Wolf oven countertop: Elite Countertop Oven with Convection

Elite Countertop Oven with Convection

Item number: WGCO150S

Suggested Retail Price: $949

Introducing Wolf Gourmet’s most advanced countertop oven yet.

Wolf Gourmet’s most advanced countertop oven offers all the benefits of a Wolf oven in a compact, energy-efficient form, plus new features that make countertop cooking even more convenient. The Wolf Gourmet elite countertop convection oven bakes, broils, roasts, proofs, toasts, heats bagels and warms food quickly and evenly, thanks to five heating elements, intuitive controls and advanced electronics. The interior is spacious enough to fit most 9” x 13” stoneware dishes or a 5½ pound chicken. Packed with upgrades like halogen interior lighting, a “Bagel” setting that toasts the cut side and warms the other, a fully removable oven rack system for easy cleaning and an extra smooth-glide cooking rack for cooking flexibility, you’ll enjoy discovering all the little luxuries this countertop oven has to offer.

A Wolf Oven in Countertop Form

Get the precision, quality, and look of a Wolf oven in one countertop-friendly appliance. The elite countertop convection oven boasts heritage Wolf features like interior lighting, advanced convection, temperature control, and an integrated temperature probe.

7 Cooking Modes

Seven cooking modes – Bake, Roast, Broil, Warm, Proof, Bagel and Toast – offer the cooking flexibility to make everything from cheesy garlic-parmesan crostini to broiled lamb chops.

Advanced Convection Cooking
Unique perimeter convection thoroughly circulates heated air for even baking and faster cooking, reducing cooking time by up to twenty-five percent. Convection can be used in roast or bake mode with a simple press of the button.

Integrated Temperature Probe
Cook an herb-crusted roast, balsamic-glazed chicken, or a sourdough boule to your preferred internal temperature. The probe gives you precise control over the temperature of your food without opening the oven door. Keep an eye on the oven temperature as well as the probe temperature on the LCD display.

High-Performance Temperature Control
Temperature is finely tuned and uniquely calibrated for the best cooking performance in each cooking mode. Intuitive controls allow for simple selection of cooking mode, time and function. Five heating elements and advanced electronics deliver more even cooking performance for baking, broiling and roasting every time.

Interior Halogen Light
The interior halogen light gently illuminates the countertop oven’s interior, so you can quickly and easily see how your food is progressing without having to open the door.

Two Easy-Glide Oven Racks
Sized to fit quarter sheet pans and most 9” x 13” stoneware dishes, each oven rack slides in and out smoothly, putting your food within reach easily and safely just like a Wolf range. Three rack positions offer flexibility for broiling, baking, and toasting.

Easy to Clean
Drips and splatters wipe away effortlessly from the BPA and PFOA free nonstick interior. Now the entire oven rack system is fully removable, simplifying the cleaning process. The stainless steel crumb/drip tray also slides out for easy cleaning and is dishwasher safe.

What’s Included
In addition to two easy-glide oven racks, this countertop convection oven includes a temperature probe, baking pan with broiling rack insert and fully removable oven rack system, so you can get cooking right away.

Wolf Gourmet Countertop Oven review: beautiful and durable

I love countertop ovens because they’re the ultimate convenience appliances. I can’t tell you how many times I would order take-out or delivery because I didn’t want to be bothered with a big, bulky oven heating up my kitchen – which in turn, caused my HVAC to work harder in the summer months. (And since I live in Birmingham, AL, almost every month feels like summer.)

However, the Wolf Gourmet Elite Countertop Oven isn’t just a countertop oven – it’s the Mercedes Benz, BMW, or Porsche of countertop ovens. I’ve had it for over two years, and although I’ve tested dozens of the best toaster ovens, Wolf remains my favorite, and it’s the one that is always on my countertop when I’m not in testing mode.

In over two years of nearly-daily usage, the Wolf Gourmet Elite Countertop Oven still looks and functions remarkably well. It has a relatively simple interface, so there’s not a lot of guesswork involved. Admittedly, it’s an expensive choice but made with the quality and features you would expect from Wolf.

First impressions

I’ve had the Wolf Gourmet Elite Countertop Oven since February, 2020, so I can’t tell you about the unboxing process, but it was packaged well. I do remember being impressed with the oven’s design – and quite frankly, I still am.

On the inside of the oven, the oven crumb tray (which slides out) is on the bottom, and above it is the removable oven rack. The two removable backing racks are inserted into the oven rack. On the top right side of the oven is a place for the temperature probe jack.

Also included are a baking pan, broil rack, and temperature probe. In addition, Wolf includes a user’s manual and a recipe book.

The control display panel shows a variety of information, including the oven’s temperature, timer settings, and probe temperature settings. When making toast, the display also shows the number of slices and the selected shade settings.

A convection icon turns on next to the temperature gauge on the digital display. Convection is best used to help brown the meat, while keeping the interior moist. Next to the convection button is the probe button, which is used when you insert the thermometer.

The knobs are one of my favorite parts of the Wolf Gourmet Oven – probably because red is my favorite color. However, the knobs are also available in black and also in brushed silver. The top knob (or selector bezel) can be rotated to select between proof, warm, roast, bake, broil or toast/bagel mode.

The bottom knob or bezel can be turned to the left or right to increase or decrease the temperature in cooking mode – and also to select the number of slices to toast

Below the bezels (and to the right) is the small oven light button, which can be turned on or off.

Broiling chicken thighs

For the first “official” test, I broiled Thai Chicken Thighs (purchased at Sprouts Farmers Market). Full disclosure, I hate waiting on the preheat function, so I tend to broil most of my food since the broil function doesn’t require preheating the oven (and also because broiling is quicker anyway).

In broil mode, I can either choose a high or low temperature setting. It defaults to high, and that’s what I used. After starting the oven, it will default to the maximum time of 20 minutes. However, after the broiling cycle has started, I can always turn the knob to increase the cooking time if I need to. The finished chicken thighs were tender and juicy, and given how little prep time was needed, I was very happy with the finished result.

Baking cookies

I chose the baking feature to make chocolate chip cookies in the oven. Although I just baked six for this test, I love that the countertop oven could hold a much larger quantity, so I can bake anything in sizes up to a 9 x 13 baking dish, and even put large muffin tins, pie plates, and loaf pans in it.

To bake the cookies I merely selected bake, set the timer for 13 minutes, and pressed the start button. It really was that easy. The finished cookies were gooey and chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside.

However, I probably could have baked them for just 11 or 12 minutes. Like the best air fryers, it is worth noting that convection toaster ovens will often speed up the cooking time of your food because they circulate hot air around the food, instead of just sitting the food in the ambient temperature of an oven.

Cooking pork chops

The final test was roasting pork chops in the Wolf Gourmet Countertop Oven. The default roast setting is 350 degrees, and I roasted the pork chops at this temperature. In the photo above, notice that the roast setting, temperature, and time remaining on the timer are all displayed on the dial.

After the timer went off, I put the oven on the convection setting since I wanted the pork chops to be browned as well. The finished chops excellently show how the roast mode maximizes browning while maintaining an evenly cooked and delicious cut of meat.

How to clean the Wolf Gourmet Countertop Oven

The countertop oven is simple to maintain and clean. I just wipe the control panel display with a slightly-damped sponge, and I wipe the stainless steel exterior with a damp microfiber cloth. For the interior, oven racks and the knobs, I use a damp, soapy cloth. The crumb/drip tray, baking pan, and broil racks are all dishwasher safe, although I wash them in soapy water in the sink.

How does it compare?

The Wolf Gourmet Elite Countertop Oven is part of the Wolf countertop appliance set that is always on my countertop when I’m not testing products. So obviously, I really, really like it and consider it to be the very best countertop oven that money can buy.

It doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles like some competitors. For example, June makes the smartest oven that I’ve tested:  it has a touchscreen interface, camera on the inside that recognizes food and makes onscreen recommendations regarding how to cook, and can be controlled by my smartphone. The Brava Oven is quite similar in function.

Both of those ovens are quite expensive. However, there are also nonsmart ovens that offer more cooking features, like separate cooking functions for pizza and cookies, as well as a reheat function – and quite frankly don’t cost as much as the Wolf Gourmet Elite Countertop Oven.

However, I found the Wolf to be matchless in quality. It’s a relatively heavy countertop oven, and you can both see and feel the quality in each of the oven’s components.

Should you buy the Wolf Gourmet Countertop Oven?

If you’re looking for an economically-priced countertop oven, I’m afraid you’ll need to keep looking to find something that fits your budget. However, if you want the top of the line in these appliances, as well as the assurance that it won’t start smoking, and the buttons won’t stop working or fall off in a few months – or a few years –  this is the one.

About this review, and our reviewer

Terri hates cooking – but loves testing kitchen appliances. She’s tested over a dozen countertop ovens, and has written buying guides on countertop ovens and other kitchen appliances and home goods for several popular websites.

Terri has had the Wolf Gourmet Elite Countertop Oven since February, 2020, so she’s been able to test it long-term, and if necessary, will provide updates on the appliance’s performance.

Granite and marble barbecue tops in Moscow from Old-stone group

Meat, fish and vegetable dishes cooked on the heat of glowing coals on a granite barbecue top have a special flavor and aroma. And all thanks to natural processing – just the right stove, dishes and granite barbecue top. The latter is given special attention – the proximity of the hearth, constant heating and operation in the open are taken into account. For such conditions, the best option is a granite barbecue top from the Old-stone group of companies, the price in Moscow is from 6500 rubles / mp.

The design of the oven includes a heat-resistant coating that can be used as a cutting room. Everything is at arm’s length – a brazier, a sink, a dining area and under the open sky. A canopy can protect a granite countertop for a barbecue from the sun and precipitation, but it will not save you from frost, heat, wind, high humidity and mechanical damage. That is why textures are chosen very carefully. Granite fits perfectly and meets extreme operating conditions.

Outdoor granite BBQ tops are unbeatable, years of heavy use leave no scratches, chips, scuffs, cracks or other deformations. They winter well in the open air, delighting with dishes on coals all year round. The high density of the rock ensures the resistance of granite barbecue countertops to ultraviolet radiation, temperature and humidity changes. Sauces, juices, acids and alkalis do not leave a mark on the surface. You can clean it with any SMS.

A granite BBQ top effectively complements the oven and adjacent cabinet, lined with stone or refractory bricks. All together is a single design, looks natural and spectacular. Imagine a compact stove lined with wild stone, next to a sink, a built-in cabinet and a mini-fridge, plus a common Metalicus granite countertop that connects it all. Gray Brazilian stone has a unique pattern in which one can guess the seascape, coal mines or frozen, already blackened magma. Another interesting option is Golden Dream granite, which looks like baked desert sand, in a soft yellow-brown hue with a characteristic dune pattern.

Marble barbecue top

Barbecue with a canopy can be equipped with a marble top. In terms of its fire-resistant and hygienic characteristics, it is not inferior to granite, but requires caution when using. Marble BBQ countertop from Old-stone (Moscow) is not an all-weather option. Leaving it uncovered for the winter is not recommended. It is advisable to use under a canopy, carefully handle products containing acids and alkalis, as well as caustic pigments.
But marble is more aesthetic and presentable. Sunny Dark marble barbeque top with its characteristic cloudy ornament illuminated by the setting sun will decorate a summer kitchen in Moorish or Mediterranean style.

Three ways to build a budget PC in 2023 (all prices)

Modern AAA class games are not only a beautiful picture and realistic graphics, but also a captivating and thoughtful plot. These are also high requirements for the hardware of the computer, because without proper performance it will simply not be possible to enjoy all the beauties of top games.

“Everything is expensive, it’s better to wait until everything gets better,” some will say. Given the sanctions pressure on Russia, as well as the growing shortage of microcircuits with renewed vigor, it will take a very, very long time to wait for better times. Our advice: if there are financial opportunities and a great desire to purchase (assemble) a powerful gaming computer for yourself, you should not put this matter on the back burner. In turn, we have prepared for you three optimal budget, mid-range and top-class PC builds that are perfect for modern gaming.

*All prices are valid for May 2022

Initial assembly – up to 50,000 rubles

A year and a half ago, budget PC assembly was firmly associated with a range of 30-35 thousand rubles. However, today the threshold for entering the gaming zone has risen significantly. This is due not only to the unstable currency situation in Russia due to more than 10,000 imposed sanctions, but also to the global rise in prices for microelectronics.

A budget build means gaming at medium-high graphics settings with an image resolution of no higher than Full HD, with a margin of “strength” for a couple of years ahead. Here’s what it includes.

9 0046 Drive (SSD)
Components Model Specification in DNS)
CPU AMD Ryzen 3 1200 AF 4(4 ) x 3.4 GHz 7199
Motherboard GIGABYTE B450M DS3H (rev. 1.x) Micro-ATX 4199

Memory (RAM) XPG Gammix D10 from A-DATA 16 GB (2×8) 5499
CPU cooler DeepCool Gammaxx 200T 100 W 1150
Power Supply FSP Group ATX-500PNR PRO 500 W 3467
Team Group CX1 (SATA) or Kingston NV1 PCI-E 3 (M . 2) 480/500 GB 4099 / 4650

GIGABYTE B450M motherboard

Our build will be based on the GIGABYTE B450M DS3H (rev. 1.x) is an excellent solution in terms of price / quality ratio. An abundance of outputs for peripherals, 4 slots for DDR4 RAM (up to 64 GB), two PCI-E X16 for installing video cards, 4 SATA 6 Gb / s ports + 1 slot for a fast M.2 drive, a good power subsystem and the presence of radiators cooling for power elements. Since a gaming PC is not considered as such without the presence of LED backlighting, the board provides a connector for connecting LEDs with a power of up to 36 watts.

Processor AMD Ryzen 3 1200 AF

The main advantage of this solution is a good supply of power at a very affordable price. Four cores and four CPU threads with a frequency of up to 3.1 GHz, overclocked to 3.4 GHz in Turbo Core, easily “digest” modern game projects, providing a stable frame rate and frame time. Since the name of the CPU contains the bailiff AF, this means that it does not have an integrated video core and it costs less. We are assembling a gaming computer with a graphics card, so this savings is reasonable.

To save a little more, you should purchase the Ryzen 3 1200 AF in OEM modification, that is, without the default cooler. It is better to use this budget for the purchase of a normal tower cooling system. For example, DeepCool Gammaxx 200T with a power dissipation of up to 100 W will do an excellent job of removing heat from the processor (TDP of the chip 65 W).

XPG Gammix D10 RAM

The minimum threshold for entering the gaming zone is 16 GB of RAM. Given the 4 slots on the motherboard, there is a margin for a future system upgrade. XPG Gammix D10 from A-DATA is perhaps the best solution with a clock speed of 3000 MHz and timings of 16-18-18. Judging by the reviews, the RAM is perfectly overclocked to 3400 MHz (16-19−19−37), and also remains cold due to the presence of cooling radiators.

GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card

A regular in budget builds is, of course, the good old GTX 1050 Ti. Model Palit GeForce GTX 1050 Ti StormX with 4 GB of video memory is a decent gaming solution for Full HD resolution. The advantage of this modification is that it is compact, energy efficient and inexpensive (by modern standards).

Power supply, drive, housing

The key to a stable and reliable system is a quality power supply. Despite the entire budget of the assembly, it is not worth saving on this component. This does not mean that you need to take a top solution with high power and all possible types of certificates / protection. For example, the 500W FSP Group ATX-500PNR PRO will do the job just fine, especially since our build needs no more than 250W.

As a hard drive, it is better to take a 500 GB SSD, since modern games are already demanding on drives, and HDD speeds are often not enough for them. Within 5000 – 7000 rubles, there are many worthy solutions, and WD Green and WD Blue are in special demand. We suggest looking at the Team Group CX1. Other things being equal, this SSD has twice the write resource (TWB) up to 400 TB – this is if you take it with a SATA connection. Since the mat. The board has an M.2 slot, it is logical to take the Kingston NV1 as an SSD, which is in high demand among buyers.

It’s not worth spending money on an expensive case if you’re short on money. It is possible to place all the components for the first time even in a used case, but if we consider a new purchase, then the budget of 2000 rubles will be enough.

Balanced build – up to 70000 rubles

Decent option for ultra graphics settings at Full HD resolution. Here’s what we found.

Motherboard ASUS PRIME B560M-A

Excellent a choice that will last for years to come. Four memory slots (up to 128 GB), six SATA 6 Gb/s ports, two M. 2 slots (PCI-E 3.0 + 4.0), PCI-E x16 ver 4 graphics card slot with metal shroud, powerful heatsinks on power elements they talk about the premium nature of the product.

Processor, memory and cooling

The Intel Core i5-11400 °F offers a powerful 6 cores and 12 threads, but again without an integrated video core (why pay for something that will not be used?). The overclocking potential of the stone is small, but the base turbo boost up to 4.4 GHz is enough for most games and work tasks. The processor is cold, only 65 W, which means it does not need an expensive cooler.

As RAM, you can take the same 16 GB XPG Gammix D10 with two sticks (to achieve dual-channel mode). For cooling, the folk DEEPCOOL GAMMAXX 300 FURY with up to 130 W of heat will fit.

Video card GeForce GTX 1650

Budget up to 70,000 rubles allows you to install a full-fledged gaming solution Palit GeForce GTX 1650 GP with 4 GB GDDR6 memory. The card is quiet and cool due to two coolers and a large aluminum heatsink, but no RGB lighting. Alas, something more serious in the price segment up to 30,000 rubles cannot be found now. The cost of a more productive GeForce GTX 1660 in the Russian market starts from 38,000 rubles.

Power supply, drive, housing

For the possibility of a future upgrade, it is better to take a more powerful PSU, considering options over 500 watts. The SYSTEM POWER 9 600W (576 W on a 12-volt line) looks good here with an 80 Plus Bronze certificate and active PFC. Quiet and reliable, but there is a minus due to the sheathing of cables – they are harsh.

You can take the same drive as in the budget assembly (applies to both SATA and M.2), but you can fork out for the case. The ideal solution (although everyone has their own tastes) would look Cougar MX330-G with a transparent tempered glass side cover that allows for competent cable management.

Flagship assembly – up to 200,000 rubles

The solution for those who don’t have enough 2K resolution and want to enjoy gaming in ultra resolution in 4K. Collected on both Intel and AMD.

Motherboard, processor and cooling

For fans of the “red” is best to consider a bunch of AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and motherboard ASRock X570 Pro4. We offer Intel Core i7-11700KF to blue adherents together with MSI MAG Z590 TORPEDO. Both options are practically not inferior to each other both in terms of technical capabilities, performance, and cost.

Both the first and second options will be cooled by the DEEPCOOL AS500 Plus, which easily dissipates up to 220 W of heat (TDP for AMD is 105 W, and for Intel 125 W). 2 fans, 5 heatpipes and RGB lights included.

Video card and memory

The main accessory of the assembly is the most powerful video card GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 3060 ELITE (LHR) 12 GB (Rev 2.0). This is one of the best offers on the market with a graphics core frequency of up to 1870 MHz, allowing you to enjoy 4K resolution in all games. Naturally, not everywhere there will be 60 fps on ultra graphics settings, but for 70,000 rubles the best performance cannot be found now. Three cooling coolers and a backlight give not only a neat appearance, but also quiet operation.

Top assembly – top memory. And here you need at least 32 GB, which means you can take two 16 GB sticks (2 slots will remain in reserve) Thermaltake TOUGHRAM XG RGB. Chic design, RGB, and also a clock frequency of up to 4000 MHz at the peak.

Straight Power 11 Power Supply

A model from be quiet!, a proven manufacturer of reliable and relatively affordable solutions. The video card requires a minimum PSU of 650 W, but due to the need for headroom and quiet operation, it is unreasonable to take something back to back. Straight Power 11 from be quiet! delivers up to 850 watts with 80 PLUS Gold protection and extremely high level 9 efficiency3%. Plus, the PSU has a modular cable system.

Drive and case

Our motherboards support PCI-E 4. 0, which means you shouldn’t miss this moment – let’s take the corresponding SSD. The top 1TB WD Black SN850, which provides maximum write and read speeds of 7000 MB/s and 5300 MB/s, fits perfectly into the required parameters. Moreover, you need to buy an SSD without a radiator, since both motherboards already have it.

With a case, everyone is free to choose for himself, but if you take something in between, then the Abkoncore Cronos 710S will do just fine. He has enough space for cable management, and tempered glass, and direct blowing for good cooling is available.

Differences between work and gaming computer

When it comes to buying a desktop computer, the legitimate question is whether to choose a “work computer” or a “gaming computer”. For a person who is not particularly versed in technology, such a choice can confuse for a long time – but what, in fact, is their difference? Let’s figure it out.

Their very main purpose comes from the name – “playing” or “working”. The first one is capable of playing modern games with different graphics quality settings and is aimed at texture processing. The second is aimed at solving certain problems, often tailored for a specific type of work, photoshop, video editing, 3D modeling, design, or all together. Resources allow you to use a gaming computer for work, and a work computer for games, but in this case, the performance will be much lower.

A gaming computer is, first of all, a modern video card, a powerful processor, and a sufficient amount of RAM. The newer and “heavier” the games, the higher the monitor resolution, the higher the quality of the graphics settings in the games, the more powerful and modern hardware is needed. It should also be noted that there are reasonable limits. For example, the use of more than 6 cores in the processor is not required at this time, 16GB of RAM is enough. Anything above is overkill.

A working computer can be presented in various variations. For example, for ordinary office work, a device of average performance is enough (working with text, the Internet), but for highly specific work – like video editing, architectural tasks – machines are used that are much more productive than gaming systems. For example, to add high-quality special effects to a film, or to work with images of huge sizes (or work with several layers), a huge production capacity is needed. Often, such computers are not used for games or entertainment – they are sharpened for their tasks. Depending on the application and the “heaviness” of the project, more cores are required (preferably from 6 cores), more RAM (from 16GB) and a professional video card capable of rendering a huge number of triangles and polygons.

Remember, if you take the time to search, you can always find a good price-performance option, as the prices for such computers are often high.

How to choose a gaming mouse in 2023

How to choose a gaming mouse in 2023 – instructions from Delta Game

  • Sensor type
  • Sensor resolution
  • 900 03 Maximum acceleration and response time

  • Ergonomics and design
  • Keys
  • Wired or wireless?
  • Features and profiles

The mouse is a device that ordinary users buy at random, choosing by appearance. Gamers, on the other hand, do not like this approach, they need a gaming mouse with improved performance, wide functionality and stylish design. The mouse that fits perfectly in your hand and allows you to get ahead of your opponents in any game. In this article, we will analyze the characteristics of a gaming mouse and how to choose one, taking into account the latest trends from manufacturers.

Mice are divided into two types according to the type of sensor – optical and laser. The laser mouse can work on almost any surface, be it a cloth mat, glossy or glass surface. The surface may be uneven, there are no strict requirements here. Another advantage of a laser mouse is its low power consumption, which is why wireless mice almost always use a laser sensor. And most importantly, the laser sensor has a high resolution, which means faster movement of the pointer.

The optical sensor is less sensitive on dusty or dirty surfaces. They do not use motion correction algorithms or predictions, hardware acceleration is disabled, due to this, a mouse with such a sensor moves more accurately. The maximum resolution of such a mouse is much less than that of a laser.

Sensor resolution (DPI/CPI) is one of the main characteristics of a mouse. It means the following – the higher the resolution, the greater the distance the cursor will travel on the screen relative to the distance that the mouse will travel on the surface. Modern mice reach 16000 dpi, but high resolution does not mean high accuracy. Often, 1600 dpi is too much, and shooter players prefer much lower values, such as 800 or 1200 dpi, because it gives better aiming accuracy. High DPI is used in MOBA games. Therefore, do not chase the mouse with the maximum resolution, take the one that suits you.

Response time – a parameter showing the time it takes for a signal to arrive from the mouse to the computer. The lower the response time, the better, in gaming mice it fluctuates within 1 millisecond. Maximum acceleration – acceleration of the mouse, at which it stops feeling the mousepad and scrolls around its axis. Optical mice hold up better in this regard, transmitting accurate readings during sharp movements.

When choosing a mouse, proceed from your type of game – shooters do not need a lot of buttons, they can interfere, and vice versa for strategies and RPGs – additional buttons to which you can bind actions in the game will be very useful. For example, the Razer Naga gaming mouse has 12 side buttons at once. Look at the main keys – the left and right mouse buttons, they should have good tactile feedback.

When choosing a gaming mouse, many people think – to buy a wired or wireless model?

Wired mouse pros:
+ Cheaper than wireless;
+ Less delay time;
+ Stable connection;
+ Lighter than cordless;

Wireless mouse pluses:
+ No cable allows freedom of mouse movement;
+ The lack of cable also improves desktop aesthetics;

Wired mouse cons:
– Cable can get in the way on the table, tangle with other cables and make a mess;

Wireless mouse cons:
– Longer latency than a wired mouse (but not always, many mid to high end wireless mice use low latency technologies such as Logitech’s LightSpeed;
– More expensive than a wired mouse;
– More weight than a wired mouse due to batteries;
– The need to periodically change batteries and keep them at home in reserve so as not to be left without a mouse;

From the above, we can conclude that a wired mouse has more advantages than a wireless one But if the price of a mouse is not a problem for you, you always have spare batteries at home, and your favorite model has low latency, then you should definitely look at a wireless mouse. 0009

Most gaming mice have the ability to program buttons through the included utility. With the help of the program, we can redefine the purpose of the buttons, write certain sequences of commands (macros) to them, such as keyboard shortcuts, setting intervals between clicks and commands to repeat actions. Also in many mice there is a special button for managing DPI profiles – by pressing the button you can change the resolution of the sensor based on the preset modes. Sometimes such a button is combined with a mouse scroll. In backlit mice, you can often change the color of the LEDs and the glow mode.

If the mouse has built-in memory, this will allow you to create profiles and keymaps for different situations/games. You can play with such mice not only at home, but also in a gaming club / with friends, you don’t have to reconfigure anything. Profiles can be stored both in the mouse and on the computer. Recently, cloud storage from manufacturers has also become popular.

We hope this guide will help you choose the perfect gaming mouse for you to serve you for years to come.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to get strong, reliable Wi-Fi. For most homes, the TP-Link Archer AX21 is the best router choice based on our testing — and it’s a Wi-Fi 6 model that costs less than $90. But the best fit for your home network depends on several factors, from the size and layout of your home to the content you stream. We’ve tested dozens of the latest models to help find plenty of good picks for a variety of homes and users.

It’s a particularly good time to make sure that your router is up to snuff. Even as things have opened up again since the early days of the pandemic (and the surge in home internet use that came with it), reliable Wi-Fi at home remains a necessity. The good news is that routers have come a long way in the past few years, with a number of today’s best Wi-Fi router options boasting impressive speeds and features worth investing in.

For starters, there’s a new and improved version of the Wi-Fi standard called 802.11ax — or Wi-Fi 6 — and it boasts faster, more efficient home network performance. On top of that, there’s a growing number of mesh router options that are well worth considering, too, particularly since many of them are far less expensive than the router combo systems that came before them.

Locating local internet providers

Shop around, and you’ll also find new Wi-Fi 6E routers capable of sending signals using newly opened bandwidth in the 6GHz band. Just don’t expect routers like those to come cheap.

All of that means that you’ve got a lot to think about if you’re currently in the market for an upgrade. That’s where we come in. Whether you’re interested in gaming routers, mesh systems, Wi-Fi 6 routers or if you just want something decent that won’t break the bank, we’re here to simplify things and point you in the right direction so that you can find the best Wi-Fi router to manage your needs.

Locating local internet providers

Expect regular updates to this post as we continue testing networking devices periodically. When we find a new router that merits strong consideration, we’ll add it to this list with links to our most recent test data so that you can always find the best router.

How to shop for a Wi-Fi router in 2023

At this point, Wi-Fi 6 is well-entrenched as the de facto standard for the latest Wi-Fi gadgets, so it’s worth getting a Wi-Fi 6 router if you’re looking for something new. Wi-Fi 5 routers will continue to get the job done, and there are a few that stand out as worthwhile budget picks, but you’ll want Wi-Fi 6 for the latest features and fastest speeds.

For smaller homes and apartments with internet speeds of 500Mbps and less, an entry-level Wi-Fi 6 router like the TP-Link Archer AX21 will do a fine job handling your everyday network traffic. If you live in a home with faster, gigabit level speeds, or if you have multiple power users on your network, then it’s worth stepping up to a more powerful midrange model like the Linksys Hydra Pro 6 or the Asus RT-AX86U.

The Eero Pro 6E mesh router is one of a growing number of routers that support Wi-Fi 6E. Devices like those can send signals in the 6GHz band, which offers lots of bandwidth and very little interference.

Ry Crist/CNET

If you live in a larger home or one with multiple stories, then stepping up to a mesh router that can offer better reliability at range makes a lot of sense. You can find a full slate of top picks in my mesh router rundown, but the TP-Link Deco W7200 stands out as an affordable option that tested well. Meanwhile, the Eero Pro 6E is my top mesh pick for homes with a gigabit connection.

That Eero Pro 6E system is one of a growing number of routers that support Wi-Fi 6E, which adds in access to the ultrawide 6GHz band. The only devices that can connect over that band are other Wi-Fi 6E devices, which means that it’s largely free from interference. Wi-Fi 6E is more than most homes probably need, but it’s worth considering if you’re looking for something future-oriented, as the number of home Wi-Fi devices that can connect over 6GHz is expected to grow.

That said, at this point, the smarter play for future-focused shoppers might be to hold out until 2024, when we expect to see the full ratification of Wi-Fi 7, the next big generational update for Wi-Fi. Some manufacturers like TP-Link are jumping the gun with Wi-Fi 7 router releases in 2023, but buying in now seems premature given that the standard isn’t fully ratified yet and there isn’t a Wi-Fi 7 device certification process yet.

How we test Wi-Fi routers

Like a lot of people, I spent the majority of 2020 and 2021 working from home, and that included my router tests. Last year, in 2022, I relocated my home test setup back to our product testing facility in Louisville, Kentucky.

My operating procedure is largely unchanged — I start by setting each router up in a fixed location in our lab, and once it’s up and running, I run a multitude of speed tests from five different rooms nearby. I start in the same room as the router, I run multiple speed tests on a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop with full support for Wi-Fi 6, I log the results in a spreadsheet, then I move to the next room and repeat. Once I’ve run tests in all five rooms, I repeat the entire process, but this time, I start with a fresh connection in the room farthest from the router. Your distance from the router when you first connect will make a difference in how the router handles your connection, so running a split of front-to-back and back-to-front tests helps to keep my averages rooted in real-world results.

I run the entire process detailed above (a front-to-back round of speed tests, followed by a back-to-front round) three separate times: once during morning hours, again in the early afternoon, and once again during evening hours. I also run a separate round of tests to a Wi-Fi 6E device (a Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone). If the router allows me to separate each band into a separate connection, then I’ll run separate rounds of tests for each band to see how they perform when isolated.

After all of that, I’m left with a comprehensive look at how the router’s speeds hold up to different devices across different distances, as well as how the router handles other considerations, like latency. From there, I make sure to evaluate each router’s features and its ease of use, as well as considerations like security standards, smart home compatibility, and overall value relative to the competition.

Best Buy Router [June] 2023 • BestWifiRouterGuide

Your wireless router is in charge of managing all of the data that goes into and out of your house through your internet service provider’s networks (ISP).

And although the top Best Buy routers in Consumer Reports’ evaluations keep things running smoothly, transmitting the material from sources such as Netflix, Disney+, and Xbox Live without a hitch, some models perform far better than others in this regard.

‘If I’m paying for a 200-megabit internet connection, can I really receive data at that speed with my wireless router?’ asks Richard Fisco, director of electronics testing at Consumer Reports. “Is it possible to obtain data at that speed with my wireless router?” A decent Best Buy router can assist you in making certain that the response is yes. It may be necessary to visit a store, however, if you are experiencing problems with dead spots or slow connections, according to Fisco.

As of right now, we have 56 models in our ratings, which are divided into two categories: wireless (also known as single-unit) models and multi-unit mesh WiFi devices.

  • Best WiFi 6 Router
  • Best Mesh Router

A single-unit Best Buy router is a device that connects directly to your modem. In addition to a central device that connects to the modem, mesh WiFi routers include one or two satellites that may be strategically placed throughout your home. The units then “speak” to one another, resulting in the formation of a mesh network.

A single Best Buy router is usually sufficient for flats and small homes, but if you live in a bigger house, a mesh router may be a better option. Especially true nowadays, with so many of us working from home and children who are striving to study through distance education. If you want to maximize coverage, you can move the satellite units around the room, directing the WiFi signal around common obstacles such as doors, walls, and appliances.

There are currently a number of these Best Buy routers that are compatible with WiFi 6, the most recent wireless standard, which promises faster speeds as well as improved support for the vast number of connected devices that are found in the ordinary household. Please keep in mind that in our evaluations, WiFi 6 is referred to by its more technical term, 802. 11ax.

Here’s our pick of the Best Buy routers in our ratings, ranked by score and evaluated on a variety of criteria, including how well they perform as well as how well they safeguard your privacy and security.

Wireless Internet to a private house via a router with a SIM card

If your house does not have a fixed WiFi connection, a router with a SIM card is the ideal solution: find out how it works and how to use it.

The SIM card router is a very useful device that allows you to take full advantage of your mobile connections by converting your 3G or 4G LTE signal to a Wi-Fi network for use at home or in other places where there is no cable Internet connection. These are light and compact devices that can be used to create a portable Wi-Fi network connected to the Internet traffic of a mobile card. Let’s take a look at how a SIM router works and how to choose the SIM card that best suits your needs.

How the SIM router works

The operation of a Wi-Fi router with 4G SIM, the most common models today, is quite simple and intuitive. First, you need to power the device either from a regular outlet or from a battery. Then you must insert the SIM card and activate the device, so in many cases, the SIM router will automatically configure and prepare the connection so that you can connect smartphones, tablets, laptops and computers, other electronic devices in Wi-Fi mode.

Otherwise, you will need to configure it manually using the mobile application or web program to perform various SIM router settings. All you have to do is enter your activated mobile connection details following your carrier’s instructions to generate a Wi-Fi connection from the mobile network. It remains only to choose a password that you can use to connect various devices to the Internet and set a limit on the data traffic consumed if you want.

What is the best SIM card for Internet access

There are many SIM cards on the market, so it is important to choose the one that best suits your needs.

Before you buy a SIM card for the Internet, you need to think about how much Internet you need. You have a choice between a SIM card with limited internet access, where you are given a certain amount of GB per month, depending on your plan, or an unlimited SIM card.

Unlimited data plan

Unlimited plan allows you to make calls, send SMS and MMS, and use the Internet without any restrictions. An unlimited tethering plan is really good for consumers because it gives more freedom at a lower price.
To decide which tariff is best for you, first you need to find out how many GB of Internet you need.

If you only use the Internet to send messages and watch news, then a tariff with limited Internet is more suitable for you. If you spend most of your free time on the Internet or often download movies in good quality or like to sit on Youtube, then it will be more profitable for you to connect the MTS unlimited Internet tariff. With such a tariff, you will not need to keep track of how many GB you have left until the end of the month and pay extra once again if you have spent all the Internet in a couple of weeks.

From which mobile operators you can buy a SIM card with unlimited Internet

Tariffs with unlimited 3G and 4G Internet are currently available from such operators as MTS, Beeline, Yota, Megafon, Tele2. Unlimited SIM cards from these carriers offer full unlimited without any speed or data limits.

How fast is 4G broadband

MTS Unlimited Internet offers an average download speed of 50 Mbps, which is quite enough for streaming 1080p content and just the same as recommended for 4K UHD. You can find out your Internet speed on our website in the Internet speedtest section.

Can I get 3G or 4G broadband if I have poor signal

Yes, 3G and 4G home broadband can be a viable option even if your phone has little or no 3G or 4G signal. You will just need to install an internet amplifier with a built-in router. This device will greatly improve your internet coverage and you will be able to use 4G internet without any problems. The internet signal booster is compatible with all carriers, so you don’t have to change your tariff.

Home Internet from MTS (MGTS)

Unfortunately, I have been a user of home Internet from MGTS (widely advertised GPON) for a long time (more than six years). Now all this goes under the MTS brand.

The apartment is rented, so there was not much choice, I took what was installed in the apartment by its owner. Region – Moscow.

Didn’t experience any problems until recently as I used the internet to read news, watch a movie, check email, etc.

However, for the last half a year, I needed an increased network speed for work, and I connected the speed of 300 Mbps in my personal account.

It would seem that what could go wrong?

But needless to say, according to my feelings, the connection speed has not changed.

I decided to check the connection speed through the services. The speed did not exceed 30 Mbps, that is, 10 percent of the declared by the provider.

When contacting the TP through my personal account, they specified the type of connection (there was a Wi-Fi connection) and said that with a wireless connection, a loss of speed is possible and a cable connection is required.

Cable, so cable. I connected via cable, the speed increased, but not up to the declared 300 Mbps, but at best up to 230 Mbps. Well, not 300 of course, but not 30, as it was before.

However, another problem appeared, with enviable regularity, namely, 2-3 times a week, the speed spontaneously drops to 50 Mbps.

In response to my appeals to the TP on this issue, I was literally told the following: “Well, you understand, the router can accumulate errors, it must be rebooted in order to reset these errors. ” That is, according to MTS, I regularly, two or three times a week, have to reboot the router in order to be able to work normally.

To my question why I do not receive the connection speed declared by the provider, and also to the question of how the provider will react to the fact that instead of the amount of the tariff I pay 40 percent less and suggest that the MTS accounting department restart computers if I receive the amount is less than it should be, I did not receive a response.

Instead, I was offered some sort of remote hardware diagnostic, which, as expected, did nothing.

The speed also drops regularly, to fix the problem I have to reboot the router.

The equipment is more than six years old, this may be the problem, I am not an expert. But the fact is that the provider does not plan to do anything about it.

There was never a speed on the incoming connection of 300 Mbps. Not at all. In fact, it never happened!

But I get calls from MTS on a regular basis and tells me how cool and fast Internet they have, and how happy they will be to connect me.

Reviews on the jitterbug phone: Jitterbug Smart3 Smartphone Review in 2023

Jitterbug Smart3 Smartphone Review in 2023

For those new to the world of smartphones, the Jitterbug Smart3 is an intuitive entry point. With its simplified menus, voice commands, and optional safety features, it’s one of our favorite smartphones for seniors.

In this Jitterbug Smart3 review, we’ll take a closer look at how this phone works and how it performed in our tests.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking for a high-performing smartphone, be sure to check out my guides to the best iPhones for seniors and best smartphones for seniors.

The Jitterbug Smart3 allows you to take notes, ask questions, and set reminders with your voice.

Jitterbug Smart3 Pros and Cons

  • A Smartphone, Simplified: With its bright screen, large text, and streamlined menus, the Jitterbug Smart3 makes its advanced features accessible. Even for the most technologically averse person, I could see them using this phone with ease.
  • Safety Features: In addition to minutes and data, Lively also offers health and safety packages, turning your phone into a personal safety device. Their 5Star urgent response feature gave me 24/7 access to highly trained agents who could connect me to help in the event of an emergency.
  • Powerful Cellular Network: Although the Jitterbug Smart3 is only compatible with Verizon, this cellular provider offered everything I’d need in terms of coverage.
  • Affordable Plans: Between talk, text, data, and health packages, Lively offers a wide range of service options. Starting at just $14.99 per month with no long term contracts, they offer plans that can suit any budget.
  • Slow Navigation: While my Jitterbug Smart3 was a breeze to use, I couldn’t help but notice that loading times for apps and the web browser were a bit slower than on other smartphones.
  • Overage Charges: Despite their competitive pricing of talk, text, and data plans, Lively charges additional fees when you go over your monthly allowance. While $0.35 per minute might seem negligible, this could add up quickly if you make a lot of calls.

Our Jitterbug Smart3 Video Review

Purchasing My Jitterbug Smart3

The Jitterbug Smart3 features a simplified menu, making the smartphone easy to pick up and use.

The Jitterbug Smart3 can be purchased over the phone, online, or through physical stores such as Best Buy. I decided to buy my device directly from Lively’s website. In my experience, purchasing directly from Lively will give you the lowest prices.

Lively’s website made everything easy for me. First, I was able to take a closer look at the Jitterbug Smart3 and learn about some of its features. I appreciated the straightforward way in which Lively lists their pricing. Unlike many cellular providers, who require costly long-term contracts in order to purchase for the listed price, Lively keeps it simple and honest.

My Jitterbug Smart3 ended up costing me $149. 99 for the device in addition to a $35 activation fee. Sure, this might seem a bit pricey, but considering that modern smartphones can cost upwards of $500, not to mention data plans and hidden fees, I was pleased with this price point.

Jitterbug Smart3 Service Plans

Before I could complete my order online, I also had to figure out my service plans. Lively offers two different types of plans. Of course, there is the standard type of plan that includes some level of talk, text, and data, but there is also the option to sign up for a health and safety package. This latter type of plan provides you with features that can turn your Jitterbug Smart3 into a personal emergency response system, but more on that later. First, let’s dig into the basics.

Currently, Lively offers two different plans for the Smart3: Value Talk and Text and Unlimited Talk and Text. The former costs $14.99 per month, and the latter costs $19.99 per month. Additionally, since the Smart3 is a smartphone, you’ll likely want to add data to your plan which costs an additional monthly amount depending on the amount of data you’d like. For example, 500MB per month will cost an additional $5 per month while unlimited data will cost an extra $30 per month.

Jitterbug Smart3 Plans and Costs

Plan Monthly Cost Allowance
Value Talk and Text $14.99 per month
  • 300 minutes
  • 10 cents per text message
Unlimited Talk and Text $19.99 per month
  • Unlimited minutes
  • Unlimited messages
Unlimited Talk and Text with 500MB of Data $24.99 per month
  • Unlimited minutes
  • Unlimited messages
  • 500MB of data
Unlimited Talk, Text, and Data $49.99 per month
  • Unlimited minutes
  • Unlimited messages
  • Unlimited data

To make the most of my Jitterbug Smart3, I decided to sign up for the unlimited talk, text, and data plan. Another thing that factored into my decision was that Lively charges additional fees in the event of an overage ($0.35 per minute, $0.10 per text, and $0.10 per megabyte). While small, these fees could quickly add up to your bill. If overages are something that concerns you, then I’d recommend checking out Consumer Cellular, who automatically upgrades your plan in the event of an overage.

Any Lively plan includes calling to both the continental U.S. and Canada. Calls made to Mexico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico will cost $0.20 per minute. Calls made to all other international destinations will cost $1 per minute.

With my cellular plan figured out, there was just one more step, and that was choosing a health and safety package.

Savings Tip: When you sign up for a Lively health and safety package, you’ll automatically receive discounts on your plans for talk, text, and data.

Lively Health and Safety Packages

You’re probably wondering: What exactly is a health and safety package? In short, they’re a range of services designed for older adults that provide convenience, safety, and general wellbeing for the user. Essentially, they helped turn my Jitterbug Smart3 into my own personal emergency response system. Now, let’s get into the specifics.

  • 5Star Urgent Response: In the event of any emergency, medical or otherwise, the 5Star Urgent response feature can come in handy. By pressing the dedicated button on the bottom of my Jitterbug Smart3’s screen, I was immediately connected to one of Lively’s IAED-certified agents who could trace my location and send help if necessary. Luckily, during my time with the Jitterbug Smart3, I had no medical emergencies; however, when I lost my way on a walk through the city, I contacted an agent for assistance, and, using my location, she helped me find the nearest bus stop.

The Jitterbug Smart3 has a dedicated Urgent Response button on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

  • Urgent Care: One of my favorite wellness features, Urgent Care, allowed me to speak directly with registered nurses and doctors, who were able to provide me with medical advice and even prescribe common medications over the phone. Did I mention this service is also available 24/7?
  • Lively Link: The free Lively Link app is a great way for caregivers to keep tabs on their loved one. Using this app on his smartphone, my husband received notifications each time I pressed my 5Star button. He could also check on my location and the battery level of my Jitterbug Smart3.
  • Brain Games: Studies have demonstrated that puzzle-based games can help maintain cognitive function, even in advanced age. Because of this, I loved the addition of Lively’s brain games. One of my favorites, called Right Turn involves rotating a series of images in order to create matching pairs. It’s almost like the gym for your brain!
  • Personal Operator: Much like the telephone operators of yore, my Lively personal operator-assisted me with looking up numbers and addresses.

These features come in three different packages. Here is an overview of the plans and their costs.

Lively Health and Safety Packages

Basic Preferred Ultimate
5Star Urgent Response Yes Yes Yes
Brain Games Yes Yes Yes
Urgent Care No Yes Yes
Lively Link No Yes Yes
Personal Operator No No Yes
Monthly Cost $19.99 $24.99 $34.99

Jitterbug Smart3 Accessories

In addition to the plethora of services offered through Lively, there are also some additional bits of hardware you can purchase for your Jitterbug Smart3. Here’s a closer look at each of them.

  • Glass Screen Protector: More durable than a plastic protector, this tempered glass covering will prevent cracks and scratches on your Jitterbug Smart3’s screen. It’s also thin enough to preserve its touch-based operation.
  • Wallet Folio Case: This bi-fold case not only protects your phone, but it also allows you to store your valuables such as credit cards and cash.

The Jitterbug Smart3 In Action

After purchasing my Jitterbug Smart3 and signing up for a plan, all I had to do was wait for my package to arrive. In the box, I found my Jitterbug Smart3 device, a wall charger, a car charger, and a user manual, which guided me through the setup process. First, I plugged my new phone into the wall charger, plugged that into an outlet, and then waited about an hour for it to fully charge. Once I powered the phone up, all I had to do was dial the service number listed in the guide, confirm my information, and then I was ready for some tests.

Unlike an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, which feature complex graphics, widgets, and display features, the Jitterbug Smart3’s home screen looks more like a list. Therein, I found dedicated buttons for the most essential functions: phone, voicemail, text messages, camera, internet, and maps. Sure, the design may not have been the most cutting edge, but I could definitely see the appeal of this simple layout. The on-screen text was also large, which is great for the many people with vision impairment.

Also easy to use was the text message feature. With the Jitterbug Smart3’s five and a half-inch screen, I had no trouble accurately typing, and the same goes for dialing numbers. In my many test phone calls, I noticed no issues. Both the call quality and volume were superb, and all of my calls, both in and outside my home, went through without a hitch. Similar to the Jitterbug Flip2, the Jitterbug Smart3 also features voice dialing, so I was able to call various contacts using only my voice.

The one drawback I noticed with the Jitterbug Smart3 was that browsing the web often came with considerable wait times. For example, even when connected to my home’s Wi-Fi network, it would still take about 5-7 seconds for my phone to load The Senior List. Now, in the grand scheme of things, this isn’t really that long of a wait; however, it is certainly longer than the load times from other smartphones.

Bottom Line

When all is said and done, a Jitterbug Smart3 can’t replace a full-fledged medical alert system, many of which are waterproof, can be worn around the neck, and feature automatic fall detection. With falls being the main source of fatal injury to older adults, I think of fall detection as an essential feature of any bonafide medical alert system.

Still, what the Jitterbug Smart3 offers is a bridge between older adults and the modern smartphone. With its intuitive controls and added safety features, chances are this smartphone be great for any of your loved ones.

  • How much storage is available on the Jitterbug Smart3?

The Jitterbug Smart3 has 32GB of internal memory, which is enough to store about 3,200 songs, 6,000 photos, or several hours of video. Granted, these numbers will vary based on the quality of your files. Additionally, you can add up to 256BG of external storage through a micro SD card.

In our tests, the Jitterbug Smart3 lasted for 15 hours of talk time and nearly a week on standby.

Jitterbug Smartphone & Flip Phone Reviews (June 2023)

Since 2005, Lively (formerly GreatCall) has bridged the gap between cell phones and older adults. Each of their devices, from the simple Jitterbug Flip2 to the advanced Jitterbug Smart3, comes packed with advanced features that are easy to use.

For those of us who are a bit intimidated by modern smartphones, Lively might be a great place to look for cellular service. In this Jitterbug phone review, we’ll take a closer look at each Jitterbug device, exploring its features, its performance, and how it functions on Lively’s network.

Pro Tip: To learn about my favorite cellular providers, check out my guide to senior cell phone plans.

Lively Jitterbug Pros and Cons

  • Features for Older Adults: From their menus with a simplified navigation to the 5Star urgent response buttons, Lively devices are designed specifically for older adults. Even I appreciated how easy they were to use.
  • Affordable Plans: Lively plans start at $19.99 per month for unlimited talk and text, making them one of the most affordable cellular providers. Their phones are also competitively priced, costing under $200.
  • Powerful Network: Lively uses Verizon’s wireless network, which is frequently ranked as one of the best mobile providers both in terms of speed and coverage. Just about anywhere I took my phones, I received flawless service and speedy access to data.
  • No Family Plans: Currently, Lively does not offer any sort of shared plans for their cell service, meaning each of my phones needed its own separate plan. Many providers, like T-Mobile senior plans, offer discounted rates for family plans, so this was a bit of a disappointment.
  • Limited Phone Choices: Although I had few complaints when it came to my Jitterbug Smart3 and Jitterbug Flip2, these two phones are the only ones offered through Lively. Those hoping to find Apple, Samsung, or Motorola devices will have to look elsewhere.
  • Overage Charges: Unlike some cellular providers like Consumer Cellular, who automatically upgrade your service plan in the event of an overage, Lively charges an additional fee for each additional gigabyte of data used. These fees, while small, can quickly add up. If you want to learn more, read my full comparison of Lively vs. Consumer Cellular.

Our Methodology

To test out our Jitterbug phones, our team purchased both the Jitterbug Flip2 and Jitterbug Smart3. Over the course of a month, our Managing Editor Ryan Molloy used both of the phones on Lively’s network, allowing us to test not only how the device worked but also how it performed with Lively’s cellular service.

How I Purchased My Lively Phones

Lively phones can be purchased over the phone, through Lively’s website, or at brick-and-mortar stores such as Best Buy or Rite Aid. I decided to try my hand at their website. Once I pulled it up on my computer, I could easily view each of Lively’s cell phone offerings, the Jitterbug Smart3 and the Jitterbug Flip2. On the website, I was also able to compare both of these devices side by side in order to assess which one had the features I was looking for.

With its built-in Google Assistant, the Jitterbug Smart3 can browse the web to answer simple questions.

Beneath each phone was a clearly listed price. Having dealt with many tricky cellular providers, I’m always on the lookout for an asterisk or fine print, anything that indicates a catch; however, there was none to be found with each Lively device. Sure, the listed prices required that I activated a new line of service, but I was already planning on doing this, so the representation of costs felt accurate. The listing even noted that each phone would come with both a wall and car charger at no extra cost, which I thought was a neat little bonus. We’ve all left Verizon with our pockets much lighter than we thought they’d be, so I appreciated Lively’s transparency when it came to pricing.

For testing purposes, I decided to purchase both the Jitterbug Flip2 for $99.99 and the Jitterbug Smart3 for $149.99, but before I could have them shipped to my door, I had to figure out my service plans.

FYI: For its Lively phones, Lively does not currently offer shared or family plans, meaning each cell phone requires its own individual plan.

Lively Health and Safety Packages

The Jitterbug Flip2 features a dedicated Urgent Response button

In addition to talk and text, Lively offers what they call Health and Safety Packages, which turned my Lively phone into a personal safety device. Here is a rundown of the features available with these packages.

  • 5Star Urgent Response: Each of my Lively devices featured a dedicated 5Star button. When pressed, it immediately connected me to one of Lively’s response agents. Luckily, I had no actual emergency during my testing, but if I were in need of medical assistance, my agent could have contacted emergency services.
  • Brain Games: Studies have shown that puzzle-based activities, also known as brain games, can help refine thinking skills that tend to decline with age, skills such as decision making and short-term memory. Each Lively features several different types of these games. My personal favorite was called Face Facts, a game in which I had to memorize names and associate them with images of faces.
  • Urgent Care: With this feature, I was able to speak to an actual nurse or doctor through my Lively, without having to make an appointment! I was even able to obtain prescriptions for certain medications through this feature, which definitely saved me some time sitting at the pharmacy.
  • Lively Link: As a caregiver, I really appreciated the Lively Link app. Family members and caregivers can download this app for free and receive notifications whenever the Lively uses the 5Star button or is running low on battery. To test it out, I had my husband download the app, and he was even able to track my location through my Lively. This would come in handy for caregivers as it would allow you to make sure their loved one is home and safe.
  • Nurse On-Call: For the older adult living independently, this feature would certainly come in handy. I was able to call my nurse on-call to connect with a medical professional to answer any health-related questions.
  • Care Advocate: Care advocates on-call can help users plan out any needs related to personal care, finances, and health.

With all that said, I feel the need to clarify that Lively’s Health and Safety Packages are not quite an adequate substitute for a medical alert device, many of which are waterproof, can be worn around the neck, and feature automatic fall detection. With falls being the main source of fatal injury to older adults, I think of fall detection as an essential feature of any bonafide medical alert system. If you’re looking for a full-fledged system such as this, check out my rundown of the best medical alert systems with fall detection.

For an overview of Lively’s Health and Safety Packages and their costs, check out the chart below.

Lively Minutes, Messages and Data

Since I signed up for the Ultimate plan, I received an additional discount when it came to my talk, text, and data. The Unlimited Talk, Text and Data plan, which normally costs $59.99 per month, only ended up costing me $40 per month, and my Unlimited Talk and Text Plan only cost me $20 per month. For my Jitterbug Flip2, the total cost for service came to $55 per month, and for my Jitterbug Smart3, it totaled out to $74.99. Now, this was a bit more pricey than an unlimited plan from Consumer Cellular, which only costs $60 per month for one line; however, the advanced features of the Health and Safety package definitely make it worth the money.

While calls made to Canada do not come at an extra charge, calls made to Puerto Rico, Mexico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands will cost $0.20 per minute.

The More You Know: Although the pricing of plans is the same for both the Jitterbug Flip2 and Jitterbug Smart3, only the latter can utilize data.

For a full list of Lively talk, text, and data plans, check out the chart below for our rundown of Jitterbug phone plans. For the Jitterbug Smart3, data can be added based on the amount. 1GB of data costs $5 per month, and unlimited data costs an extra $30 per month.

Unlimited Talk and Text $19.99 per month

Choosing a Lively Phone

When it came time to choose a phone, my choices were limited. While other providers offer a litany of cell phone choices, Lively offered two, the Jitterbug Flip2 and the Jitterbug Smart3. The upside of this? I didn’t spend hours poring over which device I wanted to test. Based on its classic clamshell design, the Jitterbug Flip2 struck me as the no-frills phone, ideal for the person simply looking to talk and send the occasional text. The Jitterbug Smart3, based on its large touch screen, not to mention the name, struck me as a contemporary smartphone. So what did I do? I ordered both.

Setting Up My Devices

Once I purchased my devices and plans, all I had to do was wait a week for them to arrive on my doorstep, with free shipping, no less. In each box, I found a phone, a wall charger, a car charger, and instructions which helped me through the simple setup process. First I plugged each of my phones into their chargers, plugged those into an outlet, and waited a couple of hours for their batteries to power up.

Once they were fully charged, I dialed the service number listed on the manual, confirmed my information, and voila! Both of my phones were ready for liftoff.

Keep Your Number!: Before you activate your Lively phone, be sure to contact Lively’s customer service line, as they might be able to transfer an existing cellular or landline number to your new device.

How It All Worked

Between my Jitterbug Flip2 and Jitterbug Smart3, I knew that I was testing two phones with highly different feature sets, the cell phone equivalent of apples and oranges. But after extensive use of each, I came to see that each phone catered to a different type of person or, pardon the expression, different taste.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the features.

Jitterbug Flip2 ($99.99 One-Time Payment)

Call me old fashioned, but I think there’s undeniable beauty in simplicity, and that’s exactly what the Jitterbug Flip2 offered. Unlike the modern phones peddled by major cellular carriers, the phones that can fill in for a desktop computer, the Jitterbug Flip2 has a comparably limited feature set. But for some people, particularly those who are wary of cutting edge technology, this could be a plus.

Jitterbug Flip2

Everything the Jitterbug Flip2 can do, it does with aplomb. In my many test calls, I was pleased with both the volume and the clarity of the audio. When I used the speakerphone, I was very impressed with how loud the call could become, definitely something that could come in handy for those who are hard of hearing. With about one-third of people over 65 suffering from hearing loss, a powerful speaker is a great feature to have. The Jitterbug Flip2 is also compatible with hearing aids.

The Jitterbug Flip2’s screen, though small when compared to that of a smartphone, is very bright, and both numbers and messages could be easily read, as they were displayed in a large 32 point font. Typing on the phone was also a breeze. Each of the buttons was large and backlit, ensuring that I made no mistakes with either messaging or dialing numbers.

My favorite feature of the Jitterbug Flip2, however, had to be the dedicated 5Star button on the side of the phone. Although I encountered no emergencies during my testing period, I could see this coming in handy for any older adult. Without the hassle of dialing a number or navigating menus, I could press the button and immediately be connected with someone who could send help, if necessary.

Jitterbug Smart3 ($149.99 One-Time Payment)

When I first powered up my Jitterbug Smart3, I thought it looked strikingly similar to any other modern smart phone with its large screen and minimal physical buttons; however, as I navigated its menus, I came to see how straightforward everything was laid out. Each of its functions (phone, camera, internet, messages, etc.) was neatly displayed on the home screen. Despite how intimidating smart phones might seem to some people, it’s hard for me to imagine someone being unable to work with the Jitterbug Smart3.

The Jitterbug Smart3 allows you to take notes, ask questions, and set reminders with your voice.

Texting was a breeze on its five and a half inch backlit screen, and dialing numbers was no different. In each of my test calls, I did notice that the Jitterbug Smart3’s speaker was a smidge quieter than that of the Jitterbug Flip2; however, when switched to speakerphone, it possessed the same powerful audio output. In terms of call quality, I found no issues. Voices came in crystal clear through the Jitterbug Smart3, and none of my calls were dropped.

Similar to the Jitterbug Flip2, the Jitterbug Smart3 also features a dedicated 5Star button; however, unlike the Jitterbug Flip2, this button is a part of the touch screen. Although I usually appreciate physical buttons for important functions such as this, I had no issues finding and pressing this button, as it remains constantly in the lower portion of the screen, directly beside the Home and Back buttons.

Closing Thoughts

While simple in terms of controls, both Jitterbug phones can make calls, keep track of loved ones, and even function with hearing aids! Sure, with both the Jitterbug Flip2 and Jitterbug Smart3, neither of them is a perfect substitute for a medical alert system and shouldn’t be thought of as such; however, for the older adult looking for a simple and affordable way to keep in touch with friends and family, it’s hard to think of a better option than Lively.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lively

  • Can I keep my same cell phone number when switching to Lively?

Lively can usually allow you to retain your current cell phone or home phone number. Be sure to contact their customer support line to confirm that your current number is eligible for transfer. Additionally, wait until your account has been transferred before canceling your current service. Otherwise, you might lose access to your number.

  • What happens if I use up all of my minutes or data?

As of 2023, all of Lively’s plans offer unlimited talk and text, so you only have to worry about overage charges for data, which cost $0.10 per megabyte.

  • Do Lively phones come with any kind of warranty or return policy?

All phones offered through Lively come with a 30-day return policy. The only caveat with this is that you must have used fewer than 30 minutes of talk time in order to receive a full refund. • Do Lively phones have features for those who suffer from visual impairment?

When you press the 5Star button, you are immediately connected to an agent who will assess the situation and dispatch appropriate assistance if needed. For example, in the event of your car breaking down, a 5Star agent could help you obtain roadside assistance.

  • Are there Jitterbug phone plans with just talk minutes?

Lively used to offer plans with finite amounts of minutes and messages; however, as of 2023, all of Lively’s plans offer unlimited talk and text. Data will cost extra.

The hardware in this case would be familiar to anyone who knows the Alcatel A30 Plus mobile phone, as the Jitterbug Smart2 is that phone.

There may be some minor internal differences such as the Smart2 is locked to Verizon, but anyone who owns Alcatel will recognize this device. GreatCall has done with this device, focusing on changing the interface and how it can be used to access the services they sell with the device..

Critical, a button to access 5Star is available on every screen. That way, no matter what the phone does, if something goes wrong, help is at hand.

It’s a good idea because if you’re facing any type of emergency, the last thing you can do is navigate the interface to get exactly the icon you want.

But the interface changes on the Jitterbug Smart2 go further , reducing phone functions to those actions that most owners really need. These include calling, texting, taking pictures, using the internet, accessing email, maps, and connecting to a live response carried by GreatCall..

If you wear Lively, the phone may be on your face and you can still activate 5Star and contact an agent without even touching your phone.

Another great feature on the menu is ‘Brain Games’, a collection of brain games designed to help seniors stay sharp and focused while performing cognitive functions.

If this product has flaws, then it assumes that the elder’s already have a good quality mobile phone that they use every day. And, over the years, the number of older people who don’t we believe the level of technological proficiency will plummet.

For this solution to be of value, the phone must be carried by the person it serves, and he must remember to charge it regularly. like Parkinson’s.

Good job GreatCall has done changing Alcatel to be suitable for the elderly, they may not address these medical issues if they exist.

Before investing in a phone and a service, it would be wise to assess whether the person they are called to support can benefit from it.

5Star service

We’ve already mentioned how the phone provides direct access to the 5Star service, but that’s only part of the story. which allows the wearer to speak to a nurse or doctor at any time of the day,

and even get a prescription for regular medicines.

GreatCall Link includes everything except Basic 5Star service, a means to inform caregivers of the phone’s owner..

The link can install an application on the caregiver’s phone or a web portal that any computer can access with the correct reporting credentials. It’s designed not to be intrusive, but to alert those who need to know if help is needed.

5Star starts at $19.99 per month for the basic package. Also, it’s a Preferred service that adds Urgent Care and GreatCall Link for $24.99 per month, and if you want to replace your phone and personal carrier, the Ultimate Health & Safety package costs $24.9$9 per month..

In addition to this cost of services, you also need a Verizon data plan, which varies from $7.49 per month depending on the minutes of the call, included texts and data package..

The MediaTek MT6738 chip in this device may be quad-core, but it isn’t a powerhouse.

Where this platform’s limited performance is most noticeable in areas that use the most resources, such as photography. But it can be sluggish in other cases, as the amount of storage available for apps isn’t huge, forcing you to work with flash if you have a lot of apps open.

The mobile side of this unit is acceptable as it was built to use GSM (850/900/1800/1900), CDMA (0/1), UMTS (1/2/4/5) and a decent amount of 4G. LTE bands (2/4/5/7/12/13/17). Since Verizon uses LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 13, and 66, it should work with one of those if LTE is available in your area. Smart2 because it turns the complexity of an Android smartphone into a simple package that even the most unfavorable tech owner should use..

The phone is priced at competitive prices and emergency support contracts aren’t too expensive. Considering the potential costs associated with getting help quickly, paying for a service like 5Star can be a very smart investment.

Service and interface customization are strengths of the Jitterbug Smart2 offering, but it’s not without a few weaknesses too.

At the top of this list are the technical specifications of the base phone, which, if bought from an online store, would cost less than $100..

Another consideration is Verizon’s cellular network and how this requirement applies to the customer.

While Verizon is considered one of the largest networks with the most extensive service, it can’t guarantee any service in a particular geographic location.

Unless you’ve checked cell service in places where the phone is likely to be deployed and where the signal is strong and then fixed on that device and the associated network wouldn’t be a smart choice .

Since the system is exclusive to Verizon, it doesn’t, unfortunately you can get by with another mobile carrier.

For most phones, the sales step is directed at the user. But here the real market is those who have distant family members and want to make sure something happens so they’ll be able to get help quickly. And keep posted if something happens.

With this device, they know that help is at hand, even if they’re farther away, and that peace of mind can easily be worth the modest cost of a phone and associated plan.

If you thought that flip phones stopped being a thing before The Matrix sequel, then we have to point out that they’re still popular in parts of Asia.

But they are also a good idea for older people. Since they’re small and compact, they’re rugged and aren’t ambiguous about where you need to speak and listen.

These are no doubt some of the good reasons why Greatcall chose the flip phone for the Jitterbug Flip solution. The phone to call is so important that it can be a matter of life or death for the person making it. For a list of all retail stores, visit: http://www.greatcall.com/StoreLocator

Like the Jitterbug Smart2, also from Greatcall, the Jitterbug Flip is a redesigned phone with some minor aesthetic changes and a bigger interface change. for those who got one from Sprint or T-Mobile.

Available in red or graphite, it has two displays, one inside the bed and a smaller one outside.

The large one is 3.2 inches and has a resolution of only 320 x 480 pixels, while the smaller external screen is only 1.44 inches.

As these screen sizes and resolutions show, these displays cannot read documents or maps, they’re for large and easy-to-read options, such as entering a phone number or reading the time.

The tiny external display may seem like overkill, but it allows you to flip the Flip over like a bedside clock when it’s on its charger, and it doesn’t negatively impact battery life.

To make or receive a call, simply open the phone and you’re ready to speak or dial a number. It’s very basic and somewhat reminiscent of a phone from the ‘feature phone’ era rather than a modern smartphone.

It has extra large buttons for the numeric keypad and above them an up/down selector and easy to follow ‘Yes No’ option.

However, it’s Android on the inside and has all sorts of features you could expect from a phone that first appeared in 2016.

There’s a basic 2-megapixel camera with flash, Bluetooth 3.0, a headphone jack, a Micro USB port for charging and file transfer, and 1GB of RAM. There’s also a Micro SD card slot inside to add more storage, but that’s not mentioned in the manual at all.

The battery capacity is only 1780 mAh, but with a very modest processor and small screens, which is more than enough to keep the Flip powered for up to five days before it needs to be recharged..

What separates this product from cheap Chinese phone technology is the extremely simplified user interface Greatcall designed for it, and how to use it to access their support services in the event of a problem.

Instead normal android icon pages, the user is presented with a scrolling menu to select one of the functions, ideal for people with dexterity limitations..

However, what they didn’t do’ This design has a 5Star button on the screen, which is located directly below the number pad and is colored red for easy identification. may contact friends and family for minor issues or emergency services for more serious scenarios.

The phone’s inherent GPS technology can transmit its geographic location, so they should be able to locate you quickly when they receive assistance.

What this phone, in its modified form, doesn’t offer Internet services or email that can discourage older people who are tech-savvy to use. What’s interesting about Jitterbug Flip is how many basic features have been tweaked slightly to help those who may have vision problems or lack fine control in their hands..

As we mentioned, this phone has a rear-facing camera and a flash.

Camera’s extra feature is that the menu offers a magnifying glass mode, allowing you to use the phone to read small text or scan a small dropped object. And the flash can be used as a flashlight to see in the dark for short periods of time.

This phone also has one of the loudest speakers we’ve ever heard on a phone and it supports hearing aids with the highest M4/T4 rating.

But what the phone can do is the extra service that Greatcall provides through it, and they have plans that start at just $19.99 per month.

However, the best value option we’ve ever had is a premium service that includes Urgent Assistance and GreatCall Link for $24.99 per month. Urgent Care lets you talk to a nurse or doctor 24/7 and even get a prescription for your regular medications over the phone, while GreatCall Link lets you inform assigned friends, family, and caregivers immediately if you access 5Star.

When you sign up for a phone and service, you can even transfer your existing number to the phone to minimize any disruptions.

And if you choose not to continue service, the Jitterbug Flip will still work as a phone with a suitable mobile SIM card. expected, but it also has some of the same technology performance limitations.

While inverted jitterbug’If an 8-core processor or iPhone 11 internals is required, it can be greatly improved with better hardware than the current platform offers.

Plans begin as low as $24.88 for 5GB of high-speed data and range through $49.88 for unlimited (40GB high-speed data). All of the plans include unlimited talk, text and data at 2G speeds.

I checked out the details of Walmart Family Mobile’s plans, coverage and more. I’ve also compared the service to different available phone plans and service providers to help you determine whether or not you should make the switch.

Below, you’ll find more information about Walmart Family Mobile including what plans are available, how reliable the service is and whether or not you should consider it as your mobile carrier.

1. Plans and Pricing

Walmart Family Mobile offers four different prepaid phone plans ranging from $25 to $50 per month for one line.

In the table below, you’ll see each of Walmart Family Mobile’s cell phone plans as well as the price, monthly data caps, mobile hotspot capabilities and more.

Plan Price Data Mobile Hotspot Multiline
5GB $24.88 5GB high-speed, then unlimited 2G speeds Pulls from monthly data usage $24.88 for each additional line*
8GB $29.88 8GB high-speed, then unlimited 2G speeds Pulls from monthly data usage $24.88 for each additional line*
40GB $39.88 40GB high-speed, then unlimited 2G speeds 10GB $24.88 for each additional line*
Truly Unlimited $49.88 40GB high-speed, then unlimited 2G speeds 30GB $24.88 for each additional line*

*Online offer valid for new activations only

All of the Walmart Family Mobile plans come with unlimited talk, text and 2G data. Additionally, single-line accounts are eligible for an autopay discount of up to $2. 50 per month.

When it comes to multiline accounts, you can add additional lines of equal or lesser value for only $24.88 each per month on any plan. You can check out the details of Walmart’s multiline discount here.

Each account is able to dial up to 20 unique international phone numbers each month. However, only the 40GB and Truly Unlimited plans include unlimited calling to Canada and Mexico. For more international calling or international roaming, you’ll need a $10 Global Calling Card.

According to Walmart’s website, customers may experience reduced data speeds in times of congestion as compared to Verizon postpaid customers. Additionally, speeds may be further reduced for customers who use more than 40GB.

However, compared to Verizon Wireless’ postpaid plans, you’ll still be saving on your phone bill with Walmart Family Mobile. Verizon’s unlimited postpaid plans begin at $70 per line for one line.

2. Network Coverage

Walmart Family Mobile provides access to Verizon Wireless’ 5G and 4G/LTE networks. If Verizon offers coverage in your area, you’ll likely have reliable access to service with Walmart Family Mobile.

Below, you can see the Walmart Family Mobile coverage map:

Screenshot from Walmart Family Mobile

To see if you’ll have coverage with Walmart Family Mobile, visit the company’s website and enter your ZIP code on the coverage map. Additionally, you can check Verizon’s coverage map for a more comprehensive overview of coverage in your area since they run on the same towers.

3. Activation Process

If you decide to make the switch to Walmart Family Mobile, you’ll need a compatible phone and a SIM card or eSIM-compatible phone.

To make sure your phone is compatible, it needs to be unlocked. If It is, you can choose to keep your phone when you activate your service. You can check your phone’s compatibility online. Additionally, you may choose to shop for a new phone through Walmart Family Mobile or buy an unlocked phone online.

Either way, you can get started by choosing the plan you’d like the purchase on Walmart’s website:

Screenshot from Walmart Family Mobile

When you select the plan you’re interested in, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to purchase a new phone or keep your own. You’ll also be able to choose whether you already have a SIM card or if you need to buy a new one.

You can typically purchase a SIM card online or in-store; however, when I tried to go through this process myself in December 2022, I ran into some trouble with broken links on Walmart Family Mobile’s website. For this reason, I recommend visiting a Walmart store in person to purchase a SIM card.

According to Walmart’s website, there are two ways to activate an account once you have a SIM card and a compatible phone:

  • Online at myfamilymobile. com
  • Call 1-877-440-9758

You can check out the company’s website to learn more about signing up for Walmart Family Mobile. You can also check out the FAQ section for more information on bringing your own phone, transferring your number and more.

4. Phone Selection

If you’re thinking about switching to Walmart Family Mobile, you may be able to bring your own phone. This is one of the best ways to save money when switching to any new cell phone service provider. If you have an unlocked device, you can check its compatibility online.

If you are looking to buy a new phone, know that Walmart Family Mobile offers a wide selection. In December 2022, Walmart Family Mobile offered 41 different phones available online

Prices begin at $24.88 for a basic flip phone and $29.88 for a smartphone. However, prices range up through $1,399 for the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. Here are a few other popular phones available at Walmart Family Mobile (prices are accurate as of December 19, 2022):

  • Samsung Galaxy A03s ($49. 88)
  • Samsung Galaxy A13 5G ($99.88)
  • Apple iPhone SE 2020 ($149)
  • Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G 2021 ($199)
  • Apple iPhone 11 ($299)
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 5G ($649.97)
  • Apple iPhone 13 Pro ($899)

You can check out the currently available selection of phones online at Walmart Family Mobile’s website.

Before you purchase a phone from Walmart Family Mobile, be sure to compare prices. Check out this article on the best places to buy unlocked phones to find the best deals. You may also be interested in one of our top picks for the best budget Android phones.

5. Data Speeds

Data is one of the biggest concerns that people have when switching to a prepaid carrier. If you’re currently paying for an unlimited data plan from one of the major three cell phone service providers, you may be wondering if Walmart Family Mobile will be able to meet your data needs.

Walmart Family Mobile does not offer unlimited high-speed data with any phone plan. Instead, its unlimited plans include a set amount of high-speed data before deprioritization kicks in. At that point, speeds will be throttled to 128Kbps.

The $24.88 plan comes with 5GB of high-speed data while the $29.88 plan comes with 8GB. Both the $39.88 and $49.88 plans come with 40GB of high-speed data. Also, each of these two plans includes an additional allotment of high-speed mobile hotspot data (10GB and 30GB, respectively). Once you’ve reached your high-speed data allotment, speeds will be reduced, but you’ll still have unlimited data at 2G speeds.

Of course, actual data speeds vary based on a number of factors including your location and coverage in your area, the device you’re using, network traffic and more.

Visit the company’s website to learn more about Walmart Family Mobile’s plans and data.

6. Customer Service

There are two ways that you can contact a live representative at Walmart Family Mobile: over the phone or via online chat.

You can contact Walmart Family Mobile’s customer support over the phone at 1-877-440-9758.

If you’d rather chat with a representative online, you can visit Walmart Family Mobile’s website and click the red “Chat Now” button.

Customer service representatives are available every day from 8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. ET.

For more information on how to contact Walmart Family Mobile, visit the company’s website online.

Final Thoughts

If you are thinking about switching to Walmart Family Mobile, I recommend checking out the coverage in your area first. You can do this by visiting the website and entering your ZIP code on the coverage map. You can also visit Verizon’s website and follow the same steps to get a more comprehensive overview of the service in your area.

Walmart Family Mobile now runs on Verizon Wireless’ network, so if Verizon has strong service in your area, then Walmart Family Mobile could be a great way to get access to the same reliable signal without having to pay for a Verizon postpaid plan.

I also recommend bringing your own phone to Walmart Family Mobile if you have an eligible, unlocked device. This is a great way to save additional money when you switch cell phone service providers.

You’ll find decent prices at Walmart Family Mobile, however, other prepaid phone plans offer better deals. For example, Walmart Family Mobile’s cheapest plan is $25 for 5GB of high-speed data. Mint Mobile offers 15GB for the same price or unlimited (30GB of high-speed data) for $30 per month. Tello Mobile offers 10GB of high-speed data for $24 per month, and Visible offers a basic unlimited plan for $30. Additionally, Boost Infinite just unveiled an unlimited postpaid plan for $25 with includes 30GB of high-speed data.

If you do decide to make the switch, be sure to check out this guide that we put together to take you step-by-step through the process. If you’re still looking for the best fit, you can find more options in our guide on the best cell phone plans and deals available now.

Toward the end of March, T-Mobile overhauled its set of prepaid mobile plans. If you’d rather not subscribe to its One unlimited plan, the carrier now has three month-to-month options:

  • A $45 a month plan that gives you unlimited talk, text, and up to 4 GB of LTE data.
  • A $55 a month plan that bumps that up to 6 GB of LTE data.
  • A “T-Mobile One Prepaid” plan that costs $75 a month for “unlimited” LTE data, but caps video streamed over the network at 480p unless you pay $3 for a day’s worth of HD streaming. It provides “unlimited” mobile hotspot usage, too, but only at 3G speeds. As with the postpaid One plan, T-Mobile says you may also notice “reduced speeds” in areas of congestion if you use more than 30 GB of data in a given month.
  • In each case, you need to call T-Mobile directly to order the plan.

One Prepaid looks like a worse deal than the standard One plan, which allows LTE video streaming and some LTE hotspot data by default, and costs $5 less a month — but the other two seem like fine-enough value on the surface.

In the process of reworking its offerings, though, T-Mobile formally ditched a plan that is widely seen as one of the best deals in mobile.

That plan offers 5 GB of 4G data, unlimited text, and 100 minutes of talk time for $30 a month. While the 100-minute limit is strict, 5 GB of data is a healthy amount, and it’s still possible to use WiFi-based services like FaceTime or Skype as a calling replacement.

Mike Blake/Reuters

More importantly, the $30 prepaid plan has long been the cheapest way to get onto a major carrier’s 4G network with a non-anemic allotment of data. It doesn’t hurt that T-Mobile’s network has improved by leaps and bounds in recent years.

All of this, combined with the fact that T-Mobile had always kept it somewhat hidden, led to the plan attracting a sort of cult following over the past half-decade. Various articles have been written explaining how to activate it, and review sites like The Wirecutter have recommended it as great value.

For what it’s worth, I’ve used the plan for the past three years: The 100-minute restriction is a bit tricky for my line of work, but the hundreds of dollars I’ve saved each year are worth it.

As of late March, though, T-Mobile is no longer selling the plan to new subscribers, and details of it appear to have been scrubbed from T-Mobile’s website.

T-Mobile’s PR team did not respond to requests for comment. A call to the carrier’s customer service line, however, did confirm its removal. According to the T-Mobile rep, those who have the $30 plan today are now “grandfathered” in, but for new customers the $45 a month offering — which gives unlimited talk, but 1 GB less of 4G data — is now the cheapest option.

T-Mobile US CEO John Legere speaks at an Un-carrier event in 2015.

Eduardo Munoz/Reuters

That said! Over the years, T-Mobile has used the $30 prepaid plan as a sort of promotional tie-in with Walmart, making it available on the latter’s website and retail stores. According to reps from both T-Mobile and Walmart, that partnership is still in place, so those who purchase a T-Mobile SIM card or device from Walmart can still call up the carrier’s customer service line and request the $30 plan.

So, it’s still possible to take advantage of the deal, but you have to jump through a few more hoops without T-Mobile advertising it anywhere on its site. Even then, your mileage may vary, since there’s no written guarantee that you’ll be able to activate the plan, and it’s unclear how long the Walmart tie-in will remain active.

Nevertheless, the hassle might be worth it. The best freely available value now likely comes from AT&T, whose cheapest prepaid plan gives 6 GB of 4G data, unlimited talk, and unlimited text, but costs $40 a month. Verizon’s prepaid plans start at $40 a month for only 2 GB of 4G data, meanwhile, and Sprint’s start with 3 GB of data for the same amount.

Either way, it’s clearer than ever that T-Mobile would really like you to buy something else.

The $45 Unlimited 30-Day Straight Talk plan outperforms the competition in unlimited conversations, text, and data. Straight Talk provides nationwide coverage of the largest and most reliable 4G LTE networks in the country, so even when you have to leave the comfort of your wireless networks, you’ll have coverage you can count on. Plus, it’s easy to get started; Simply place your order on Walmart.com and you will receive an email with access to your PIN within 60 minutes. However, please note that while you get unlimited data with this plan and your first 10GB of data will be available at speeds up to 4G LTE, all data after that will only be used at 2G speeds – an unfortunate caveat, but unfortunately , in fact this is not uncommon when it comes to data plans in general. Of course, you will need 4G LTE capable devices and a 4G LTE SIM card to reach 4G LTE speeds.

Best Budget: TracFone $19.99 Basic phone 60 minutes plan

Provided by Walmart

Buy at Walmart

When your budget is tight but you need reliable access to the basics, for less than $20 you can access 60 minutes of talk, text and data on this 90-day plan from TracFone. This plan is also a great choice for those who don’t use their phone much but need to have one for emergencies, such as an elderly relative who lives alone.

What is TracFone? TracFone Wireless Inc. is a prepaid mobile virtual network operator in the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. With over 25 million subscribers, TracFone is a widely used service that has agreements with some of the largest wireless carriers in the US for service using their networks, including Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile US, Sprint Corporation, and US Cellular .

Available at Walmart. com, this plan can be used to top up your current TracFone service or activate a new TracFone service, and like the other plans on our list, the contract is nothing to worry about – just 60 minutes of talk, text, and data for 90 days for less than $20. It may not have many frills, but it’s predictability that you can’t beat.

Best of Verizon: $50 Verizon Wireless Card Prepaid Top Up Card

Provided by Walmart

If you think working without a contract means working with unnamed providers you’ve never heard of, think again. At Walmart.com, you can get contract-free service from many of America’s leading wireless carriers, including Verizon. This Verizon plan can renew monthly for $50 and includes unlimited US talks and texts plus 5 GB of high speed data plus 2 GB of bonus data (after using the high speed allowance, the rest of the data will only be transferred at 128 kbps so keep that in mind based on your needs).

In addition, if you’re careful about your data usage for one month and decide to keep your plan for the next month, Verizon will allow you to transfer your unused data with up-to-date billing. Need text internationally? This plan has you covered and allows you to send international messages to over 200 countries. In fact, plans like these are a great choice for those traveling to the US from other countries, as they often let you use the device you already have and keep you from racking up tons of extra money from international roaming charges or unexpected charges.

Best of AT&T: AT&T PREPAID Direct Load $65

Provided by Walmart

Buy at Walmart

Former GoPhone users, welcome to AT&T Prepaid Direct. AT&T’s prepaid plans give you the option to exit without a contract, and they compare very well to what you’ll find with prepaid dedicated carriers. When it comes to convenience, customers love these direct download cards in specific quantities, which can be used for any AT&T service available through their AT&T Prepaid Direct service.

If you need to top up, simply purchase one of these cards through Walmart.com to get an instant response and access your texts, conversations and data without even going to the store.

Do you have a big family? AT&T prepaid plans can be a good choice for you if you need multiple lines as they offer significant multi-line discounts that get better as you add more people. After the first line, you can get $5 from the second prepaid line, $10 from the third, and $15 from the fourth. In addition, AT&T allows you to customize the type of data plan each line uses so that you don’t overpay for data for one family member while another family member exceeds their allowance each month.

Best for Big Data Users: T-Mobile Monthly4G $50 Unlimited Talk, Text & Web

Data use often occurs where cell phone users, whether on contract or prepaid, struggle to make the plan work for them. When it comes to large providers, T-Mobile has some of the most flexible prepaid plans available for data usage. Choose from unlimited monthly plans, family plans, prepaid plans, and tablets and hotspots. These convenient prepaid cards from Walmart. com allow you to fund your monthly unlimited or pay-as-you-go plans without having to deal with annoying contracts or even go to the store.

If you love social media, games, music and video streaming, this T-Mobile plan might be one of the best for you as you can get unlimited data access, although the speed depends on how much you pay for the data component . every month. For example, for an unlimited plan, this $50 top-up will give you unlimited calls and texts nationwide and the first 100MB with speeds up to 4G.

Best for music lovers: Boost Mobile $35 Re-Boost Card

There is nothing better than music to get you through a long journey or a long day at work. If you love Pandora, Spotify, and YouTube, you need to check out Boost Mobile’s prepaid plans. Upgrade plans come with a number of benefits, including those that include unlimited data, conversations, and text, and include taxes and fees, so you won’t be surprised by unexpected debits from your account.

Refill printer cartridges near me: Printer Ink Refill : Target

Places That Refill Printer Ink Cartridges | Small Business

By Cameron Sherber

Cost-conscious business owners looking for an effective way to save a buck should consider reusing their workplace’s empty printer cartridges. Having your old cartridges refilled is considerably less costly than replacing the cartridges and buying new ones. It can save your business a considerable amount of money in the long run — particularly if you and your employees do a fair amount of printing. In addition, there is no shortage of places to have your empty cartridges refilled.

Office Max

  1. If you regularly purchase workplace essentials from office supply giant Office Max, you’ll be pleased to learn that the store offers a speedy ink refilling service. After taking your empty cartridges to the service counter of your local store, they will be inspected to determine whether they are still usable. If they are, the cartridges will be cleaned and purged of any dried-out residual ink before being refilled. The cost is typically about half of what you would spend on new cartridges.

  1. If you’re a fan of multitasking, consider taking advantage of the one-hour cartridge-refilling service at your local Walgreens. That way, your old cartridges can be refilled while you pick up a prescription, shop for grooming products or browse the new arrivals on the magazine rack. In much the same vein as Office Max, you will be required to take your cartridges to the store’s photo desk, where they will be inspected for chipping and other forms of wear and tear, then cleaned and refilled.

  1. Costco, one of the nation’s largest warehouse clubs, is another convenient option for multitaskers who want to refill cartridges. Simply drop off your empty printer cartridges at the store’s photo counter, where they will be inspected, cleaned and refilled. While you wait, you can do some grocery shopping, check out the latest fashions or get lost in the store’s electronics department. However, keep in mind that while Costco charges less for its refilling services than other options, the quality of its ink has been deemed mediocre by respected tech publication PCWorld.

Your Office

  1. If you can’t find a convenient place to refill your empty cartridges, you may want to look into purchasing an ink refill kit. These kits are available both online and over-the-counter and are affordable on virtually any budget. A typical cartridge-refilling kit includes a bottle of replacement ink, a syringe with which the ink is injected into the cartridge and a seal to prevent leakage. While it’s less convenient than having someone do it for you, using a refill kit can be a smart choice for business owners who are willing to trade their time for money.

Today, a color laser printer is not uncommon, even for home users. High-quality color printing has become more affordable, while the cost per printed page is not so high. But when buying a printer, you should always remember that in order for your printed pages to maintain high quality, you need to keep track of consumables and refill or change the cartridge on time. Everyone knows that the most budget option in this case is gas station . But you need to remember some points:

  • Any cartridge, both for a laser and a string printer, is a complex device; you can’t just take it, open the lid and fill it with toner or fill in ink.
  • As a rule, all modern cartridges are equipped with protective electronic “chips” that, when refilling, must be changed or reprogrammed using special equipment.
  • You can not make mistakes when refilling the cartridge by choosing the wrong or low-quality toner, this will lead to subsequent damage to the printer.

Our service center is professionally engaged in refilling of all models of cartridges from any manufacturer. The specialists of our service constantly take advanced training courses – this allows us to successfully work with the latest models of cartridges.

Customers of our service always remember the five golden rules for filling cartridges:

Rule One: Don’t let your cartridge run out of juice. Some users sometimes go so far as to pull out and shake the cartridge, after which they try to print a few more pages. At the same time, forgetting that this has a detrimental effect on both the cartridge and the printer as a whole. Don’t run out of toner in a cartridge, in this case “mean pays twice”.

Rule Two: Only refill cartridges from professionals. If you are not ready to spend your nerves and time, use the services of professional service centers. Organizations engaged only in the repair and filling of cartridges try to use only high-quality materials in their work and do it professionally.

Rule three: Any cartridge may require repair after several refills. Don’t skimp on this. To understand the need for repairs, the printed sheet will help you. Various kinds of defects will begin to appear on the image: stripes, dots, faint or uneven printing. All this indicates the need for repair and restoration work with the cartridge. Do not delay with this, because a malfunctioning cartridge can lead to various kinds of printer breakdowns, and repairing a printer is usually more expensive than a cartridge.

Rule Four: The toner used to refill laser printers is harmful to humans. The structure of the toner particles are very small and easily penetrate the respiratory tract. Therefore, cartridges are always refilled using protective equipment and special equipment. All attempts to do this at home can be unpredictable, both for the cartridge and for your health.

Rule five: In professional service centers, any cartridge after filling or repair work is tested and backed up by a guarantee. That is why you are always sure that the work is done with high quality, which is confirmed by the quality printing of the printer.

Our service center has been operating for more than twenty years in the market of services for refilling and repairing cartridges . We value your trust and are always open for cooperation. If you have any questions or doubts, our specialists will always consult you by phone.

6 Things To Know Before You Sign Up

Straight Talk Wireless is a prepaid cell phone service provider that’s owned by Tracfone. With plans beginning as low as $30 per month, you may be able to save money by making the switch.

I checked out the details of Straight Talk Wireless’s plans to help you decide whether or not you should try out this low-cost service provider. In this article, I’ll share six of the most important things to know before you switch.

Straight Talk Wireless is a solid competitor among low-cost cell phone plans. Owned by Tracfone Wireless, which was recently acquired by Verizon Wireless, Straight Talk is now under the same Verizon umbrella as Total by Verizon and Simple Mobile.

Straight Talk Wireless also offers a prepaid home internet service in addition to 10 different prepaid wireless phone plans ranging from 30 days to a full year. Plans cost as little as $30 per month, but that price is available only for flip phones (not smartphones). For smartphones, plans begin at $35.

Straight Talk runs on the Verizon Wireless network, which means you’ll likely have great coverage if Verizon’s service is strong in your area.

I checked out the details of Straight Talk Wireless’s plans, coverage and more. I’ve also compared Straight Talk Wireless to different available phone plans and service providers to help you determine whether or not you should make the switch.

Table of Contents:

  1. Plans and Pricing
  2. Network Coverage
  3. Data Speeds
  4. Activation Process
  5. Phone Selection
  6. Customer Service

Below, you’ll find more information about Straight Talk Wireless including what plans are available, how reliable the service is and whether or not you should consider it as your mobile carrier.

1. Plans and Pricing

As of December 2022, Straight Talk Wireless offers 10 different prepaid wireless phone plans. Each of these plans is completely prepaid, which means you’ll never have to worry about overage charges.

In 2021, Verizon Wireless bought Tracfone, which owns Straight Talk Wireless. That means if you sign up for a new plan with Straight Talk Wireless, you’ll be on the Verizon Wireless network.

Straight Talk offers monthly cell phone service plans as well as 90-day, 180-day and 365-day options. Prices for monthly plans range from $30 to $90 per month. The annual plan costs $495, which works out to be $41.25 per month. However, I recommend signing up for a 30-day plan first to make sure Straight Talk’s service will work for you. For example, the basic phone plan is for flip phones only and does not work with smartphones.

Keeping that in mind, I’ve listed information on each plan below including its regular price, autopay discounts, and what you’ll be getting for your money.

Plan Price Length Auto-Refill Perks Talk Text Data

While the table above shows all of the wireless phone plans and pricing available at Straight Talk Wireless’s website, know that there are other places you can shop for Straight Talk service. You may even be able to find a better price from a reseller like eBay or Walmart

2. Network Coverage

Previously, Straight Talk Wireless worked with all of the major cell phone service providers’ networks. However, because of the 2021 acquisition, if you sign up as a new customer, you’ll have access only to Verizon’s network.

To see if you’ll have coverage with Straight Talk Wireless on Verizon’s network, you can check the coverage map online.

Screenshot from Straight Talk Wireless

When you visit the Straight Talk Wireless website, you’ll be able to enter your ZIP code and choose your current provider. I recommend selecting Verizon regardless of who your current carrier is because that’s the service that Straight Talk provides access to now. In fact, you can also check Verizon Wireless’ coverage map online to get a more comprehensive understanding of coverage in your area.

3. Data Speeds

Data is one of the biggest concerns that people have when switching to a prepaid carrier. If you’re currently paying for an unlimited data plan from one of the major three cell phone service providers, you may be wondering if Straight Talk Wireless will be able to meet your data needs.

Straight Talk Wireless does not offer unlimited high-speed data with any phone plan. Instead, its unlimited plans include a set amount of high-speed data before deprioritization kicks in. At that point, speeds will be throttled to as low as 2G speeds.

Most Straight Talk plans come with 10-20GB of high-speed, prioritized data before slower speeds. However, even after you’ve hit your monthly high-speed data allotment, you will still technically have unlimited data until the end of your prepaid plan cycle.

Here’s what Straight Talk Wireless’s website says about data speeds and prioritization:

Where the network is lightly loaded, a Straight Talk customer will notice little, if any effect from having lower priority. This will be the case in the vast majority of times and locations.

At times and at locations where the network is heavily loaded in relation to available capacity, however, a Straight Talk customer will experience increased latency during a data session, particiularly if the customer is engaged in a data-intensive activity.

Straight Talk’s website also says that, when network loading decreases or if a customer moves to a location that is less heavily loaded in relation to available capacity, the latency associated with a customer’s data connection (data speeds) will improve. Of course, actual availability, coverage and speeds will vary.

You can check out Straight Talk Wireless’s full terms and conditions online. Additionally, you can check out the full selection of plans on the Straight Talk Wireless website.

4. Activation Process

If you decide to make the switch to Straight Talk Wireless, the first thing you’ll need is a compatible phone and SIM card. To make sure your phone is compatible, it needs to be unlocked. If it is, you can choose “Keep your own phone” when you activate your service. You may also choose to shop for a new phone through Straight Talk Wireless or buy an unlocked phone online.

Screenshot from Straight Talk Wireless

After that, you can choose whether you want to keep your existing phone number or get a new one. Then, you can enter your existing number (if you want to keep your number) or your ZIP code.

Next, you’ll choose which type of SIM you want: a physical SIM card or an eSIM. You can order a physical SIM card online for $0.99 from Straight Talk Wireless. Once you add the SIM card to your shopping cart, you’ll be able to follow the prompts on the screen to select a plan, enroll in auto-refill (optional) and enter your payment and shipping information to check out.

In addition to ordering one online, you can also purchase a Straight Talk Wireless SIM card and prepaid plan at a variety of retailers including Walmart.

To learn more about how to activate your phone with Straight Talk Wireless, check out the FAQ page online.

5. Phone Selection

Most people who switch to Straight Talk Wireless will want to keep their existing phones. This is one of the best ways to save money when switching to any new cell phone service provider. If you have an unlocked device, you can check your phone’s compatibility here.

If you are looking to buy a new phone, know that Straight Talk Wireless offers a large selection. In December 2022, Straight Talk Wireless had 96 phones available online including smartphones and basic phones.

Screenshot from Straight Talk Wireless

You won’t find the newest smartphones available at Straight Talk Wireless; however, you will find options beginning as low as $4.99! For that price, you can get a reconditioned Alcatel MyFlip phone.

A few top sellers include the iPhone SE 2nd Generation for $149.99, the Samsung Galaxy A13 5G for $99. 99 and the Samsung Galaxy A03s for $49.99. Compared to other budget Android phones, these are great prices!

You can check out the full selection of phones available from Straight Talk Wireless online. Before you purchase a phone from Straight Talk, be sure to compare prices. Check out this article on the best places to buy unlocked phones to find the best deals.

6. Customer Service

There are two ways that you can contact a representative at Straight Talk Wireless.

To start an online chat, click the “Chat With Us” button on the contact page or click the small chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of Straight Talk’s website on your computer, tablet or smartphone. Online chat is available every day from 8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. ET.

If you’d rather speak with a representative over the phone, you can call Straight Talk Wireless at 1-877-430-2355 any day between 8 a. m. and 11:45 p.m. ET.

I reached out to Straight Talk Wireless via online chat and over the phone to see how long I’d have to wait. Online, I was connected to a representative instantly. Over the phone, I was connected to a representative after about a minute.

If you’re an existing Straight Talk Wireless customer, you can also text 611611 to check your balance, get refills and more.

For more on how to contact Straight Talk Wireless, visit the website.

Final Thoughts

If you’re thinking about switching to Straight Talk Wireless, I recommend checking out the coverage in your area first. You can do this by visiting the Straight Talk Wireless website and entering your ZIP code to see the coverage map. You can also visit Verizon Wireless’s website and follow the same steps to get a more comprehensive overview of the service in your area.

Straight Talk runs on Verizon’s network, so if Verizon has a strong signal in your area, then Straight Talk Wireless could be a great way to get reliable service without having to pay for a Verizon postpaid plan.  However, other prepaid carriers on Verizon’s network may offer better deals. For example, Visible offers unlimited data on Verizon Wireless’ network for $30 per month.

If you think you want to switch to Straight Talk, I recommend trying out a 30-day plan first. Then, if the service works for you, you may consider a 90-day, 180-day or 365-day plan. That will give you time to test out the service in your area, and if there are any issues, you aren’t out the full price of a plan with a longer service period.

You can buy a SIM card online or in-store at many popular retailers. If you do decide to make the switch, be sure to check out this guide that we put together to take you step-by-step through the process.

The quality of my phone use and service plan is awesome for the monthly rate. I always have great experiences when talking with a costumer service provider with straight talk always helpful and answer my questions and concerns they actually get the job done in timely manner. I recommend them to my family, friends, and. Coworkers. Thank you for being a great company provider for my phone services. I really appreciate everything and each customer representative i have ever spoken with you help in a timely manner and got the job done. This is very happy customer and will not trade out my service with another company a very loyal customer here for sure and pleased with all and not to mention the rewards have in placed just used mine to pay for monthly service bill who gives you free phone service for the month ? My phone service pays for it self that’s why I do appreciate straight talk so much and helping where it counts the most in my money back to me can see and use it when needed no questions asked or limit very nice to see my rewards pay off and pay a month service plan. Thank you vmckeel

Have had straight talk for years hardly any issues until..

I don’t normally leave reviews but I use to never have any issues ever except a few things and even when that happened they were able to be fixed now ig whatever reason things on this app won’t even log me in I’ve changed passwords multiple times cause I’d put the right password in each time and still tell me it’s invalid or tell me it’s on auto refill and purchased a air time card on here everythin all ready to be put in motion when my phone ran out it was suppose to automatically do so but money is gone now and card is missing and ever since day one of downloading this app to make my life easier instead of goin to Walmart payin like 50 some odd bucks to get a card scratch of and put it in manually but no me trying to make things easier for myself and my wallet and paychecks but nope at least I never had a issue goin to the store and buying what I needed but since I’ve lost money from downloading this app and got money taken but it don’t got the card anymore let alone try to make sure it wouldnt shut off but nope no refund let alone nodda so another thing gonna have to write this and leave a 3 star use to be 5 then now it’s down to 3 unfortunately it is what it is I suppose

Not worth it at all!

5 years ago I joined straight talk. Everything started great. I had connection everywhere. I had no issues. A year or two later everything went straight down hill. Not even down hill. It took a nose dive. When I went to refill my 30 days. Days on my refill would be missing. After a certain amount of time they are supposed to be able to unlock your sim allowing you to do what ever with the phone or join a new provider with the phone you paid full price upfront for. It was impossible to get ahold of some one to speak for for eight months! No one answers the phone and you’re always 90+ chat queue. Meaning 90 people are ahead of you to TRY to get ahold of some one. They flat out refused to unlock my sin after I had the phone for 5 years. I hadn’t even used a day of my very last refill and was refused a refund. That day I had already decided to switch providers. I do not regret switching. Straight talk is a complete joke. Start great, continue great. Don’t screw your customers. With the understanding that people where out for COVID for a while. This whole trying to get ahold of some one took place after everyone went back to work a places where 100% open. The “high call volume” at this point is an excuse. Either that or straight talk has some serious issues and everyone is trying to get it fixed. Personally I would save your time and money and pick a different provider. Like I said I had used the for 5 YEARS. Please for your sake and sanity avoid!!

I was struck by the variety of topics discussed. look, the peculiarity of a direct conversation is contained in a deep knowledge of the situation, specificity and clarity.I am glad for the remote Mongun-Taiginsky kozhuun, where new medical equipment will soon appear. I am very impressed that Vladislav Tovarishtayovich pays special attention to the quality of new homes for orphans. One of the main issues that worries our population is the issue of the cost of coal. Here the Acting Head gave a clear answer – he will work to reduce the price for as long as it takes.0005 Of course, it was not possible to answer all the questions received in a limited time, but the Acting Head instructed to give an answer to each applicant. Dc power supply 12v: 12 Volt Power Supply | Modular Power Supply | Circuit Specialists

A Step By Step Guide

The 12V DC power supply is among the leading power supplies in today’s technological world. Mainly because of its affordability, reliability, and ease of use.

Do you want to know what the 12V DC power supply is, how it works, its applications, and how you can make one at home?

In this article, you will find answers to all of the above questions, and we even offer you differences between the AC and DC.

What is a 12V DC power supply?

A power supply

A 12VDC power supply is a device that supplies electrical energy to a load. In other words, a power supply’s primary purpose is converting electric current from the source into the required voltage, frequency, and current, which powers the load.

The 12V DC power supplies fall into two categories, namely

  • 12V regulated power supplies
  • 12V unregulated power supplies

In addition, the 12V regulated power supply has three subgroups:

  • Switching regulator AC to DC
  • Linear regulator AC to DC
  • Switching regulator DC to DC

Let us have a closer look at each.

Switching regulated AC to DC

Switching regulated 12VDC power supplies are also known as switched-mode power supplies or SMPS power supplies.

These power supplies work by regulating the output voltage with a high-frequency switching process utilizing feedback with pulse width modulation.

Moreover, switching regulated power supplies run substantial EMI filtering to reduce the load and line’s regular and differential noise.

A regulated power supply

Source: Wikipedia

For this 12V power supply, galvanic isolation is critical as it affords users input to output then output to ground insulation. Doing so ensures good versatility.

Linear regulator AC to DC

A linear regulated 12VDC power supply functions by regulating output with the help of a dissipative modulating circuit for effective performance.

As a result, these supplies are stable, contain low ripple, and do not switch frequencies to make EMI.

Likewise, the switching regulated AC to DC also employs galvanic isolation and is available in AC to DC outputs (wide or single).

Unregulated 12VDC power supplies

These are basic power supplies with an unregulated 12VDC output and an AC input.

Consequently, the output voltage in an unregulated power supply varies depending on the load and input voltage. Most importantly, unregulated power supplies are affordable and highly reliable.

How do You Make a 12v DC Power Supply?

 Materials you will require

  • Vero board
  • LM7812 regulator
  • 1uF capacitor
  • Heat sink
  • Jumper wires
  • 100nF capacitors (2)
  • 1000uF to 4700uF capacitor
  • 1N4001 diodes (4)
  • Transformer 14V- 35V
  • Soldering iron
  • Wire strippers
  • Wire cutters

Circuit diagram

Some points to note:

Firstly, to make a 5-volt power supply, you can use an LM7805 regulator instead of the LM7812.

Secondly, you will need a heat sink to realize 1 amp from this power supply.

Heat sinks

Source: Wikipedia

The heat sink protects the device against high temperatures that may lead to burnout.

However, if your target is less than 500mA, you can work without a heat sink.

Start building

Once you have assembled all the required materials, you can build your 12V DC power supply.

While building, remember to place the electric components precisely as indicated by the circuit diagram.

Above all, make strong solder joints with no solder bridges, or the power supply will be faulty.

After making the power supply comes the most critical part of testing it. By checking it using a multimeter, you will see if there are any solder bridges.

Assuming you find no issues, you can now use the power supply as you deem fit.

12v AC vs. 12v DC: What is the Difference Between AC and DC?

Firstly, let us define each type of currency.

Alternating Current (AC)

Alternating current, known mainly by the masses as AC, is a type of current or voltage scale that has varying size and direction after some time.

Here is an alternating current waveform diagram

AC/Alternating Current waveform

Direct Current (DC)

Direct current, also famously known as DC or constant current, is a current whose magnitude and direction remain constant.

Some of the DC sources include dry batteries or lead-acid batteries.

DC/Direct Current waveform

We compared 12V AC power to 12V DC power regarding safety, use, measurement, and loss to find the difference between AC and DC.

DC works well for long-distance or immense capacity transmission, and as a result, HVDC transmission has grown in popularity.

On the other hand, alternating current contains inductance parameters hence a substantial loss during extensive transmissions.

Direct current is stable and does not make much noise; therefore, it can work well in electrical items like televisions and radios.

An alternating current must pass through a switching power supply and into DC to function on electronic products.

Generally, the 12VDC is more secure compared to 12V AC. For instance, the human body has lower resistance when exposed to 12V AC power than 12VDC power.

Nevertheless, the degree of damage caused by electrical shock to humans largely depends on the duration of the energization.

12V AC and 12V DC have varying peak voltages due to their respective voltage patterns.

Can I use 12V AC Instead of 12V DC?

All AC or DC power adapters accept a specific AC input from the power source, converting it to a required DC output.

The DC output mainly released depends on the type of device, whether it’s a speaker, phone charger, or laptop charger.

Therefore, when you use a 12V AC power adapter yet the device requires a 12V DC power adapter, then the device might encounter issues like

  • Incorrect polarity
  • Low voltage or high voltage

Experts recommend that you only use the required power adapters with the required voltages to avoid the above-stated problems.
