson plans to make this projector one of the most affordable Full HD projectors in the class.
Epson’s low-end home projector upgrade meets new 720p model, the EH-TW49 projector0.
Its main features are shown in the table below:
Epson EH-TW490 | |
Luminous flux | 3000 lm |
Contrast (dynamic) | 12000:1 |
Keystone correction | Automatic vertical and manual horizontal |
Speaker | Built-in loudspeaker 2W |
Like its predecessor, the EH-TW490 is small and light but bright enough to watch movies/cartoons or play games on a large enough screen even in dimmed rooms.
Epson’s initiative, which is very unusual for the Russian market, deserves special mention – in the case of the EH-TW5200 and EH-TW490 projectors, an impressive lamp warranty is installed equal to 3 years or 3000 hours whichever comes first. It’s no secret that many consumers looking to purchase a projector for use at home are put off by the limited life of the lamp, which in a particular case may be less than the advertised life, and the relatively high price of a new lamp. The specified warranty conditions can largely mitigate the severity of this moment, and often save the user from having to purchase a new lamp, up to the voluntary replacement of the projector with a new, more advanced model.

Summing up, it can be noted that the update of the Epson home projector line is not revolutionary. The most striking event is the brand new EH-TW5200 projector, which is distinguished primarily by the expected relatively low price. But for a leading company, this is not enough, because in our modern world, just to stay in place, you need to not just run, but run very fast. The projection equipment market is very dynamic and very competitive. Of course, Epson feels confident in the niche of home projectors, but the pressure of competitors is present from both sides: in the lower segment from inexpensive single-chip DLP projectors, in the upper segment from projectors on reflective LCD matrices. The EH-TW5200 is a promising bid for a large market share of entry-level Full HD projectors, but Epson’s presence is virtually non-existent in the highest segment. It is unlikely that this situation will last for a long time, so we are waiting for elite projectors from Epson, including those with 4K resolution. It would also be very interesting to see Epson projectors with alternative light sources, primarily with LEDs, and, as an option, with lasers. Epson does not hide the fact that they have developments in all these areas, so the Epson revolution may not be far off.
